Team: Bancroft-Rosalie-Lyons-Decatur
Mascot: Wolverines
Colors: UCLA Blue, Black, and Gold
Class: C-2
Conference: East Husker
Head Coach: Cory Meyer (7th season) (136-28 record)
2019-2020 record: 29-0 (Won State)
Returning Starters: 2
Overview:
The BRLD Boys look to continue to be good after winning back-to-back State Titles, including a perfect 29-0 undefeated season last year.
The Wolverines return just two starters from last year, however, and they are Lucas Vogt (6'0, SR G) and Dylan Beutler (6'4, SR Post).
Other returners include Derek Petersen (6'0, SR Post), Micah Henschen (5'11, SR G), and Zach Hegge (6'2, SR Post).
Some top newcomers include Caden Hansen (5'11, JR G), Elliot Nottleman (6'2, SO G), Isaiah Snyder (5'11, SR G), and Toriano Bohannon Jr. (6'0, SR G).
Many are possibly thinking the Wolverines could have a drop off this year, and they could, but I still expect BRLD to be very good and competitive.
The Wolverines always have kids who can ball, and I don't look for this year to be any different.
7th year Head Coach Cory Meyer says the pandemic has thrown a curveball their way. "We didn't get near as many games in this summer as we usually get in because of Covid but it was nice to get a few (4) games in. It stinks that we don't really know what's going to happen as it will be a day by day situation. "
I honestly think this season has to kind of be a wait and see approach.
Prepare as if things are going to be played, but be ready for anything to happen at a moment's notice.
Season Outlook:
The BRLD Boys, like everyone else, will be playing in front of just immediate household family members with 25% gym capacity at all games.
Coach Meyer says his team doesn't necessarily like it, but they're familiar with it. "What will it be like playing in front of just immediate household members? It'll feel like it did in last year's state tournament. It's unfortunate that we can't pack our gyms like before, but I'm just glad the players can play right now."
I think there will be a season it's just a matter of what it looks like exactly.
Coach Meyer feels the team could do some really special things this year. "I'm very excited to get the season underway. I think we have a great group of players and could have a great season. We just need time and experience for those who didn't see much action last season. The potential is there, only time will tell."
I think it's one of those things where it might take a few games, or the first half of the season, for everyone to be playing up to their potential.
I think once this team starts clicking though they will be very tough to beat.
Coach Meyer adds he's ready to get things going. "Very excited to get the season started. I think we will have another good year. How good is yet to be determined."
The Wolverines are in Sub-District C2-4 with Ponca, Omaha Nation, Wakefield, and Tri County Northeast.
That should be a pretty good and competitive Sub-District I would think.
A long ways to go before we get to that point though.

Overview:
The BRLD Girls look to build off last year's State Tournament Berth and have an even bigger season this year.
The Wolverines return their top three scorers, and their projected starting lineup is Caragan Tietz SR. 5’9” G 11.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.5 apg. 1st Team All-Conf. 2nd Team All-State, Jordan Snyder JR 6’2” C 11.8 ppg. 7.0 rpg 3rd Team All-Conf. HM All State, Isabel Freemont SR 5’8 G 9.8 ppg, 3 rpg, 2.2 apg HM All Conf., Aubrey Berg SR 5’5” G 2.5 ppg, and Alyssa Buchholz JR 5’9” G 6.0 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.2 apg.
9th year Head Coach Rod Peters tells KTIC Sports the Coronavirus Pandemic has affected his team just like it has everyone else. "Unfortunately, because of the pandemic we were unable to as many things this summer as we are used to doing. We were able to go to one camp. Otherwise, we held open gyms and girls did a great job of getting in the weight room. So far practices having been going well. We were a little behind at the beginning because of the shortened summer. We are slowly getting back to where we need to be at this time of the season."
It certainly sounds like the Wolverines are behind the 8 ball a little bit, but I totally expect BRLD to catch up and find their groove at some point.
Coach Peters says his team has a lot of potential this year. "I believe we will be very competitive again this year. We have a good nucleus returning. I am looking for some of the younger girls to step up and fill the rolls of those who graduated last year. We return our top 3 scorers from last year’s team. We will have to improve defensively if we want to make that next jump."
Hopefully the Wolverines can have a season just like everybody else because BRLD should have a very good and fine team this year.
I really feel like there will be some sort of a season it's just a matter of how and what it looks like.
Season Outlook:
The BRLD Girls, just like everyone else, will be playing in front of just immediate household family members and 25% gym capacity.
Coach Peters says having the opportunity to play is what matters most. "I just want there to be a season for the girls. They have worked hard they deserve the chance to play. With the ability to Striv people still have the opportunity to watch games."
This is true plus people can also listen to games on 107.9 the Bull.
So can the Wolverines meet and exceed expectations? I certainly think so, and feel it could be a very special season for BRLD.
Coach Peters says the girls are hungry and ready to get after things. "The girls have been excited to get the season started. After the success we had last year we hope to build on that success. We have a long ways to go, but the girls are working hard and I am excited for them."
There's certainly a lot of hard work to be put in for the Wolverines if they are to get where they want, but I totally expect BRLD to work their tails off and be relentless this year.
I'm excited to see how the Wolverines do in their journey towards another State run.
BRLD is in Sub-District C2-4 with Pender, Wakefield, and Omaha Nation.
The Pendragons should be very good, and I wouldn't be surprised if that Sub-District came down to those two just like things came down to those two in Volleyball Sub-Districts.
