Pender Boys off to 1-1 start; Girls 2-0

The Pender Boys lost 60-33 at home to Wakefield Thursday night before beating Tekamah-Herman 45-34 on the road Friday night.

The Trojans led the Pendragons 17-4 after one. Wakefield outscored Pender 15-9 in the second quarter to take a 32-13 lead into the locker room.

The Trojans won the third quarter 10-9 to make it a 42-22 game after three.

Wakefield notched 18 points in the fourth quarter compared to 11 for the Pendragons.

James Bensen had 8 points while Dylan Roth totaled 7.

I thought Pender did a nice job responding following the loss to the Trojans. The Pendragons showed a lot of resolve and moxie in beating the Tigers, in my opinion.

Pender (1-1) hosts Oakland-Craig (1-2) Friday night.

The Knights topped Clarkson/Leigh 80-37 at home Tuesday night.

Oakland-Craig certainly played well against the Patriots, and you can bet the Knights will bring their best again Friday night.

The Pendragons are going to need to be on top of their game to come away with a win I think.

Pender can't afford to get off to the kind of start they got off against Wakefield.

The Pendragons have to start off strong, and play well for four quarters.

Pender has to make a statement early, and punch Oakland-Craig in the mouth.

The Pendragons have to be aggressive on offense and defense, and play physical.

Pender has to pressure the ball, and get into the faces of the Knights' guards.

Perhaps more important than that though is the offense.

I feel the Pendragons need a breakout performance offensively to get over the hump against Oakland-Craig.

The Knights are a strong enough offensive team that they can outscore people, and have gotten better defensively.

Still though I feel there is a lot of opportunity for Pender to play well offensively.

The Pendragons also need to focus on shutting down driving lanes defensively.

Oakland-Craig can shoot though so Pender also has to contest shots.

I think the Pendragons are also going to need to limit the Knights' transition opportunities to come out in front Friday night.

I feel like Oakland-Craig probably has the upper hand in this game, but I think Pender can compete with the game being on their home floor.

It should be an interesting game, and can be heard on 107.9 the Bull after the girls game, which is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m.

The Pender Girls are 2-0 so far this season, defeating Wakefield 49-27 at home Thursday night, and Tekamah-Herman 54-33 on the road Friday night.

The Pendragons led the Tigers 14-4 at the end of one. Pender won the second quarter 13-7 to take a 27-11 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 9 points in the third quarter, and the score at the end of three was 36-20 in favor of the Pendragons.

Pender outscored Tekamah-Herman 18-13 in the fourth quarter.

The Pendragons are off to a fantastic start. You couldn't ask for a better start to the season if you are Pender.

The Pendragons (2-0) square off with Oakland-Craig (3-0) at home Friday night.

The Knights downed Clarkson/Leigh 47-43 at home Tuesday night.

Oakland-Craig has yet to play a real quality opponent this year, but the Knights are still a good team.

I would say the key to beating them is slowing down Dacey Nelson.

If Pender can slow her down and make someone else beat them they should be in good shape.

The Pendragons have to keep playing the kind of defense they have been, and continue to improve and grow as a team offensively.

Pender has a chance to have a big season, in my opinion, and a win over Oakland-Craig would be huge.

The Pendragons will have had all week to prepare for the Knights so Pender should be ready to go Friday night.

The Pendragons have four games next week, but the biggest thing for Pender is to focus on one game at a time and not make one game bigger than another.

The Pendragons have to bring their "A" game Friday night, and be ready to battle for four quarters.

You can bet Oakland-Craig will come ready to play, and will perform at a high level, so Pender has to do the same.

I give the Pendragons the edge in this game, especially with it being on their home floor, but the Knights have stolen games from teams before, and I could honestly see that happening in this game too.

I don't think it will happen when it comes down to it, but the opportunity is there for Oakland-Craig.

Pender has to come out smart and aggressive, and have that killer instinct to put the Knights away.

Neither team has been in a close game so far this year, but I think that could change Friday night. I think this game will be close.

Making open shots and hitting free throws will be big for both teams, in my opinion.

Listen to the action on 107.9 the Bull with tip-off at 6:15 p.m.
