West Point-Beemer Boys fall to North Bend Central and Howells-Dodge; Girls lose to Tigers, beat Jaguars

The West Point-Beemer Boys Basketball Team has hit a tough stretch, losing 65-56 at home to North Bend Central last Thursday night, and 62-40 at Howells-Dodge Tuesday night.

The Tigers led the Cadets 19-15 after one. Both teams scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter, and the score at halftime was 35-31 in favor of North Bend Central.

The Tigers outscored West Point-Beemer 16-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 51-37 at the end of three.

The Cadets won the 4th quarter 19-14.

Chase Streeter had 15 points while Cole Hughes totaled 12 points and 7 rebounds. Ben VanderGriend added 9 points.

The Jaguars leaped out to a 17-10 lead at the end of one. West Point-Beemer won the 2nd quarter 13-7 to make it a 24-23 game at halftime.

Howells-Dodge had a big 3rd quarter, outscoring the Cadets 18-4 in the frame to lead 42-27 at the end of three.

The Jaguars notched 20 points in the 4th quarter compared to 13 for West Point-Beemer.

Hughes had a team-high 9 points while Hunter Pilakowski totaled 8.

Difficult times for the Cadets right now. West Point-Beemer really need to get some momentum back on their side.

The Cadets (2-3) host Fort Calhoun (0-6) Thursday night.

The Pioneers lost 38-35 at Plattsmouth Tuesday night.

This is exactly who West Point-Beemer needs to see right now.

The Cadets are really struggling as is Fort Calhoun, but this should be a big win for West Point-Beemer.

The Cadets have to come out and smash the Pioneers, not just beat them.

West Point-Beemer has to play tough, hard nosed, basketball.

The Cadets have to attack the basket strong and aggressively, and must box out, rebound, and contest shots with authority.

West Point-Beemer is capable of playing better than they have been so far.

The Cadets have to win this one big to get back on track.

3-3 isn't the most ideal record heading into the Holiday Break for this team, but it's the best West Point-Beemer can do at this point.

The Cadets have to play well and set the stage for the Holiday Tournament.

West Point-Beemer ought to have a good chance to do something in the Wayne Holiday Tournament.

The Cadets should expect to win that and every other game and tournament they play in the rest of the season.

West Point-Beemer has to expect to win every game, and has to play to win and not not to lose.

Not that the Cadets have been playing not to lose, but the Cadets have to be better than they have been so far this season.

The Cadets have to light a fire under one another, and play better. West Point-Beemer has to play above themselves and hold each other accountable for mistakes.

The Cadets have to forget about what's taken place so far this year, and come out and play better ball starting Thursday night.

The West Point-Beemer Girls Basketball Team lost 49-35 at home last Thursday night to North Bend Central before topping Howells-Dodge 54-40 on the road Tuesday night.

The Tigers jumped out to an 11-2 lead on the Cadets at the end of one. West Point-Beemer won the 2nd quarter 9-8 to make it a 19-11 game at halftime.

The Cadets put up 13 points in the 3rd quarter compared to 12 for North Bend Central to get within 7 at 31-24 at the end of three.

The Tigers outscored West Point-Beemer 18-11 in the 4th quarter.

Makenna Weddle and Brittney Hinkel had 10 points apiece to pace the Cadets.

The Cadets led the Jaguars 17-8 after one. West Point-Beemer won the 2nd quarter 19-14 to take a 36-22 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars doubled up the Cadets 14-7 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 43-36 game at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer outscored Howells-Dodge 11-4 in the 4th quarter.

Katie Pilakowski had a team-high 11 points while Sidney Swanson registered 10. Hinkel chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Tough loss for the Cadets last Thursday night, but West Point-Beemer did a great job responding against the Jaguars.

The Cadets (3-2) host Fremont Bergan (5-1) Tuesday night.

The Knights beat Boys Town 62-11 at home Thursday night after losing 57-51 at home to Guardian Angels Central Catholic Tuesday night.

This should be a good game.

Bergan has smashed every team they've beaten, and the Cadets have been very good defensively this season.

West Point-Beemer appeared to have gotten their offense back on track on Tuesday night too so that's a good sign for the Cadets.

West Point-Beemer has to come out intense, pumped, psyched, jacked, and fired up, and motivated.

The Cadets have to be determined to beat the Knights, and must come out raring to go from the get go.

West Point-Beemer has to be confident shooting the ball, and must attack the basket hard.

The Cadets also have to play shutdown defense, contesting shots, and rebounding and boxing out as well as possible.

West Point-Beemer's defense has to be suffocating like it has been pretty much all season.

The only big loss for the Cadets so far has been the North Bend Central game.

Otherwise West Point-Beemer is playing good basketball.

The Cadets simply don't matchup well with the Tigers.

Bergan appears to be small so that's a good thing for West Point-Beemer.

The Cadets are C-1 while Bergan is C-2, and most of the time the bigger school wins.

I think if West Point-Beemer plays like they did against Howells-Dodge they will win.

But if the Cadets have another cold shooting night like they did against Stanton and North Bend Central then they very well could lose.
