Wisner-Pilger Boys and Girls start seasons 1-1

The Wisner-Pilger Boys are off to a 1-1 start, losing 55-35 to GACC on Friday, but beating Emerson-Hubbard 72-25 on Saturday. Both games were a part of the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.

GACC led the Gators 12-10 after one. The Bluejays doubled up Wisner-Pilger 14-7 in the second quarter to take a 26-17 lead into the locker room.

GACC outscored the Gators 13-6 in the third quarter to go up 39-23 at the end of three.

The Bluejays won the fourth quarter 16-12.

Wisner-Pilger led the Pirates 21-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Gators tripled up Emerson-Hubbard 28-7 in the second quarter to take a 49-13 lead into the locker room.

Wisner-Pilger outscored Emerson-Hubbard 13-9 in the third quarter to lead 62-22 at the end of three.

The Gators won the fourth quarter 10-3.

I thought Wisner-Pilger did a great job of bouncing back against the Pirates after losing to GACC the way they did.

The Gators (1-1) take on Tekamah-Herman (0-2) at home Friday night.

The Tigers lost 45-34 at home to Pender Friday night.

Tekamah-Herman has had a tough time scoring this year, but their defense hasn't been too bad.

Still though Wisner-Pilger should be able to come away with a win.

The Gators have to play smart and aggressive basketball, and pass the ball around for good, open shots.

Wisner-Pilger has to get in transition as much as possible, and force the Tigers to play at a faster pace.

I think Tekamah-Herman would rather play a slower game than a faster game, which is why the Gators need to look to push the pace as much as possible.

Wisner-Pilger has to try and get the Tigers' players in foul trouble, and force Tekamah-Herman to play backups more than they would like.

The Tigers are low on numbers again, but the Gators can't feel sorry for Tekamah-Herman or show them remorse.

Wisner-Pilger has to take the fight to the Tigers for four quarters, and play really good basketball Friday night.

The Gators really need this game with games against Oakland-Craig and Wayne coming up next week.

This is an absolute must win for Wisner-Pilger. There's no way around it. The Gators need to win this game.

I fully expect Wisner-Pilger to win and take care of business. I don't think the Gators will have much trouble downing Tekamah-Herman.

Wisner-Pilger needs to play well and build a big lead though so they can get other players experience.

This game has to be a total and complete team effort and performance that results in a big win. The last thing the Gators can afford to have with the Tigers is a close game.

Wisner-Pilger needs to win soundly and get everyone a good amount of playing time.

The Wisner-Pilger Girls are also off to a 1-1 start, topping Lutheran High Northeast 43-35 on Thursday in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic before falling 4-39 to GACC on Saturday, also in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.

The Gators jumped out to a 12-2 lead on the Eagles at the end of the first quarter. Both teams scored 10 points in the second quarter, and the halftime score was 22-12 in favor of Wisner-Pilger.

Lutheran High Northeast won the third quarter 12-10 to make it a 32-24 game after three.

Both teams scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.

The Gators held an 11-10 lead over the Bluejays at the end of one. GACC outscored Wisner-Pilger 12-8 in the second quarter to take a 22-19 lead into the locker room.

The Bluejays won the third quarter 15-14 to make it a 37-33 game at the end of three.

GACC scored 7 points in the fourth quarter and held the Gators to 6.

One quarter was the difference in both games for Wisner-Pilger...one quarter being good for the Gators, the other hurting them.

Wisner-Pilger (1-1) takes on Tekamah-Herman (1-2) at home Friday night.

The Tigers beat DC West 48-19 at home Tuesday night.

I think the Gators have a shot to win Friday night, but this should be a close game.

Wisner-Pilger has to focus on slowing down Marin Jetensky and Jess Fleischman.

They are Tekamah-Herman's best players, and so the Gators have to be committed to excellent play on the defensive end, especially when guarding either of them.

If Wisner-Pilger can slow those two down and keep them in check then they should be in good shape.

The thing the Gators need to do is force other players to beat them.

Wisner-Pilger's offense also has to get going though.

The Gators haven't been the strongest team offensively this season, and that quite honestly needs to change for Wisner-Pilger to get over the hump and win.

I look for Friday night's game to be close and hotly contested, and I see the game being in the 30's or 40's for scoring.

I look for it to be another game that's decided in single digits, and it wouldn't surprise me if the game was decided by 5 points or less.

I think limiting turnovers and converting free throws will be big for both teams.

I feel the team that does the better job of executing will have the best chance to come out on top.

This is a big game for the Gators with Oakland-Craig and Wayne coming up next week.

I give Wisner-Pilger the advantage with the game being on their home floor, but the Tigers are a quality team.

I would be awfully surprised if this game was a blowout one way or the other.

I think this game could come down to the final minutes with the team that makes the big play and/or avoids the big mistake winning.

There's not a lot of margin for error for either team really so both teams need to play well to give themselves a chance.
