West Point-Beemer Boys and Girls off to 2-1 starts

The West Point-Beemer Boys Basketball Team is 2-1 on the season so far, beating Arlington 59-51 at home Thursday night, losing 61-40 at Omaha Roncalli on Saturday, and downing Stanton 48-24 at home Tuesday night.

West Point-Beemer led the Eagles 30-24 at halftime, but Arlington made five three pointers and scored 21 points to take a 45-44 lead into the fourth quarter. The Cadets then outscored the Eagles 15-6 in the fourth to win.

Chase Streeter led five West Point-Beemer players in double digits with 13 points, to go along with 12 from Cole Hughes and 10 each from Ben Vander Griend, Blake Anderson, and Austin Streeter. Vander Griend added 7 rebounds.

The Crimson Pride went up 15-4 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 20-19 to take a 35-23 lead into the locker room.

Omaha Roncalli outscored the Cadets 17-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 52-32 at the end of three.

The Crimson Pride won the 4th quarter 9-8.

Chase Streeter and Vander Griend added 9 points apiece while Hughes totaled 7. Austin Streeter added 7 rebounds.

The Cadets and Mustangs were tied at 8 at the end of one. West Point-Beemer won the 2nd quarter 15-6 to go ahead 23-14 at halftime.

The Cadets outscored Stanton 14-4 in the 3rd quarter to lead 37-18 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer notched 11 points in the 4th quarter compared to 6 for the Mustangs.

Austin Streeter had 13 points while Vander Griend registered 11.

Solid start to the season for the Cadets. The Roncalli game was tough, but otherwise it appears West Point-Beemer is playing pretty good ball.

The Cadets (2-1) host North Bend Central (2-0) Thursday night.

The Tigers won 72-41 at home over Schuyler Tuesday night.

North Bend Central is very good again this year, and I think the Tigers might be more athletic and faster than West Point-Beemer.

The Cadets probably have more size, but I'm thinking North Bend Central might be a little quicker based on what I saw last year.

West Point-Beemer has to slow things down and play at a half court pace, and force the Tigers to play slower than they want to if they want to win.

The Cadets can't let North Bend Central get out and run and score points in transition.

West Point-Beemer has to be strong with the basketball at the basket, and must put two hands on the ball when rebounding it.

Boxing out and getting good post position down low will be a big deal in this game I feel.

The Cadets have to pound the ball inside and get the Tigers in foul trouble.

West Point-Beemer also has to be confident and knock down the open jumper when the opportunity presents itself.

Getting to and converting at the free throw line will be big for this team too, in my opinion.

The Cadets need to execute well in all facets of the game to come away with the win.

North Bend Central is the real deal, in my opinion, and it certainly won't be easy to knock off the Tigers even though the game is in West Point.

The Cadets are a senior laden team, and these are the types of games West Point-Beemer needs to win if they want to be viewed as a legit contender in Conference and in the postseason.

This will be the Tigers' first real test of the season so that should be to the Cadets' advantage.

I think West Point-Beemer can definitely win if they slow the pace and not allow this game to get into a track meet.

The Cadets have to get off to a strong start, and just grind things out until the very end.

West Point-Beemer is solid on offense and defense, and I look for the Cadets to play well on both ends of the floor.

The West Point-Beemer Girls Basketball Team is also 2-1 to start the season as the Cadets defeated Arlington 45-35 at home Thursday night, won 41-30 at Omaha Roncalli on Saturday, and then lost 33-30 at home to Stanton Tuesday night.

West Point-Beemer overcame a slow start and a 19-16 halftime deficit to beat Arlington. The Cadets made 17 free throws in the fourth quarter to help close out the game.

Andrea Hoffman led the Cadets with seven points, including a pair of three pointers.

West Point-Beemer jumped on the Crimson Pride 10-4 at the end of one. The Cadets outscored Omaha Roncalli 17-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-14 lead into the locker room.

The Crimson Pride outscored West Point-Beemer 9-4 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 31-23 game at the end of three.

The Cadets won the 4th quarter 10-7.

Brittney Hinkel had 17 points and 12 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Sidney Swanson chipped in 12 points while Katie Pilakowski notched 12 rebounds.

West Point-Beemer doubled up the Mustangs 8-4 in the 1st quarter. Stanton doubled up the Cadets 14-7 in the 2nd quarter to take an 18-15 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer won the 3rd quarter 8-6 to make it a 24-23 game at the end of three.

The Mustangs outscored the Cadets 9-7 in the 4th quarter, and won the game in the final seconds as Megan Groth passed the ball inside instead of shooting a 3 at the buzzer like she should of.

Hinkel led the way with 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Tough loss to take against Stanton, but the first two games of the season were very promising for West Point-Beemer.

The Cadets (2-1) host North Bend Central (2-0) Thursday night.

The Tigers knocked off Schuyler 60-14 at home Tuesday night.

North Bend Central is off to a strong start, and like West Point-Beemer, is a very strong defensive team.

Both teams struggle to score, and this should be a very low scoring, defensive battle.

The Tigers may have more height and size with Brooke Fredrickson, Kristin Lux, and others, but the Cadets may be a little quicker.

Size and experience and overall athleticism benefits North Bend Central I feel, but this is a game the Cadets can definitely win.

West Point-Beemer just has to be better on offense, and knock down perimeter jump shots when given the opportunity.

I feel the perimeter game will be big for the Cadets. Scoring down low might be tough so West Point-Beemer has to be confident and step up and knock down some perimeter shots.

The Cadets also have to do a good job of playing post defense and playing straight up without fouling.

West Point-Beemer also can't be afraid to drive and take it inside, and try and get the Tigers' post players in foul trouble.

The Cadets have to be flat out upset that they lost to the Mustangs, and have to take it to North Bend Central for 4 quarters.

All that shooting and work West Point-Beemer did in the offseason needs to show up in games, and knocking down more shots is going to be very important for the Cadets in this game and down the line without a doubt.

West Point-Beemer has to start working on scoring in the 50's and 60's or more, and must continue to play the great defense they have.

If the Cadets can get to 50 or more in this game I think West Point-Beemer has a great chance to win it.

Neither team has been particularly great on offense this year as the Tigers scored just 29 against Twin River so it will be interesting to see what happens.

This is a big one for West Point-Beemer with Howells-Dodge and Fremont Bergan coming up the next two games.

Winnebago Boys and Girls beat Homer and Walthill

The Winnebago Boys Basketball Team downed Homer 90-41 at home Thursday night, and Walthill 81-70 on the road Friday night.

The Blujays led the Indians 21-16 at the end of one. Winnebago won the 2nd quarter 25-18 to take a 41-39 lead into the locker room.

The Indians outscored Walthill 26-12 in the 3rd quarter to go up 67-51 at the end of three.

The Blujays notched 19 points in the 4th quarter compared to 14 for Winnebago.

I thought the Indians played good ball this past weekend. Not bad for the first week of the season.

Winnebago (2-0) takes on Omaha Nation (1-1) on the road Thursday night.

The Chiefs won 92-44 at home over Santee Friday night.

I think Omaha Nation will challenge and compete with the Indians, but I look for Winnebago to win.

I think the Indians will play well offensively, and do enough defensively to come out on top.

The Chiefs played BRLD tough, losing 57-53, and I think this game could mirror that in a way, although I look for Winnebago to win by more than 4.

The Indians have to come ready to play though.

Winnebago has to start and finish better than they did against Walthill.

The middle quarters were good for the Indians against the Blujays, but the Indians have to dominate for 4 quarters if possible, much like they did against the Knights.

Winnebago can definitely score, now it's just a matter of playing shutdown D.

The Indians have to get back to playing the type of defense they played against Homer.

Winnebago has to play well on both ends of the floor to come away with a big win in this one.

The Indians don't just want to win, they want to win big.

Walthill is a rival, and I can certainly understand that game being close, but even though Omaha Nation is probably somewhat of a rival, Winnebago should be able to blow them out.

I look for D'Von LaPointe, Lance Denney, Maurice Scott, Manape Cleveland, and others to have big games for the Indians.

I look for Winnebago to score somewhere in the 80's or 90's, and possibly hold the Chiefs in the 60's, maybe even the 50's.

The Indians should improve to 3-0.

The Winnebago Girls Basketball Team won 60-44 at home over Homer Thursday night before downing Walthill 77-64 on the road Friday night.

The Indians led the Knights 15-9 after one, and outscored Homer 18-13 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-22 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 11 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 44-33 at the end of three in favor of Winnebago.

The Indians won the 4th quarter 16-11.

Charli Earth led the way with 22 points while Kae Earth and Jayla Price totaled 11 and 9, respectively.

The Indians jumped out to an 18-12 lead at the end of one against the Blujays. Walthill won the 2nd quarter 23-20 to make it a 38-35 game at halftime.

Winnebago won the 3rd quarter 15-14 to go up 53-49 at the end of three.

The Indians outscored the Blujays 24-15 in the 4th quarter.

Charli Earth had 26 points while Kae Earth totaled 18. Jayla Price chipped in 15 while Isabel Earth registered 11.

Great start to the season for Winnebago. I think the Earths and Price have made a big difference for this team so far.

The Indians (2-0) face arguably their toughest test of the season Thursday night though when they take on Omaha Nation (2-0) on the road.

The Chiefs won 77-29 at home over Santee Friday night and 66-57 at BRLD Thursday night.

Omaha Nation appears to be a solid team, and this should be a great game.

The Earths and Price need to have big games for the Indians.

Winnebago has to play well on both ends of the floor, and play the type of basketball they have so far this season.

The Indians could win as long as they play as well as they did in the first two weeks of the season.

This should be a great game between two solid teams.

Both teams have been impressive in the early season, and it's hard saying how the game is going to go.

I think the Chiefs being at home and having already beaten a good team in BRLD gives them the advantage, but by no means does that mean Omaha Nation is going to win.

Winnebago has to come out cool, calm, collected, and confident.

At the same time, the Indians have to play with fire, intensity, pride, passion, mental and physical toughness, tenacity, and grit.

Winnebago is as good as they have been in a while, and their players have to enjoy and embrace this success.

The Indians have to keep working hard and playing well together, and continue to improve everyday.

It's important for Winnebago to have good practices leading up to the game.

The Indians have to get pumped, jacked, fired, amped, and psyched up before this one tips off.

Wisner-Pilger Boys and Girls beat Emerson-Hubbard, lose to Lutheran High Northeast in Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic

The Wisner-Pilger Boys Basketball Team won 70-34 at home over Emerson-Hubbard at the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic Friday night before losing the championship game 63-53 to Lutheran High Northeast in Emerson on Saturday.

The Gators led the Pirates 15-4 after one, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 18-7 in the 2nd quarter to go up 33-11 at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 19-13 to go up 52-24 at the end of three.

The Gators put up 18 points in the fourth quarter and held the Pirates to 10.

Wisner-Pilger led the Eagles 32-30 at halftime. LHNE won the 3rd quarter 14-8 to take a 44-40 lead at the end of three. The Eagles put up 19 points in the 4th quarter compared to 13 for the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger played great against Emerson-Hubbard I thought and played well against LHNE in the 1st half, but didn't quite have enough in the tank in the 2nd half.

The Gators (1-1) travel to Tekamah-Herman (0-2) Friday night.

The Tigers lost 60-21 at Pender Friday night.

This should be an easy win for Wisner-Pilger, much like the Emerson-Hubbard game.

This is one of those games where the Gators should be able to get out to a big lead and play reserves in the 2nd half.

Wisner-Pilger has to come out and play good, sharp basketball, and must take it to Tekamah-Herman for 4 quarters.

The starters have to come out and assert themselves nicely, and build a big lead to give the reserves some action.

I would say a half of basketball might be enough work for the starters, but they need a little more work with this being the only game of the week and Oakland-Craig and Wayne coming up next week.

I look for the Gators to take their frustrations of losing to the Eagles out on the Tigers Friday night.

I look for Wisner-Pilger to win big and handily.

I would be awfully surprised if this game isn't a running clock at some point in the 2nd half.

Tekamah-Herman has a lot of kids out compared to last year and is an and coming team I would say, but the Tigers are still very young and trying to find their way.

It's important for the Gators to be sharp with this being their only game this week and two tough games coming up next week.

Wisner-Pilger needs to play at an extremely high level and shake out any cobwebs they may have incurred on Saturday.

The Gators have to come out flat out angry and upset given what happened against LHNE, and have to come out and play to their full potential against the Tigers.

The Wisner-Girls Basketball Team lost 68-65 at home to Lutheran High Northeast in the Northeast Nebraska Tournament Thursday night before winning 49-27 over Emerson-Hubbard in the consolation game at Emerson-Hubbard on Saturday.

The Gators quadrupled up the Pirates 12-3 after one, and tripled up Emerson-Hubbard 15-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-8 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger doubled up the Pirates 10-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 37-13 at the end of three.

Emerson-Hubbard notched 14 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for the Gators.

Excellent effort from Wisner-Pilger in the first 2 games of the season, in my opinion. The Gators came super close to knocking off the Eagles and played a real solid game, especially defensively, against the Pirates.

Wisner-Pilger (1-1) takes on Tekamah-Herman (0-2) on the road Friday night.

The Tigers lost 59-36 at Pender Friday night.

Tekamah-Herman played two tough teams in the Pendragons and Stanton, and figures to be battle tested come Friday night.

This should be a competitive game, but I would think the Gators would win.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Wisner-Pilger is down a couple of players due to injury, but either way the Gators should be able to win.

Wisner-Pilger really needs this one with games coming up against Oakland-Craig and Wayne next week.

The Gators have to play the kind of defense they played against the Pirates, and the kind of offense they played against the Eagles.

If Wisner-Pilger can combine what they did on those respective sides of the ball in those respective games then they should put themselves in a good position to win the game.

The Gators have to come out and play with passion, pride, fire, toughness, tenacity, grit, and intensity.

Wisner-Pilger has to be tenacious on defense and assertive on offense.

The Gators have to take the fight to the Tigers for 4 quarters, and never let up.

Wisner-Pilger needs to play the exact same way they did against Emerson-Hubbard only getting the offense going more.

I think the Gators showed they are a solid team given how they played this past weekend, and I look for Wisner-Pilger to build off what they did last week and play even better Friday night.

I think the Gators are going to need to pay extra special attention to Marin Jetensky. She is an outstanding player for Tekamah-Herman.

If Wisner-Pilger slows her down the Gators should be in good shape.

GACC Boys off to 1-1 start; Girls begin season 2-0

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys Basketball Team lost 62-33 at Lutheran High Northeast Friday night in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic before downing Emerson-Hubbard 56-39 on the road Saturday.

The Eagles led 19-4 at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 10-6 to take a 29-10 lead into the locker room.

LHNE outscored GACC 16-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 45-20 at the end of three.

The Eagles put up 17 points in the 4th quarter compared to 13 for the Bluejays.

The opener was rough for GACC, but I thought the Bluejays did a nice job bouncing back and beating the Pirates the way they did.

GACC (1-1) battles Columbus Scotus (0-1) on the road Tuesday night.

The Shamrocks lost 53-40 at Hastings St. Cecilia Thursday night.

A lot of people expect Scotus to rebuild this year, but based on that first game, it appears the Shamrocks aren't too bad of a team.

The Bluehawks are a perennial power, and to only lose to them by 13 considering it was the first game and who all Scotus lost from last year, that's not too bad.

With that said, I definitely think GACC can compete.

Neither team is probably as strong as they were last year, but I look for the Bluejays to give the Shamrocks their best shot.

It appears GACC's offense and defense was much stronger on Saturday than Friday.

With that said, the Bluejays are going to need to play their best game of the year to come out on top on Tuesday.

I don't know if GACC can beat Scotus if they play the way they did against LHNE.

The Bluejays need to play the way they did Saturday and then some in order to give the Shamrocks all they can handle and win.

I feel GACC will go in there and play a good game and leave with their heads held high.

I think this is a game where the Bluejays can come away knowing they improved from Week 1 to the third game of the season, and can use the game as a springboard to greater things this year.

GACC has tough games with Wynot and Crofton later this week so this one is big for the Bluejays' confidence heading into the rest of the week, in my opinion.

GACC has to be ready to play, and has to get off to a fast start and finish strong as well.

The Bluejays need to keep things close throughout, and outscore Scotus in at least a couple of quarters to have a realistic shot, in my opinion.

One bad quarter could ultimately cost GACC I think.

The Bluejays are working to get better, and are still a young team, and I think this team will do some nice things and make some strides Tuesday night, win or lose.

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls Basketball Team downed Emerson-Hubbard 64-23 at home Thursday night before downing Lutheran High Northeast 66-45 on Saturday.

The Bluejays led the Pirates 19-11 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 15-10 to lead 34-21 at halftime.

GACC outscored Emerson-Hubbard 15-2 in the 3rd quarter to take a 49-23 lead at the end of three.

The Bluejays blanked the Pirates 15-0 in the 4th quarter.

Marissa Hunke had a game-high 20 points while Lexis Haase had 17 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Brandi Doernemann added 9 points.

GACC led the Eagles 15-12 after one. The Bluejays outscored LHNE 19-8 in the 2nd quarter to go up 34-20 at halftime.

GACC won the 3rd quarter 17-8 to make it a 51-28 game after three.

The Eagles notched 17 points in the 4th quarter compared to 15 for the Bluejays.

GACC is off to a picture perfect start. The Bluejays haven't missed a beat from last season so far.

GACC (2-0) takes on Columbus Scotus (0-1) on the road Tuesday night.

The Shamrocks lost 43-42 at Hastings St. Cecilia Thursday night.

I think this is going to be a great game, and feel the Bluejays can definitely win and steal one on the road from Scotus.

GACC just has to play the way they did last week, and they should be just fine.

I think this young team will learn a lot about themselves Tuesday night.

The Shamrocks are by the far the strongest team the Bluejays have seen up to this point.

The rest of the week is tough with Wynot on the road Thursday, and Crofton at home on Saturday, so it's important for GACC to get this one I would say.

We will find out just how good and how for real the Bluejays are after this week.

I think GACC is still a great and very strong team, but the Bluejays will be tested big time this week.

If GACC can come out of this week 2-1 or better that will be a very good sign for the Bluejays, in my opinion.

1-2 or 0-3 would have to be considered disappointing given GACC's standards I would say.

Winning this week won't come easy though. All three opponents are great, and it's going to take 3 outstanding performances from the Bluejays to win each game.

All GACC should be focused on right now though is Columbus Scotus.

The Bluejays shouldn't be worried about Wynot and Crofton at the moment.

The first and only order of business at the moment is beating the Shamrocks.

I look for GACC's offense to be the difference in this one. I don't think Scotus has a particularly strong offense, and feel the Bluejays will have enough offense to win. I think both teams are fairly even defensively.

This would be a huge win for GACC with the Shamrocks being a C-1 school.

Being in D-1, the Bluejays will earn extra power points win or lose.

A loss isn't the end of the world, but GACC really wants this one, you can bet on that.

Clarkson/Leigh Boys lose to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and Madison; Girls lose to Bulldogs, beat Dragons

The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball Team has been competitive in the early going, but lost 55-44 at home to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Friday night, and 67-60 at Madison on Saturday.

The Bulldogs won the 1st quarter 14-9 before the Patriots outscored HLHF 18-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-25 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs outscored Clarkson/Leigh 15-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 40-35 after three.

HLHF put up 15 points in the 4th quarter and held the Patriots to 9.

Anthony Bruhn had 15 points while Daniel Beller added 10 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Garrett Schroeder added 9 while Haden Held totaled 7.

Clarkson/Leigh led the Dragons 17-15 after one. Madison won the 2nd quarter 12-9 to take a 27-26 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots won the 3rd quarter 16-15 to tie the game at 42 at the end of three.

The Dragons outscored Clarkson/Leigh 25-18 in the 4th quarter.

Beller had team-highs of 17 points and 7 rebounds while Bruhn added 10 points. Schroeder chipped in 9 while Jacob Gall registered 7.

I thought the Patriots did a great job of competing in both games. Clarkson/Leigh just wasn't able to put together a full four quarter game in either contest.

The Patriots (0-2) host Oakland-Craig (0-2) Tuesday night.

The Knights lost 62-54 at home to Boys Town on Saturday.

Oakland-Craig has been without Garrett Seagren, and if he doesn't play, then Clarkson/Leigh should have a chance to win.

The biggest things for the Patriots, in my opinion, are playing a complete four quarter game and playing strong defense.

I don't think scoring has been an issue for Clarkson/Leigh with the exception of the 2nd half against HLHF, it has just been their defense that has hurt them for the most part I would say.

I know defense has been a major focus and focal point for the Patriots this season...now it's a matter of going out there and slowing people down.

The Knights are a very explosive team offensively, with or without Seagren, and I look for this one to be a high scoring affair.

I think Clarkson/Leigh will compete well and give Oakland-Craig a run for their money, but I think the difference between winning and losing comes down to getting stops on defense and playing a complete four quarter game.

The Patriots gave up 1/4 of 100 in the 4th quarter of Saturday's game, and Clarkson/Leigh has to be better than that defensively late in games if they want to pick up wins.

I give the Patriots a lot of credit for tying the game with Madison through 3 quarters, but Clarkson/Leigh has to simply finish.

Solid starts and close quarters are good, but it ultimately comes down to how you finish when it comes to close games.

So far the Patriots have been on the losing end of a couple of close contests, now it's a matter of getting over that hump, and turning these close losses into wins.

Clarkson/Leigh can definitely do it. Beller, Bruhn, Schroeder, Gall, and Held have been good so far, now it's a matter of the Patriots continuing to do what they have offensively and fine tuning some things on defense.

Things like boxing out and contesting shots are going to be very important against the Knights, in my opinion.

I feel this game is going to come down to heart, desire, determination, hustle, and want to.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls Basketball Team is off to a 1-1 start, falling 40-28 at home to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in Friday night's season opener, before winning 55-26 at Madison on Saturday.

The Bulldogs led 6-4 after one, and outscored the Patriots 15-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-10 lead into the locker room.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 14-6 in the 3rd quarter to get back into it at 27-24.

The Bulldogs notched 13 points in the 4th quarter compared to 4 for the Patriots to make up the final score.

Clarkson/Leigh jumped on the Dragons early, getting out to a 10-2 lead after one. The Patriots outscored Madison 19-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-9 lead into the locker room.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 14-10 to make it a 43-19 game at the end of three.

The Patriots put up 12 4th quarter points, and held the Dragons to 7.

I was going to say after the HLHF game that Clarkson/Leigh needed to do a better job of finishing games and play a compete four quarter game, but the Patriots quickly bounced back and did that against Madison, in my opinion.

Clarkson/Leigh (1-1) hosts Oakland-Craig (2-0) Tuesday night.

The Knights won 60-19 at home over Boys Town on Saturday.

This game is a big opportunity for the Patriots I feel.

Oakland-Craig is without Dacey Nelson the whole season, although Kennedy Benne has done an excellent job of stepping up I would say.

The Patriots are a very good team defensively though, and I look for this to be a very close, tight, and good contest.

It will be interesting to see if Clarkson/Leigh can get over the hump.

I feel the Knights have been more consistent to this point, yet I think the Patriots have played tougher competition.

This should be a great game. The only concern I have is can Clarkson/Leigh's offense do enough to win?

I think they can, but it's not going to be easy whatsoever.

These are the types of games the Patriots need to win to be viewed a title contender though  I would say.

GACC has already proven they are going to be very tough in Sub-Districts so that makes every regular season game that much more important.

Clarkson/Leigh has to continue to get better and step up their game like they did from Game 1 to Game 2.

The Patriots have to come out and be focused and be intense against Oakland-Craig Tuesday night.

This is a big game and week for Clarkson/Leigh with road games at Winside and BRLD on Thursday and Friday, and the Patriots have to get the week started off on the right foot.

I think this game against the Knights will sort of set the tone for the rest of the week.

I think Clarkson/Leigh has a chance to go 3-0 or 2-1 this week, but the Patriots have to dig deep and find something extra, and want it more than each of their opponents, and in particular, Oakland-Craig.

Clarkson/Leigh has to come out and play with a burning fire, passion, and must also play with a lot of pride, mental and physical toughness, tenacity, and grit.

The Patriots are at home, and must have the mentality that no one is going to come in their house and beat them, even though the Bulldogs already did.

Oakland-Craig Boys lose to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and Boys Town; Girls beat both

The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team lost 67-45 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Thursday night and 62-54 at home to Boys Town on Saturday.

The Raiders jumped on the Knights 18-7 at the end of the first quarter. LVSS tripled up Oakland-Craig 18-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-13 lead into the locker room.

The Raiders won the 3rd quarter 21-17 to lead 57-30 at the end of three.

The Knights put up 15 points in the 4th quarter compared to 10 for LVSS.

Jared Mulder had a team-high 12 points while Garrison Dodge and Tyson Harney totaled 8 and 7, respectively. Wyatt Seagren chipped in 8 rebounds.

Oakland-Craig got off to a strong start against the Cowboys, going up 13-10 at the end of one. Boys Town outscored the Knights 23-15 in the 2nd quarter to take 33-28 lead into the locker room.

The Cowboys won the 3rd quarter 12-9 to extend their lead to 45-37 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 17 points in the 4th quarter.

Kobe Benne had a game-high 25 points for Oakland-Craig while Mulder and Seagren chipped in 8 and 7, respectively.

I thought the Knights played well against Boys Town considering they were without Garrett Seagren. Not having him kind of led to the slow start against LVSS I would say, but after that first half against the Raiders, Oakland-Craig appeared to figure some things out.

The Knights (0-2) battle Clarkson/Leigh (0-2) on the road Tuesday night.

The Patriots were very competitive in their first two games of the season, losing 55-44 to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family at home Friday night, and 67-60 at Madison on Saturday.

It certainly doesn't appear like it will be easy to beat Clarkson/Leigh, especially on their home floor, but I'm willing to bet Oakland-Craig finds a way to get the job done.

Regardless of if Garrett Seagren plays or not, I look for this to be a win for the Knights.

I don't know if the Patriots will be able to slow down Oakland-Craig offensively.

Clarkson/Leigh's offense may put up a fair amount of points against the Knights, but it will be interesting to see if the Patriots' defense is able to do anything.

Oakland-Craig has to look to get out and run and push tempo.

This is a game the Knights need to not only win, but win big.

Oakland-Craig has to come out and put their foot on the throttle and keep pushing forward.

The Knights have to be relentless offensively, and apply a lot of pressure on defense as well.

Oakland-Craig has to take care of the ball, and force Clarkson/Leigh into committing a bunch of turnovers.

I would say the Patriots are a much improved team from last year already, but the Knights appear to be good again, and have been even without Garrett Seagren, in my opinion.

Oakland-Craig may be 0-2, but I still think this team is good.

I look for the Knights to pick up a couple of wins this week over Clarkson/Leigh and Pender, and give Howells-Dodge a great battle on Saturday.

I think Oakland-Craig can go 3-0 this week, but the Knights need Seagren back for the Howells-Dodge game if at all possible.

The Jaguars appear to be off to a great start so far, and I don't know if Oakland-Craig will beat them without Garrett.

First things first though, the Knights have to focus on and worry about beating the Patriots.

Oakland-Craig can worry about Howells-Dodge after Friday night's game against the Pendragons.

The Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball team won 53-32 at home over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Thursday night before downing Boys Town 60-19 at home on Saturday.

The Knights jumped on the Raiders 15-2 at the end of one, and outscored LVSS 15-8 in the 2nd quarter to lead 30-10 at halftime.

The Raiders won the 3rd quarter 13-12 to make it a 42-23 game at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig put up 11 points in the 4th quarter, and held LVSS to 9.

Kennedy Benne led all scorers with 27 points while Ashley Denton totaled 7.

The Knights led the Cowboys 30-6 after one. Oakland-Craig outscored Boys Town 16-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 46-8 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 6 points in the 3rd quarter, and it was 52-14 Knights at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig won the 4th quarter 8-5.

Benne led the way with 17 points while Makenna Pearson and Natalia McNeill registered 8 apiece. Mya Guzinski and Ellie Weitzenkamp recorded 7 each.

Two good wins for the Knights. Two lopsided wins is always a great way to get the season started.

Oakland-Craig (2-0) takes on Clarkson/Leigh (1-1 on the road Tuesday night.

The Patriots won 55-26 at Madison on Saturday after dropping their season opener at home to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Friday night, 40-28.

Clarkson/Leigh is a tough team, and is probably the best team the Knights will have faced so far.

Oakland-Craig has to be up and ready for this one.

The Patriots had a great Volleyball season, and appear to be a good Basketball team as well.

With that said, I think the Knights have been a little better up to this point.

I've been super impressed with Oakland-Craig's offense, and their ability to score the ball.

Anytime you put up over 50 points you're doing something right.

I think Clarkson/Leigh's defense has been just as good if not better than the Knights's though.

Both teams are playing at a high level right now, and if the Patriots have an offensive game like they did against Madison then this game could be very interesting.

If Oakland-Craig holds down Clarkson/Leigh's offense the way the Bulldogs did though then the Knights should be able to win.

Oakland-Craig may be without Dacey Nelson, but so far you can't tell.

This Patriot team will be the toughest team the Knights will have faced so far though.

The Patriots appeared to play a lot better on offense Saturday than they did on Friday, and a lot of that could have had to do with who they were playing, but still Clarkson/Leigh turned in an impressive performance on Saturday.

I like Oakland-Craig in this one though as I feel they've been more consistent up to this point.

I think the Patriots are still kind of trying to gain their form after a long Volleyball season, and feel the Knights will be well prepared and ready for whatever Clarkson/Leigh decides to throw at them and at their way.

This should be a great, close game though. I don't think there's any doubt Oakland-Craig is in for a dog fight.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys start season 2-0; Girls off to 0-2 start

The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys Basketball Team is 2-0 on the season so far as the Raiders won 67-45 at Oakland-Craig Thursday night and 74-55 at Twin River on Saturday.

The Raiders jumped on the Knights 18-7 at the end of the first quarter. LVSS tripled up Oakland-Craig 18-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-13 lead into the locker room.

Ben Moxness had 21 points and 8 rebounds while Jacob Polk added 21 points. Alex VonSeggern scored 10 while Alex Hagerbaumer notched 9.

The Raiders led 17-13 over the Titans after one. LVSS won the 2nd quarter 21-14 to take a 38-27 lead into the locker room.

LVSS took the 3rd quarter 18-16, and led 56-43 after three.

The Raiders outscored Twin River 18-12 in the 4th quarter.

Polk poured in 35 points while Moxness added 22.

LVSS is off to a blazing start. Exactly the type of start the Raiders were hoping for I'm sure.

LVSS (2-0) hosts Wayne (1-1) Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils lost 68-61 at home to Battle Creek Friday night.

Wayne is a tough, good team, and figures to give the Raiders a test, but I like LVSS to win at home.

I think Polk and Moxness will be too much for the Blue Devils to slow down and contain, and feel that the Raiders are the better team.

I think this will be anywhere from a 10-15 point game, and like LVSS to win by something like that margin.

The Raiders won 68-61 at Wayne last year, and I think both teams are even better this year.

LVSS has to get off to the same kind of start they did against Oakland-Craig, and play well like they did the entire game against Twin River.

If the Raiders can put together 4 good quarters Tuesday night they should be able to win by a good margin I would think.

LVSS has to look to push tempo and play fast and force the Blue Devils into some tough shots.

Wayne likes to run and gun too I'm pretty sure, but I feel the Raiders are better at getting out in transition and knocking down open shots.

Both teams' offenses have been stout so far, but LVSS's has proven to be more explosive I would say.

I also think the Raiders have a better defense, and that's why I look for LVSS to beat the Blue Devils.

It could be argued that Wayne has played tougher teams so far, but the margin of victory for the Raiders can't be overlooked by any means.

This LVSS team appears to be very legit, and if the first two weeks are any indication of how the season is going to go, then Raider fans are in for a huge treat this year.

LVSS has a tough game at Wahoo on Saturday, and I think that's game we'll find out just how for real and legit this Raider team is so there's one more chance for LVSS to clean up any mistakes they've made in the first two games before a great team comes calling.

The Raiders haven't really made a lot of mistakes so far it doesn't look like at least based on their scores so LVSS simply has to keep it up, and continue to do what they've been doing.

I think Tuesday night is another chance and time for the Raiders to shine and showcase their abilities as a team.

The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder girls basketball team opened the season with a 53-32 loss to Oakland-Craig on the road Thursday night. LVSS got off to a slow start and was unable to close the gap to get back in the game. Leading scorers were: Morgan Morgan-9, Valerie Uehling-8.

The Raiders ended the week with a 33-32 loss in overtime to Twin River on the road Saturday. LVSS went on a big second half run to tie the game and Sierra Beacom hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds left to send it to overtime. Big Scorers for LVSS were: Kaylee Boyle-9, Sierra Beacom-8.

I was very impressed by the Raiders' performance against the Titans. I felt like LVSS did a great job making some clutch plays in nearly winning that game.

The Raiders (0-2) host Wayne (1-1) Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils won 69-57 at home over Battle Creek Friday night.

I feel LVSS has a chance to be very competitive in and make this game close.

The Raiders' defense has been solid so far, now it's just a matter of getting the offense going.

Wayne has given up 78 and 57 in their first two games, and I feel LVSS has a chance to score more points in this game than they did in either of their first two games.

If the Raiders can hold the Blue Devils under 50 points and get to 40 or more I think LVSS has a chance to pull this one out.

The game is at home, and I fully expect the Raiders to play well.

North Bend Central only beat Twin River by 5, and LVSS nearly beat them, so the Raiders have to feel like they've got a shot Tuesday night.

The girls have to get pumped up and excited for this one.

They have to feel optimistic about their chances, and have to believe in themselves, in each other, and in their abilities.

LVSS has to feel like they've got a legit shot to win, because if they play defense the way they did against Twin River, and get the offense on track, I truly believe they can win.

Wayne might be a little bit more explosive offensively though, which makes playing great defense very important.

Just taking the Titans to overtime and having a chance to win has to give the Raiders a big boost of confidence heading into this one I would think.

LVSS now knows it can hang with a great team, and now it's a matter of going out there and beating one.

Thursday night's game was a bit rough, I felt the Raiders settled in nicely on defense against Twin River, and made a great 4th quarter rally.

Now it's just a matter of clicking on all cylinders and playing 4 good quarters of basketball against the Blue Devils.

Things started to come together for LVSS on Saturday, and I feel there's a chance they can come all together for the Raiders Tuesday night.
