Oakland-Craig Boys lose to North Bend Central and Treynor, IA: Girls beat Tigers and Norris

The Oakland-Craig Boys Basketball Team fell 58-52 at home to North Bend Central Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before losing 69-42 to Treynor, IA at Sokol Arena in Omaha on Saturday.

Oakland-Craig went on a 7-0 run to start the game against the Tigers, and led 9-2. But North Bend Central went on a 7-0 run of their own and scored the final 11 points of the first quarter to take a 16-13 lead.

Jaxon Wietfeld took over for the Tiger in the second quarter, scoring eight points in helping NBC to a 31-23 halftime lead.

Oakland-Craig came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring NBC 14-11, but the Tigers still held a 42-37 advantage after three.

A key stat throughout the first three quarters were the charge fouls called against NBC on offense. The Tigers had six called against them in the first three frames, and seven in the game. And Oakland-Craig had three charges called on them. Both teams were playing very fast and very aggressive, which created an exciting atmosphere, but also resulted in the unusually high amount of fouls on offense.

Oakland-Craig was able to pull with three points at 49-46 with just over three minutes left in the game.

North Bend Central then went on a 6-0 run to lead 55-46. The Tigers made free throws down the stretch and were leading 58-49 when O-C’s Colton Thomsen made a three pointer as time expired.

Caden Nelson led Oakland-Craig with 16 points and Gunnar Ray added 12 and Thomsen 7. Wyatt Seagren notched 11 rebounds while Coulter Thiele had 8.


The Knights were tied at 10 at the end of one with Treyor. The Cardinals outscored Oakland-Craig 21-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 31-21 lead into the locker room.

Treynor outscored the Knights 20-7 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 51-28 at the end of three.

The Cardinals won the 4th quarter 18-14.

Seagren registered 16 points and 9 rebounds while Thomsen recorded 11 points.

Two tough setbacks for Oakland-Craig.

The Knights (13-5) travel to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (14-2) to take on the Bulldogs Tuesday night.

H/LHF lost 74-52 at BRLD Friday night.

The same Wolverines team that beat Oakland-Craig 66-37 last Saturday.

So Oakland-Craig kind of comes into this game stumbling a bit you could say.

The Knights have kind of hit a road block and rough patch in the season.

Oakland-Craig is kind of limping and stumbling into the East Husker Conference Tournament.

The Knights could use a really good game Tuesday night.

I think the tough competition Oakland-Craig has played has led to their recent struggles as has losing to these teams.

The Knights were rolling at one point, and need to get back to that.

I really feel like Oakland-Craig has a chance to get back on track in the Conference Tournament.

The Knights open up with Tekamah-Herman on Saturday and will likely get Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the Quarterfinals next Tuesday.

So not to take away the importance of the game with the Bulldogs, because this one is obviously very important, but I feel Oakland-Craig is in good shape for the Conference Tournament win or lose on Tuesday.

The matchups are already decided so nothing to play for in terms of seeding.

However, this is a big game for the Wildcard point standings should the Knights need a wildcard to get into Sub-State.

A win for Oakland-Craig would be really big so we'll see if the Knights can win and get the job done against a really good H/LHF team.

The Bulldogs' two losses are to North Bend Central and BRLD so you know the defending D-1 State Champs are a really good team.

Oakland-Craig is a really good team themselves though so the Knights have to go into Humphrey or Lindsay and put on a show.

The Oakland-Craig Girls nipped North Bend Central 40-39 at home Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before beating Class B Norris 48-40 at Sokol Arena in Omaha on Saturday.

The NBC game featured a match up of previously unbeatens, with both teams heading in at 15-0. The game was tightly contested throughout, and the game was tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Knights were able to hold NBC to just six points in the second quarter, and Oakland-Craig took a 22-16 lead into halftime.

Oakland-Craig stretched their lead to 10 early in the second half, but they were eventually held to just five points in the third quarter, and the Tigers didn’t score in the third until almost two minutes left, but they went on a run late in the frame, adding nine points, making the score Oakland-Craig 27, NBC 25 after three.

The Knights started to create a little separation in the fourth, but NBC went on a small scoring run, and cut the score to 40-39 with 9.6 seconds to go.

The Tigers had the basketball on their side of the floor down one with 9.6 seconds left and a chance to win the game. A shot from Sydney Emanuel missed off the right side of the rim and time expired, preserving the victory for Oakland-Craig.

Kennedy Benne scored 12 points to lead O-C, with Chaney Nelson adding eight. Makenna Pearson registered 7 points while Jeannina Blahak totaled 7 rebounds.


The Titans got out to an 8-6 lead at the end of one. The Knights won the 2nd quarter 12-8 to take an 18-16 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig won the 3rd quarter 14-10 to extend their lead to 32-26 at the end of three.

The Knights won the 4th quarter 16-14.

Benne registered a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds while Blahak posted 7 boards.

A couple of really great wins for Oakland-Craig.

The Knights (17-0) take on Humphrey/Lindsay Holy/Family (16-1) on the road Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs won 74-71 at BRLD Friday night.

I really feel the Wolverines have regressed somewhat ever since losing to Oakland-Craig.

Not take anything away from H/LHF's win over them, but I feel like the Knights' win over BRLD was more impressive than the Bulldogs'.

And that's why I like Oakland-Craig to win this one.

This is the only game of the week for the Knights as after Tuesday they are off until next Monday due to having a bye in the East Husker Conference Tournament.

This is a huge game heading into the tournament though.

This game doesn't affect seeding, but it affects momentum and could impact how each team performs in the Tournament.

These two teams would have to both get through the Semifinals and play in the Championship to see one another again more than likely, but that could definitely happen.

So it's Round One of what could potentially be a couple of matchups.

I think the biggest thing for Oakland-Craig is to be disciplined and level headed.

The Knights are coming off two great wins, no doubt about that, but if they aren't focused and ready for the Bulldogs they could get beat.

Oakland-Craig is always so well disciplined and ready and prepared to play though that I don't see that happening or being an issue.

I look for the Knights to come out and play a strong game Tuesday night, and turn in a stout performance against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

A win for Oakland-Craig would be another shot of momentum you could say.

I feel a victory would be very uplifting for the Knights and would give them all kinds of momentum heading into the Conference Tournament.

Not that Oakland-Craig needs any more momentum right now, but it would give the Knights an abundance of it.

West Point-Beemer Boys fall to Twin River and Logan View/Scribner-Snyder; Girls beat both

The West Point-Beemer Boys Basketball Team lost 60-42 at Twin River Friday night and 46-32 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday.

The Raiders led 11-9 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 16-11 to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room.

LVSS won the 3rd quarter 9-5 to extend their lead to 36-25 at the end of three.

The Raiders took the 4th quarter 10-7.

A pair of tough losses for the Cadets, but I did feel like West Point-Beemer played better.

The Cadets (3-13) take on Pierce (8-6) on the road Tuesday night.

The Bluejays lost 40-34 at Battle Creek on Saturday.

The same Braves team that beat West Point-Beemer 62-29 at home on Tuesday, January 14th.

So the Cadets definitely have their work cut out for them in this one.

I feel like West Point-Beemer can compete and do well though given improved results over the weekend.

I feel the Cadets are playing better now than they were when they played Battle Creek.

Whether that results in a win or not remains to be seen, but I look for West Point-Beemer to play well.

I think the Cadets can definitely compete and hang with Pierce.

I don't know about a win, but anything is certainly possible.

I think West Point-Beemer is starting to grow up a little bit.

The team is relatively young this year, but they seem to be getting better and more sure of themselves.

The Cadets have a long ways to go, but I feel there is potential and promise for West Point-Beemer in the future.

The Cadets have to come out and play well on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

West Point-Beemer hosts Wayne on Thursday and that will be another tough contest for the Cadets.

Then it's Twin River in the East Husker Conference Tournament on Saturday so we'll see what West Point-Beemer can do this week.

Three challenging nights of basketball for sure, but I look for the Cadets to step up and do well and play good games.

Hopefully West Point-Beemer can win at least 2 of the games, or at least one of them.

Losing all three this week would be tough heading into next week.

The West Point-Beemer Girls won 68-37 at Twin River Friday night before rolling Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 60-28 at home on Saturday.

The Cadets held a 25-13 lead on the Titans at the end of one. West Point-Beemer outscored Twin River 21-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 46-23 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets outscored the Titans 18-2 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 64-25 at the end of three.

Twin River tripled up West Point-Beemer 12-4 in the 4th quarter.

Sidney Swanson had 21 points while Rachel Groth notched 15. Emily Toelle added 12 while Jadyn Meiergerd posted 7.


The Cadets led the Raiders 19-7 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 13-6 to take a 32-13 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer outscored Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 19-4 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 51-17 at the end of three.

LVSS won the 4th quarter 11-9.

Swanson led all scorers with 25 points while Reece Snodgrass had 7. Groth pulled down 11 rebounds.

Great play in both games by the Cadets. I'm sure West Point-Beemer is very glad that Snodgrass is now eligible.

The Cadets (13-4) take on Pierce (7-6) on the road Tuesday night.

The Bluejays lost 59-47 at Battle Creek on Saturday.

That's the same Bravettes team that West Point-Beemer beat 47-32 back on Tuesday, January 14th.

I think the Cadets have a great chance to win this one.

Pierce is a really tough place to play, but I feel West Point-Beemer is equipped to go into a tough, hostile road environment and win.

The Cadets also have Wayne at home on Thursday and then Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at BRLD on Friday.

Manageable week for West Point-Beemer I would say.

There's no reason why the Cadets shouldn't do well and go 3-0.

A potential EHC Quarterfinal matchup with BRLD looms next Monday, and that would be an interesting battle.

The Wolverines already beat West Point-Beemer once in blowout fashion.

I feel next Monday's potential game would be closer than that one was, but feel BRLD would have a good shot to win it still.

Still though the way the Cadets are playing right now and the way the Wolverines have struggled it figures to be very interesting.

We may know a little more as we get into the later part of the week.

West Point-Beemer has to focus on Pierce right now though.

The Bluejays are the only team that matters right now.

Wayne, LVSS, and others shouldn't even be on the Cadets' minds right now.

West Point-Beemer has to be focused on Pierce and the gameplan for trying to beat the Bluejays on their home court.

It should be an exciting week for the Cadets as we dive into Conference Tournament Play.

Wisner-Pilger Boys 2-1 in last three games; Girls 1-2

The Wisner-Pilger Boys won 57-56 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday before losing 44-37 at home to Twin River Tuesday night, and then won 64-19 at Pender Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Gators led the Raiders 8-6 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 15-13 to take a 23-19 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 15-12 to extend their lead to 38-31 at the end of three.

LVSS outscored the Gators 25-19 in the 4th quarter.


The Gators led the Pendragons 24-2 at the end of the 1st quarter highlighted by a two-hand slam by Dylan Kneifl on Wisner-Pilger's first possession.

The Gators never looked back, outscoring Pender 15-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-8 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger outscored the Pendragons 19-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 58-13 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 6 points in the 4th quarter.

Head Coach Duane Mendlik on the win. "Yeah I thought our kids played pretty well tonight. Defensively I thought we did a really good job. Took away a lot of the things they wanted to try and do early in the game. And I think that kind of frustrated them. And then they kind of got out of their situation. Second half they came back and did a few things that they wanted to do, and I just thought our kids played pretty well both offensively and defensively."

Kneifl had a game-high 17 points to lead the Gators. Regan Bellar was also in double figures with 11 as was Colby Heller with 10. Caden Schweers added 9.

Wisner-Pilger improves to 9-5 and takes on Clarkson/Leigh (5-8) on the road Tuesday night.

The Patriots lost 58-50 at home to Twin River Thursday night.

Mendlik says the Patriots will be a challenge. "Yes and Clarkson always plays us tough at their place. So we better go over with the idea that we're going to have to play really hard in order to try and get a win out of it. When you look at records you can't look at records anymore. Anybody on any given night can beat you. So I think we have to come over there and play good basketball because we got the conference tournament coming up, and we need to excel there too."

Mendlik, who broke the record for the most wins in Nebraska High School Basketball History last year, has been named a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association National Coach of the Year. "I really appreciate that because it comes from the Coaches Association so it's my fellow coaches that basically nominate somebody for that award. And I've been nominated before and never won it, but hopefully things go well for us. And that's a great honor to get nominated for that," Mendlik said.

What a great game Wisner-Pilger played Thursday night.

I look for the Gators to play well again Tuesday night.

Wisner-Pilger also has North Bend Central Thursday night prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament so some big games upcoming for the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger has Justin Pieper back from injury now so that should really help the Gators.

I really feel like Wisner-Pilger is poised to make a run at State, and get to the State Tournament this year.

If the Gators can play the way they did against the Pendragons night in and night out they can go places.

Wisner-Pilger just has to be consistent with their play and get rid of the bugaboo games.

The Gators are at full strength now so I look for Wisner-Pilger to make a run.

The Gators really had their 1-3-1 zone defense working Thursday night, and that has to continue to be effective for Wisner-Pilger.

The Gators have to be strong offensively from here on out.

Wisner-Pilger has to get rid of the games they only score in the 30's.

The Wisner-Pilger Girls won 61-48 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Saturday before falling 45-44 at home to Twin River Tuesday night, and 50-39 at Pender Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Gators went up 15-10 on the Raiders after one. Wisner-Pilger won the 2nd quarter 7-5 to take a 22-15 lead into the locker room.

The Gators outscored LVSS 20-14 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 42-29 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 19 points in the 4th quarter.


The Gators got out to a 19-14 lead on the Titans at the end of one. Wisner-Pilger won the 2nd quarter 11-7 to go up 30-21 at halftime.

Twin River won the 3rd quarter 8-6 to make it a 36-29 ball game at the end of three.

The Titans doubled up the Gators 16-8 in the 4th quarter.


The Pendragons led 6-4 in the 1st quarter and 9-6 at the end of one.

Pender opened up a double digit lead in the 2nd quarter, doubling up the Gators 22-11 in the period to take a 31-17 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 9 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 40-26 at the end of three in favor of the Pendragons.

Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 13-10.

The Gators trailed by as many as 16 and got to within 10 a couple of times in the second half, but could draw no closer.

Wisner-Pilger was 5-7 from the free throw line in the 1st half, but went just 8-18 in the second half.

Karrin Jindra and Lindsey Kneifl each had 9 points for the Gators while Aspin Waterman totaled 8.

A promising win on Saturday followed by a couple of tough losses.

The Gators (3-12) take on Clarkson/Leigh (11-4) on the road Tuesday night.

The Patriots won 58-25 at home over Twin River Thursday night.

Pender beat Clarkson/Leigh 49-44 so this one between Wisner-Pilger and the Patriots figures to be close.

I think the key for the Gators is knocking down free throws.

The free throw line was the difference in the game Thursday night I thought, and Wisner-Pilger is going to need to convert at the charity stripe to come out on top, in my opinion.

The Gators can definitely do it too as they did it in the first half against the Pendragons Thursday night.

Wisner-Pilger also has to take care of the ball and play tough defense.

I would add the Gators need to use their size and athleticism inside and go to work in the post against  the Patriots.

Upsets happen all the time, and it wouldn't shock me if Wisner-Pilger pulled one off Tuesday night.

The Gators also have North Bend Central at home Thursday night so another big game prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament for Wisner-Pilger.

The Gators have to get back to playing the way they were prior to the Twin River game Tuesday night.

Wisner-Pilger has shown signs of promise so the Gators definitely know they can do it.

The Gators just have to learn to become consistent with their play.

Wisner-Pilger has to remain confident and must find a way to right the ship.

The loss to the Titans really had to hurt, but I feel there is some promise for Wisner-Pilger based on how they've played at times this season.

The Gators have to keep fighting and working hard and improving and plugging away.

Wisner-Pilger has a big opportunity in front of them Tuesday night, and simply has to seize the moment.

Pender Boys lose to Clarkson/Leigh and Wisner-Pilger; Girls defeat both

The Pender Boys Basketball Team lost 60-41 at Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night before falling 64-19 at home to Wisner-Pilger Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Patriots led 12-5 at the end of one before the Pendragons won the 2nd quarter 7-6 to make it an 18-12 game at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Pender 21-13 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 39-25 at the end of three.

The Patriots won the 4th quarter 21-16.


The Gators led 24-2 at the end of the 1st quarter highlighted by a two-hand slam by Dylan Kneifl on Wisner-Pilger's first possession.

The Gators never looked back, outscoring Pender 15-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-8 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger outscored the Pendragons 19-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 58-13 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 6 points in the 4th quarter.

Jaxon Maise had a team-high 8 points for Pender.

Really tough loss on Thursday for the Pendragons, who have dropped 6 in a row.

Pender (3-13) battles Howells-Dodge (8-5) on the road Saturday.

The Jaguars won 63-53 at Mead last Saturday.

The Pendragons had a heck of a time solving Wisner-Pilger's 1-3-1 zone defense.

Hopefully Saturday's game goes better for Pender because Thursday night was pretty rough.

I kind of feel like the Pendragons just need a win to snap out of this funk they are in.

If it doesn't happen on Saturday perhaps Pender will pick up wins over Madison on Monday and Emerson-Hubbard on Tuesday.

The outlook could be totally different heading into Thursday's game at Winnebago that will be carried on 107.9 the Bull.

We shall see as the Pendragons have to pick up their play.

Perhaps Pender will play well on Saturday and give themselves some good momentum heading into Monday.

There's still time for the Pendragons to make a little run and do something yet this year.

Pender has to keep battling hard and must continue to fight.

The Pendragons have to right the ship and must find a way to get back on track.

Pender has certainly stumbled down the stretch, but there is time for the Pendragons to make a run yet.

There's a lot of season left for Pender, and the Pendragons have to keep building and plugging away.

Often times the process of learning how to win games comes with some losses.

Pender has to do everything in their power to change the culture and cause a change in the results of the program.

The Pendragons have to forget about the tough loss to the Gators Thursday night, and find a way to bounce back in a big way on Saturday.

The Jaguars are tough and figure to be a difficult team for Pender to beat.

The Pender Girls knocked off Clarkson/Leigh 49-44 on the road Tuesday night, erasing a 19-point deficit and snapping the Patriots' 8-game winning streak before winning 50-39 at home over Wisner-Pilger Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

Clarkson/Leigh led the Pendragons 18-5 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to take a 29-14 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons tripled up the Patriots 15-5 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 34-29 game at the end of three.

Pender doubled up Clarkson/Leigh 20-10 in the 4th quarter.


The Pendragons led the Gators 6-4 in the 1st quarter and 9-6 at the end of one.

Pender opened up a double digit lead in the 2nd quarter, doubling up the Gators 22-11 in the period to take a 31-17 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 9 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 40-26 at the end of three in favor of the Pendragons.

Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 13-10.

Head Coach Luke Hoffman on the win. "Yeah I thought we came out and we played well from the beginning. We had some missed opportunities, but Wisner's a great team and they can pass the ball around pretty well and see down the court so I knew that coming in that they would be able to have pretty good vision farther down the court. But our girls did a nice job putting pressure on their guards and getting a few turnovers there in that first half."

Ashley Ostrand had a game-high 25 points, scoring half of the team's points while Zoey Lehmkuhl added 10 as the two combined for 35 of the team's 50 points.

Pender improves to 9-7 on the year and takes on Howells-Dodge (5-10) on the road Saturday. "Coach Polacek always has them ready to go. They had a tough schedule to begin the year. They managed to get through it. And now a few easier games and they've really come on. I know he knows what he's doing. You never know what he's going to come out in. So I have to have the girls prepared for everything when we play Howells-Dodge every single year," Hoffman said.

The Jaguars picked up a 52-45 win at Tekamah-Herman Friday night.

I think the Pendragons have a good chance to win this one.

Pender has been playing really good basketball as of late as they have won three in a row.

I feel like the Pendragons have really come on lately and played great basketball.

Pender has to keep it up and must continue to do well.

The Pendragons need to keep doing what they've been doing and continue to get better.

Pender has a real chance to do some damage prior to the East Husker Conference Tournament.

I don't think the Pendragons are a team people are going to want to face come conference tournament time.

Pender is playing their best basketball of the season right now, and are a different team than they were earlier in the season.

The Pendragons have to keep growing and improving.

I'm very impressed with how disciplined Pender is.

The Pendragons do a lot of nice things offensively and defensively, and don't beat themselves.

Pender is very fundamentally sound, and knows what they are doing.

I think the win over the Patriots kind of sparked the Pendragons a little bit.

Pender has to continue to build off these wins and keep performing at a high level.

The Pendragons struggled while Ostrand was injured, but Pender hasn't missed a beat since she's come back.

The Pendragons have to stay healthy this next week with all the games they will be playing.

Stanton Boys and Girls beat Madison

The Stanton Boys defeated Madison 59-47 on the road Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 19 at the end of one. Madison won the 2nd quarter 3-1 to take a 22-20 lead into the locker room.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 21-17 to pull in front 41-39 at the end of three.

The Mustangs outscored the Dragons 18-8 in the 4th quarter.

TJ Larson had 19 points and 8 rebounds while Mason Bruggeman notched 16 points. Brennan Wragge added 9 while Abe Larson recorded 8 rebounds.

Good and much needed win for Stanton.

The Mustangs (3-12) host BRLD (13-0) on Saturday.

The Wolverines won 71-35 at homer over Wakefield Tuesday night.

I don't know what you say to the team about this one.

BRLD is obviously a great team, but Stanton has to give things their best shot.

The team has to be positive and believe that they can do well and succeed on Saturday.

There will be many teaching points in this game for sure.

The Mustangs have to come out and do their best to compete against the Wolverines.

Stanton has to get fired and jacked up, and must be ready to play.

The Mustangs have to come out and lay everything out on the line.

Stanton needs to get off to a good start if they hope to be in this one, in my opinion.

The Mustangs have to find a way to get up and motivated for this game.

This is kind of your classic David vs. Goliath Clash, Hoosiers type of game if you may.

Stanton has to do everything they can to play the role of spoiler.

Winning may be a long shot for the Mustangs, but Stanton has to believe.

The Mustangs have to go out there and give it all they got.

BRLD is obviously a very talented team, but Stanton can't be phased by or scared of the Wolverines.

The Mustangs have had a lot of success in Boys Basketball in the past, and is a very proud and fine program and school.

The kids have to work hard and do everything they can to be successful.

Stanton has to play strong defense and must get their offense going as well.

The Mustangs can't back down from BRLD and think they are beat before the game even starts.

That would be easy to do, but Stanton can't think that way.

The Stanton Girls routed Madison 52-20 on the road Tuesday night.

The Mustangs got out to a 17-9 lead at the end of one. Stanton outscored Madison 12-1 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-10 lead into the locker room.

Sylvia Cunningham compiled 16 points while Emma Hansen tallied 7. Kinley Pohlman and Ellie Locke posted 9 rebounds each.

Stanton has now won three in a row.

The Mustangs (5-10) host BRLD (14-1) on Saturday.

The Wolverines won 81-56 at home over Wakefield-Allen Tuesday night.

Stanton has a tremendous challenge in front of them.

BRLD is a very good team that has gotten even better over the last year.

The Mustangs have to come out and play strong defense on Saturday.

Stanton has to try and hold down and limit the Wolverines offensively.

I feel BRLD's offense could be the difference in this one unless the Mustangs get their offense going.

I definitely think Stanton is going to have to win this game with their defense if they are to win.

The Mustangs can definitely do it too.

The Wolverines are certainly a great team, but anyone can beat anyone on any given night, and Stanton is certainly capable of pulling an upset.

The Mustangs have to play hard and smart and must simply play their game and be confident.

Stanton has to handle the ball well and find good, open shots.

The Mustangs need to be able to handle BRLD's press and not let it get to them if at all possible.

Stanton has to be fundamentally sound and get to the free throw line and make free throws as well as make layups.

The Mustangs have to do the little things well to be successful.

Stanton is definitely more than capable of competing and doing well on Saturday.

I feel the Mustangs are improving and getting better.

Stanton has had a lot of success in the past and has to get pumped and fired up for this one.

Stanton is the hunter as opposed to the hunted in this case.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys lose to Wisner-Pilger, beat Arlington; Girls fall to both

The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys Basketball Team lost 57-56 at home to Wisner-Pilger on Saturday before winning 57-41 at home over Arlington Tuesday night.

The Gators led the Raiders 8-6 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 15-13 to take a 23-19 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 15-12 to extend their lead to 38-31 at the end of three.

LVSS outscored the Gators 25-19 in the 4th quarter.

Riley Hoetfelker had 22 points while Connor Larson notched 12. Trystain Roseberry added 7.


The Arlington Game was tied at 12 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Raiders outscored the Eagles 15-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-16 lead into the locker room.

LVSS won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to go up 39-27 at the end of three.

The Raiders won the 4th quarter 18-14.

Garrett Kriete had 18 points and 8 rebounds while Hoetfelker totaled 18 points and Larson added 8.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder was also supposed to play Raymond Central on Thursday, but that game was postponed due to the weather.

The Raiders (10-4) take on West Point-Beemer (3-11) on the road Saturday.

The Cadets won 76-53 at home over Tekamah-Herman last Saturday.

LVSS should be able to win this one relatively easy you would think.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game had a running clock at some point in the second half.

This could easily be a 30 or 40 point win for the Raiders, in my opinion.

The game could also be close though so we will see what happens.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder needs to play well to get ready for the Howells-Dodge game on Tuesday.

The Raiders need to also win this one for East Husker Conference Tournament Seeding purposes.

LVSS has to be on top of their game on Saturday and must play the way they did against the Eagles Tuesday night.

The Raiders can't take West Point-Beemer lightly or underestimate them.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder got beat by Wisner-Pilger last Saturday so it just goes to show that anyone can be beaten on any given night.

I thought the Raiders would get the Gators, but they didn't.

I'm sure LVSS would have loved to have played against the Mustangs on Thursday.

The Raiders will just have to come out and play that much better on Saturday.

I look for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder to play a strong and great game against the Cadets.

I think the Raiders will play very well and strong defensively, and could have a big night on offense too.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder needs multiple contributions from everyone offensively.

The Raiders need Hoetfelker, Kriete, Larson, and others to step up and score.

West Point-Beemer has struggled defensively this year so that could definitely happen.

The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls fell 61-48 at home to Wisner-Pilger on Saturday before losing 37-33 at home to Arlington Tuesday night.

The Gators went up 15-10 on the Raiders after one. Wisner-Pilger won the 2nd quarter 7-5 to take a 22-15 lead into the locker room.

The Gators outscored LVSS 20-14 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 42-29 at the end of three.

Both teams scored 19 points in the 4th quarter.

Josie Kahlandt led the way with 21 points while Grace Schlueter had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Valerie Uehling added 7 points.

The Eagles outscored the Raiders 15-7 in the 4th quarter.

Both teams are very strong defensively so if the Raiders can keep this game in the 30's or 40's they might be able to pull the upset.

If West Point-Beemer gets to the 50's or 60's that's when Logan View/Scribner-Snyder could run into trouble.

The Raiders have to play hard and fearless on Saturday.

LVSS has to go into this game with the attitude that they aren't going to lose.

The Raiders have to believe in themselves and must go out there and try and win.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder has to play with a lot of school pride and great effort.

The Raiders have to give it all they got and leave it all on the floor.

LVSS has to play with the heart of a champion, and do everything in their power to upset the Cadets.

West Point-Beemer is playing very well right now though so beating them won't be easy.

The Cadets are a very good team that is peaking at the moment, and the Raiders will have to play an exceptional game to pull it off.

I think offense and scoring will be the biggest difference in the game for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

The Raiders really need to be confident when they shoot the ball and convert easy lay ups and free throws.

Handling the ball and limiting turnovers will be key as well for LVSS I feel.

The Raiders have to play optimistic and believe that they can win as cliche as it sounds.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder has to play with a lot of school pride and passion.

North Bend Central Boys and Girls beat Fremont Bergan and Columbus Scotus

The North Bend Central Boys Basketball Team won 64-49 at home over Fremont Bergan on Saturday before downing Columbus Scotus 61-48 on the road Tuesday night.

The Tigers and Knights were tied at 15 at the end of one. North Bend Central won the 2nd quarter 13-12 to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room.

The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 16-11 to extend their lead to 44-38 at the end of three.

NBC outscored Bergan 20-11 in the 4th quarter.


The Tigers led the Shamrocks 25-10 at the end of one, and outscored them 15-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 40-17 lead into the locker room.

Scotus won the 3rd quarter 13-11 to make it a 51-30 game at the end of three.

The Shamrocks outscored North Bend Central 18-10 in the 4th quarter.

Two solid wins for the Tigers.

North Bend Central (14-0) travels to Oakland to take on Oakland-Craig (13-3) Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Knights won 69-54 at home over Tekamah-Herman Tuesday night.

This game could go either way and is a complete toss up if you ask me.

One would think the Tigers have a good chance to win based on how they've played most of the season, but you never know.

I feel like North Bend Central has been challenged some over their last few games, especially against Wayne.

I think the Tigers could be due for a loss at some point and don't think that would necessarily hurt them.

Not that you ever want to lose a game, but I think North Bend Central could rebound from it pretty easily.

This game is big for East Husker Conference Tournament seeding so the Tigers need to win to stay in that 1 or 2 discussion.

It's going to be absolutely crazy to see how things turn out over the next couple of weeks with the East Husker Conference Tournament and all.

This should be a great battle Friday night though.

It's size and speed vs. athleticism in the case of Oakland-Craig vs. North Bend Central.

The Tigers can definitely shoot, and I think their ability to knock down jumpers could be the difference in this one.

Austin Endorf, Jaxon Wietfeld, and others need to have big games for North Bend Central.

You can bet the Knights' Wyatt Seagren and Colton Thomsen will bring their "A" games.

I fully anticipate Seagren being a force and factor down low and on the boards.

The Tigers have to make sure they know where he is at all times and get a body on him.

North Bend Central also has to play tight defense on Thomsen.

The game is scheduled to start after the girls game, which is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start on the Bull.

The North Bend Central Girls won 47-37 at home over Fremont Bergan on Saturday before defeating Columbus Scotus 40-27 on the road Tuesday night.

The Tigers and Knights were tied at 9 at the end of one. North Bend Central won the 2nd quarter 11-8 to take a 20-17 lead into the locker room.

The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 11-7 to increase their lead to 31-24 at the end of three.

NBC won the 4th quarter 16-13.

Good job by the Tigers both nights.

North Bend Central (15-0) takes on Oakland-Craig (15-0) on the road Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Knights won 63-29 at home over Tekamah-Herman Tuesday night.

Oakland-Craig also rallied in the 4th quarter in a big way at BRLD on Saturday, and won 55-52 on a Chaney Nelson buzzer beater.

The Tigers are definitely the more experienced and veteran laden team between the two squads.

The three freshmen that the Knights have are as solid as they come though.

It should be a great game between both teams Friday night.

I look for both teams to really get after one another and perform at a very high level.

Both teams are amazing and incredible, and this figures to be one heck of a game.

I think a low scoring, defensive battle favors North Bend Central while an up and down the floor game tempo wise with high scoring favors Oakland-Craig.

Making layups and easy shots at the basket and converting will be big for the Tigers.

North Bend Central has to get the ball inside and use their size on the Knights.

Oakland-Craig's post players probably need to be pretty sound in order for the Knights to win so the Tigers have to try and be disruptive down low.

It's a matchup of great guards against great post players.

Oakland-Craig has some really good guards and solid post players while North Bend Central has some very talented post players and some solid guards as well.

The game figures to come down to the wire, and could be a lot like Saturday's BRLD/Oakland-Craig game.

We will soon find out.

The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.

If you are going to go the game I suggest you get there early as there figures to be a huge crowd for sure.
