Team: Logan View/Scribner-Snyder
Mascot: Raiders
Colors: Blue and Gold
Class: C-1
Conference: Nebraska Capitol
Head Coach: Jake Scheef (1st season)
2019-2020 record: 17-9 (Lost to Wayne in Sub-District Final)
Returning Starters: 5
Overview:
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys are under the direction of former Assistant and First Year Head Coach Jake Scheef, who takes over for Sean Forbes, who accepted a position at Wahoo.
All 5 starters from last year's 17-9 team return for Coach Scheef, and they are Garrett Kriete (6'9, SR F), Connor Larson (5'11, SR G), Riley Hoetfelker (6'2, SR G), Jake Hagerbaumer (6'4, SR G), and Brett Uhing (5'11, SR F).
6th man Jayden Korman (6'3, SR F), returns as does Kayl Francis (5'10, JR G) and Alex Meyer (6'5, JR F).
Coach Scheef has this preseason assessment of his team. "Lots of length. Defense and rebounding should be our strengths. Need to find ways to score. Return 6 guys with starting experience and a very senior heavy team. Should be a fringe top 10 team."
Coach Scheef adds Kriete is a player to watch out for this year. "Garrett Kriete has been receiving D2 interest and should continue as he has grown into his body and really improved over the past year."
I think he has to dominate inside and block shots and score and be very effective on both ends of the floor for the Raiders to get over the hump and threshold this year.
Coach Scheef says starting practice felt pretty normal despite the pandemic. "It looks a lot different with the protocols and the masks but when it comes down to it, I thought the first day of practice went like a typical first day of practice. It was nice to get in the gym and have some normalcy and practice felt like that. The team is excited to be back to work and are looking forward to the season! "
I think the Raiders have everything it takes to be a State Team this season.
Season Outlook:
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Boys look to make their first State Tournament Appearance in School History.
It could very well happen too, but if it does it may be in front of just immediate household members given the current DHM's.
Coach Scheef says playing is the most important thing even if that means having to adapt and adjust. "It will definitely be different without the crowd and I know our guys are disappointed that they can't play in front of large crowds just yet, but we'll just have to create our own energy and come together as a team. If not having crowds means we get to continue on with our season then it is worth the cost."
Coach Scheef adds the team is anxious and excited to get going whenever that may be. "It has been a blast with the team and coaches. There were a lot of times since last season ended where I wasn't feeling so optimistic about the season so for November 16th to finally get here is awesome. We've got a great group of guys with a lot of returning experience so we've been waiting for this season to get here for a while. We're just going to take it a day at a time and control what we can control."
The Raiders are in Sub-District C1-7 with West Point-Beemer, Winnebago, and Wayne.
It's definitely the time for LVSS to make history there's no doubt about that.

Head Coach: Erin Johnson (1st season)
2019-2020 record: 5-18 (Lost to West Point-Beemer in Sub-Districts)
Returning Starters: 4
Overview:
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls are also under new leadership as former Assistant and First Year Head Coach Erin Johnson takes over the program, replacing Nick Hegge.
Four starters return for Coach Johnson, and they are Valerie Uehling (5'5, SR PG), Josie Kahlandt (5'6, SR SG), Cailey Stout (5'7, JR Post), and Maelee Beacom (5'7, JR F).
Other returning letterwinners and newcomers include Karlie Hansen (5'5, JR G), Grace Schlueter (5'9, SO F), Sophia Vacha (5'9, SO P), Cadynce Stockamp (5'7, SO G), Brooklyn Reynolds (5'7, JR G), and Ellie Smith (5'7, SR P).
Coach Johnson says Uehling and Kahlandt have to be leaders and lead by example for the young players. "We have two seniors who have played a lot of varsity minutes and we’ll rely on them heavily for their leadership and scoring. Lots of underclassmen who have the opportunity to step in and fill a role. We have the ability to make some big strides this season, just need to build our confidence and continue to get better everyday."
I feel like the Raiders have a chance to be much improved given all the talent they have coming up.
LVSS will be young, but mighty I feel.
Coach Johnson says the Girls have made the most of the current situation. "The Coronavirus has caused lots of adjustments, but our players and coaches have done a great job of rolling with the punches and being flexible with the ever-changing situations. We had to get creative during the offseason and utilized Zoom for meetings, team bonding activities and workouts. The girls did a great job of putting in individual work for our summer shooting challenge and we hope to see that pay off this season. As we get ready for the season, we’re taking all the safety precautions seriously and doing everything we can to ensure as normal of a season as possible. I’m proud of our girls and their willingness to do whatever it takes to play."
It sounds like the Raiders have kept things very positive and loose, and that is always a good thing.
Season Outlook:
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Girls look to be much improved this season.
Perhaps playing in gyms with just immediate household members and 25% capacity will allow the Raiders to just go out there and play and not feel any pressure.
Coach Johnson says they'll make the most of the situation. "It’ll be different not having a full crowd at our games, but we’re just happy to be playing. Obviously we’ll miss the fans, but with the ability to livestream, family and friends can still root for us from a far. We’ll rely on ourselves to create our own energy and enthusiasm, which we do everyday in practice."
It sure sounds like LVSS is making the most of this situation that we are all in, which in turn could mean making the most of themselves as student athletes and on the hardwood this season and in the future.
I feel like the Raiders have the potential to be very successful this year and in the future.
Coach Johnson says her team is chomping at the bit to get things underway. "To say we’re excited to get going would be an understatement. We’ve been looking forward to this for a long time, and we’re glad it’s finally here. Now, we’ve just got to keep everyone healthy and follow our protocols to ensure a full season!"
LVSS is in Sub-District C1-5 with West Point-Beemer, Oakland-Craig, North Bend Central, and Arlington.
