Emerson-Hubbard Boys fall to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Waltill; Girls lose to Bears, beat Blujays
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team lost 82-40 at home to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Friday night before falling 73-50 at Walthill Tuesday night.
The Bears jumped out to a 33-11 lead at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter to take a 59-28 lead into the locker room.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored the Pirates 14-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 73-32 at the end of three.
The Bears put up 9 4th quarter points compared to 8 for Emerson-Hubbard.
Jacob Kneifl notched 17 points and 7 rebounds while Joshua Sebade totaled 10 rebounds.
Tough losses for the Pirates, but I thought Emerson-Hubbard played better against the Blujays.
The Pirates (0-5) host Ponca (5-0) Friday night.
The Indians won 88-68 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Tuesday night.
Emerson-Hubbard definitely has their work cut out for them in this one given how good Ponca is.
The Pirates have to continue to play well and must keep stepping up their game though.
I think that has to be the focus for Emerson-Hubbard. Continuing to improve and get better at the game of basketball.
The ultimate focus and goal has to be to win, but that may not happen against the Indians.
The Pirates have to feel uplifted and encouraged by how they played against Walthill, in my opinion.
I know Emerson-Hubbard lost by 23, but I thought that was the best game the Pirates played all year, especially on offense.
Emerson-Hubbard has to use it, and must keep getting better and growing as a team.
Kneifl has to continue his good play as does Sebade.
Other players have to come along nicely and step up and contribute too.
I really think wins and success will come the Pirates' way this season as long as they continue to work hard and stick to it.
Work ethic, attitude, enthusiasm, and energy has to be at an all-time high for this team.
Emerson-Hubbard has to build off what they did against the Blujays, and right the ship.
The Pirates have to remain positive, and continue to have a spirited outlook on the season.
Emerson-Hubbard has to play above themselves and their abilities, and do extraordinary things.
Things like sticking around at practice and taking some extra shots, or doing some extra conditioning drills, can go a long ways in deciding a game or games, in my opinion.
The Pirates have to keep fighting, working hard, and persevering, and need to keep believing that good things will come their way.
I think Emerson-Hubbard showed some signs of life and promise Tuesday night, and I look for the Pirates to take more steps forward and make more strides in the right direction when they take to the floor Friday night.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls Basketball Team lost 45-33 at home to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Friday night before picking up their first win of the season at at Walthill Tuesday night, 52-44.
The Bears doubled up the Pirates 12-6 in the 1st quarter. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won the 2nd quarter 10-9 to take a 22-15 lead into the locker room.
The Bears outscored Emerson-Hubbard 12-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 34-24 at the end of three.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge put up 11 points in the 4th quarter compared to 9 for the Pirates.
Melanie Gentrup recorded 12 points and 7 rebounds while Addison Mackling had 7 points.
Emerson-Hubbard led the Blujays 13-5 after one. Walthill won the 2nd quarter 15-11 to make it a 24-20 game at halftime.
The Pirates outscored the Blujays 18-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 42-28 at the end of three.
Walthill put up 16 points in the 4th quarter compared to 10 for Emerson-Hubbard.
Courtney Bokemper had 26 points and 16 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Gentrup added 11 points while Mackling totaled 7. Taylor Lamp pulled down 10 rebounds.
What a great game from Bokemper and what a great win for the Pirates. It had to be a big relief for Emerson-Hubbard to get the monkey off their back.
The Pirates (1-4) host Ponca (3-3) Friday night.
The Indians won 60-50 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Tuesday night.
I know Emerson-Hubbard lost to the Bears, but if the Pirates play like they did against the Blujays then I think they can definitely give Ponca a run for their money.
Bokemper needs to go off again, and Emerson-Hubbard has to use the momentum they gained from the Walthill win.
Wins like that can be season turning and changing.
I thought it was the Pirates' best game of the season so far.
I think Emerson-Hubbard has played better basketball over the last few games than they did the first couple games of the season.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge appears to be a better and much improved team too so that loss doesn't look too bad I would say.
I think the Pirates can keep this game respectable and compete with the Indians.
Emerson-Hubbard may be low on numbers, but they don't appear to be low on heart or effort.
I thought the Pirates showed a lot of resolve and moxie by beating the Blujays the way they did.
I think that's a credit for Emerson-Hubbard's mental and physical toughness, as well as their ability to put losses behind them.
The Pirates appeared to regroup over the weekend and really got after things Tuesday night.
I look for Emerson-Hubbard to build on what they did against Walthill, and play a respectable game Friday night.
The Pirates may not win, but I think Emerson-Hubbard has a great shot to beat Winside before the Christmas Break.
Anything positive the Pirates can do or gain heading into the game with the Wildcats, the better.
I really think this Emerson-Hubbard team is coming along nicely and improving, and I look for that growth and improvement to continue Friday night.
This is a big game for the Pirates.
