BRLD Boys and Girls beat Clarkson/Leigh

The BRLD Boys Basketball Team topped Clarkson/Leigh 64-22 in action heard on 107.9 the Bull Friday night.

BRLD jumped out to a 19-4 lead after one, and outscored the Patriots 15-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-10 lead into the locker room.

The Wolverines outsored Clarkson/Leigh 28-5 in the 3rd quarter and to lead 62-15 at the end of three in a game that had a running clock.

The Patriots won the 4th quarter 7-2.

Jaxon Johnson led BRLD with 17 points while Darwin Snyder totaled 15. Hunter Ferguson and Kenyan Lovejoy added 10 and 9, respectively.

Great game for the Wolverines. BRLD took care of business like one might of expected them to.

BRLD (4-0) hosts Howells-Dodge (3-2) Friday night.

The Jaguars lost 49-45 at Oakland-Craig on Saturday.

Head Coach Cory Meyer says the Jaguars have some very talented players. "They got the number 4 Connor Blum kid. And he's smooth. He knows how to score. He knows how to get you in foul trouble too. He's just a very smart kid. And they've got probably one of the most underrated posts in our conference in No.44 the Hegemann kid. And he's tough. Cole Christoffersen and him battled it out last year at their place, and it was a fun game to watch. Just watching those two go at it. So it'll be a tough game, very tough."

The Wolverines have ample practice time for this contest with the Howells-Dodge, and I look for BRLD to play well and turn in a good game.

The Wolverines can really focus in on the Jaguars and get ready for them with only one other game on the schedule until Christmas.

I think it's a good thing BRLD doesn't have a ton of games left before the Holiday Break, especially given the youth on this team.

It's not information overload or too much at once for this Wolverines' squad.

BRLD can rest and get their bodies ready for these next couple of games, and not have to worry about playing a ton of games over the next couple weeks.

The Wolverines have to enjoy this down time while they can though because things really pick up for BRLD in January.

This game with the Jaguars and next Thursday's contest with Ponca figure to be very tough for the Wolverines.

I think we will learn a lot about BRLD in these next couple of ball games.

The Wolverines are 4-0, but 3 of their wins are against teams with losing records, and two of those teams haven't won a game yet.

That's not to take anything away from BRLD because I feel the Wolverines are a really good team, but we won't know a lot about just how good BRLD is until Friday next next Thursday, in my opinion.

I look for the Wolverines to be well prepared for both games, and perhaps pick up wins in both contests.

The BRLD Girls Basketball team topped Clarkson/Leigh 50-39 at home Friday night in a game heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Wolverines took a 15-6 lead after one before the Patriots doubled up BRLD 18-9 in the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 24 thanks to a Kaegan Held buzzer beater at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 10-9, and the score after 3 was 34-33 in favor of the Patriots.

The Wolverines saved their best for last, outscoring Clarkson/Leigh 17-5 in the final stanza.

Vicki Gatzemeyer had 20 points to lead all scorers while Mariah Petersen and Kelsey Larsen totaled 10 and 9, respectively.

BRLD Head Coach Rod Peters says Larsen came alive in the 4th quarter. "She did a really nice job. Coach Wegner about halfway through the 4th quarter he wanted to sub out Kelsey, put somebody else in, and I said let her go here. And I think she got three steals in a row. And she did an excellent job. She struggled in practice the other night, and good players, after they struggle for a while, they come back and play really well. I'm extremely proud of her tonight."

The Wolverines (3-1) host Howells-Dodge (3-2) Friday night.

The Jaguars won 56-43 at Oakland-Craig on Saturday.

This should be a very close, compelling, and entertaining ball game.

I was very impressed with BRLD's win over Clarkson/Leigh, and have been impressed with Howells-Dodge so far this year too.

The Jaguars let one get away against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in losing 37-36 on a Brittney Veik buzzer beater.

You know Howells-Dodge will come ready to play, and will give the Wolverines all they can handle.

I'm sure it will be the Jaguars' mindset to try and give BRLD fits, and make life difficult on Gatzemeyer and others.

If the Wolverines can get 20+ from Gatzemeyer and double digits from a couple others they should put themselves in a good position to win.

I feel BRLD will turn in a great performance Friday night like they did against the Patriots, and perhaps pull out a win.

I think things will be tight and can really go either way like many other matchups in this conference.

I think the Wolverines have a good chance to win seeing as they're at home, but that doesn't always mean everything either.

BRLD has to come out fired up and raring to go from the get go.

The Wolverines have to play with passion, pride, mental and physical toughness, tenacity, grit, fire, determination, outstanding hustle, and heart.

BRLD has to want it more than Howells-Dodge, and has to keep fighting and battling no matter what.

I thought the Wolverines did a great job sticking with it against Clarkson/Leigh, which led to the big 4th quarter.

I also think that's something BRLD is going to need to do to come out on top against the Jaguars.

I feel the game is going to be a 4 quarter game, and won't be decided until the end.

Execution and smart play is going to be important for the Wolverines I feel as is running the floor and creating turnovers.
