Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys and Girls hope and expect to be good this year
Team: Logan View/Scribner-Snyder
Mascot: Raiders
Colors: Blue and Red
Class: C-1
Conference: East Husker
Head Coach: Sean Forbes (3rd season) (19-27 career record)
2015-2016 record: 15-10 (Lost to Bishop Neumann in District Final)
Returning Starters: 2
Overview:
It's year two of the co-op between Logan View and Scribner-Snyder, and the Raider boys look to be a force once again this year.
LV/SS returns two starters in Jacob Polk (Jr 6’0 guard 2 year starter) and Ben Moxness (Jr 6’6 forward 2 year starter).
Both players had very good sophomore campaigns if I remember correctly, especially Moxness.
The other players who figure to round out the starting lineup for the Raiders are Nathan Taylor (Jr, 6’0 guard), Alex Hagerbaumer (Jr. 6’3 forward), Andrew Poppe (Sr 6’2 forward, and/or Alex Von Seggern (Jr 6’4 forward).
Other key contributors for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder this year figure to be Joel Moeller (6'0, Jr), Brandon Hagerbaumer (5'10, Jr), Clay Kruger (6'1, So), Austin Peters (6'0 So), Nathan Wacker (6'0, So), Logan Rebbe (6'0, Jr), and Michael Luther (6'1, So).
The Raiders should have plenty of depth this year, and that should really help LV/SS during the grind of the long season.
Head Coach Sean Forbes echoes these thoughts.
"We are looking to build on the success of making a district final and the winning record from last season. We have some big holes to fill in what we lost due to graduation. Jacob Polk and Ben Moxness are two year starters and we will have some great competition for the other three starting positions. Our only senior Andrew Poppe along with juniors Nathan Taylor, Alex Von Seggern, Joel Moeller, Brandon Hagerbaumer, and Alex Hagerbaumer are looking to claim those spots. We also have sophomores Clay Kruger, Austin Peters, Michael Luther, and Nathan Wacker that are working hard to get in the varsity rotation. We are looking forward to practice and seeing who performs the best. With all of these players and others battling in practice everyday we believe we will develop some great depth in the program."
Forbes says there are some big shoes to fill with the loss of some key players though.
"We lost 6 seniors that will all be missed. Darnell Sims, Hunter Schlueter, Michael Broussard, Conner Gralheer, and Colin Von Seggern will be all be missed with David Dunklau who was injured last season."
The Raiders certainly appear to have lost quite a bit of talent, but it appears there are a lot of up and coming players as well.
I think this year has a chance to be an even better year than last year was for LV/SS.
It's year two of these schools co-oping, and I expect big things from the Raiders this season.
Season Outlook:
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys are hoping last year's success leads to even more success this season.
"We hope to build on what we started last season. We look to be competitive and have a successful season." Forbes said.
The Raiders were sort of up and down last season in terms of scoring.
Forbes says shooting should be a team strength this year.
"We should be really good shooters this season."
Forbes adds his players are well rounded.
"I am really looking forward to this season. Our players are all great students and hardworking young men. They are doing everything in their power to be successful. All 8 of our juniors and our 1 senior are National Honor Society members."
That's a very good thing. It appears these players are very active within their respective schools, and I think that's only going to help LV/SS this season.
What makes the Raiders tough is the 1-3-1 defense they run.
If Logan View/Scribner-Snyder can be consistent scoring the ball, I think they can compete with and beat anyone on their schedule.
Reaching a District Final last year carries a lot of weight on this year's team, in my opinion.
Expectations have to be high, and that's what you want as a player and a coach. You have to want and expect to be good.
The schedule appears to be pretty favorable for the Raiders this season.
LV/SS has tough games against Wahoo, Twin River, North Bend Central, Stanton, and Yutan, otherwise everyone else on the regular season schedule, with the exception of Cedar Bluffs, who is D-1, had a losing record last year.
I think something like a 20-5 record is very possible for this team.
The Raiders have Winnebago in their sub-district, but if LV/SS can't knock off the Indians, perhaps they can do well enough in the regular season to earn a wildcard into the state tournament. We will see.
The Raiders open up the season at home on December 1st against Oakland-Craig.

Head Coach: Nick Hegge (6th season) (10-100 career record)
2015-2016 record: 4-19 (Lost to Arlington in Sub-Districts)
Returning Starters: 4
Overview:
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls Basketball team looks to be much improved over last year, when the Raiders went 4-19.
Here are the returning letterwinners for LV/SS:
*G Kaylee Boyle 5’7 Jr. 8.3 5.1 All State HM

*G Sierra Beacom 5’2 Jr. 3.7 2.3

F Ashley Uhing 5’6 So 1.1 3.1
C Breanna Smith 5’8 Jr. 0.9 1.9
The girls with stars by their names are returning starters.
4 returning starters for the Raiders...that's a big deal.
I think LV/SS has a chance to be much improved over last year.
Paige Heinke and Grayce McCormick are big losses from last year for the Raiders, according to Head Coach Nick Hegge, but Morgan Morgan is a 5’7 junior who is returning after missing last season due to an injury.
Hegge says the team is looking to have success this season.
"We have a veteran team with a lot of returners from last season. We are looking to continue to improve as a program and become more competitive within our conference. Our junior class has a lot of varsity experience and we will look for them to carry us this season."
Hegge adds the team is looking to be better than last year, especially in conference play.
"We are hoping to build off the positive program strides that we made last year and we are hoping to become more competitive within our conference, which we think is one of the best girls basketball conferences in the state."
I think the Raiders have a chance to be an improved team this year. I know 4 wins doesn't seem like a lot, but I felt like a lot of strides were made in year one of this co-op.
I think year two can be even better, and has the potential to be solid for LV/SS.
Season Outlook:
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder is no doubt hoping that more wins come their way this season.
Hegge says there's a lot of potential in this team.
"I am really looking forward to seeing the growth of this team. We return a number of the same players from last season and we still only have one returning senior. This team will have played a lot of basketball together and I look forward to seeing what we can do if we stay committed."
The Raiders have a lot of winnable games on the schedule, but some tough contests as well.
The tough contests figure to be against Twin River, Wayne, Malcolm, Cedar Bluffs, North Bend Central, Stanton, Wisner-Pilger, West Point-Beemer, Wahoo, Oakland-Craig, Howells-Dodge, and BRLD.
I think LV/SS has a realistic chance of doubling their win total from last year though.
I think the Raiders have a shot to win 8 games, and perhaps more depending on if they can spring any upsets or not.
I'm basing things solely on games that appear to be wins and games that appear like they will be losses for LV/SS.
The big thing for the Raiders will be scoring without a doubt.
LV/SS has to put the ball in the hole more this year than they did last year if they want to be more successful.
Hegge says there was improvement on both sides of the ball this past offseason.
"We had a solid offseason. We could see a comfort level between the girls and with what we are trying to do offensively and defensively. "
I think the big thing for the Raiders is being consistent on offense and defense.
LV/SS has to be committed to working for good shots and good looks offensively, and connecting from the line, while also hustling back on defense and contesting shots.
The Raiders have to give an all out effort this season and perform at their best all season long.
LV/SS has Tekamah-Herman, Winnebago, Arlington, and Fort Calhoun in their sub-district.
I would say Fort Calhoun is probably the favorite to win the sub-district, but I think the Raiders have a shot to be competitive against anyone they play in the postseason.
I look for LV/SS to compete better and win more games this year than they did last year.
I think the scores will be a lot closer this year than they were last year.
I really believe improvement will be shown and made from last year to this year.
The Raiders open up the season at home on December 1st against Oakland-Craig.
