Clarkson/Leigh Boys fall to Oakland-Craig in Sub-District Final; Girls lose to Bridgeport in Sub-State Final

The Clarkson/Leigh Boys fell 53-45 at Oakland-Craig in the C2-3 Sub-District Final Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

Clarkson/Leigh jumped out to a 4-0 lead, before the Knights scored seven points in a row, and took a 13-9 lead over the Patriots after the first quarter.

Oakland-Craig outscored the Patriots 11-6 in the second quarter, and held a 24-15 advantage at halftime.

Both teams were evenly matched in the third quarter, each scoring 10 points, and the Knights led 34-25 after three periods.

Oakland-Craig led by double digits multiple times in the fourth quarter. Clarkson/Leigh would often cut the score to within single digits, with the Knights still being able to keep the Patriots at arm’s length.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Oakland-Craig 20-19 in the fourth quarter, but the Knights were able to achieve the win..

Eli Hays had 15 points to lead Clarkson/Leigh, with Lance Paprocki adding 10. Carter Hanel also contributed 7 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shot for the Patriots while Kyle Kasik notched 7 points.

Solid effort from the Patriots, they just came up a little short.

Clarkson/Leigh ends their season at 13-10 overall.

Hays, Kasik, and Hanel each had a 9 points per game average to lead the Patriots this season.

Hanel was the team's leading rebounder with 250 on the season while Trevor Zulkoski had 102.

The Patriots say goodbye to Paprocki, Zulkoski, and Tommy McEvoy.

These three Seniors meant a lot to the team over the last four years and will be missed without a doubt.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be excited about the future though as they return quite a bit next year.

Back for the Patriots is the likes of Jarred Novotny, Hays, Kasik, Mason Whitmore, Hanel, Kanyon Held, Logan Schroeder, and Mitch Beeson.

Clarkson/Leigh really made some nice improvements this past season and did a lot of nice things.

I look for the Patriots to make even more strides and improvements this offseason, and comeback even stronger next year.

Clarkson/Leigh returns a lot of Seniors next year and will have quite a few Seniors on the team so I look for the Patriots to make a run.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls lost 52-44 to Bridgeport in the C2-5 Sub-State Final at Lexington Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Patriots went up 12-9 after one only to see the Bulldogs outscore Clarkson/Leigh 13-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-18 lead into the locker room.

Bridgeport won the 3rd quarter 10-9 to go up 32-27 at the end of three.

The Bulldogs won the 4th quarter 20-17.

Alissa Kasik had 10 points while Chloe Hanel notched 9. Kennedy Settje and Cassidy Hoffman notched 7 apiece.

Tough way for the Patriots to go out. I thought Clarkson/Leigh would return to State for a 2nd straight season.

The Patriots end the year at 20-3.

Hanel led the team in scoring at 12 points per game.

Clarkson/Leigh says goodbye to Settje, Gracelyn Baumert, Bailey Lemburg, Emily Loseke, Hoffman, Kelsey Moore, and Kayden Schumacher.

This was such a talented Senior Class and great group of Girls who will be sorely missed without a doubt.

I'm sure they're disappointed things didn't end down at the State Tournament in Lincoln, but there is still plenty to be proud of if you are the Patriots.

Key returners for next year include Hanel, Makenna Held, Faith Indra, and Korbee Wendt.

Clarkson/Leigh figures to be young next year, but the Patriots will gain a lot of experience in the offseason and the more they play during the season next year as well.

It's hard saying what the future holds for Clarkson/Leigh exactly, but the Patriots have established themselves as a great program and power, and I look for that to only continue in the future.

With that said, Clarkson/Leigh has to have a really good offseason to be successful next year.
