Stanton Boys fall to North Bend Central; Girls beat Tigers
The Stanton Boys Basketball Team lost 59-25 at North Bend Central Tuesday night.
The Tigers jumped out to a 22-8 lead after one, and won the 2nd quarter 12-8 to take a 34-16 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central outscored Stanton 22-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 56-20 at the end of three.
The Tigers notched 13 fourth quarter points compared to 5 for the Mustangs.
Difficult loss for Stanton. North Bend Central is a team to be reckoned with though.
The Mustangs (1-3) host Wakefield (4-1) Friday night.
The Trojans lost 50-41 at Randolph Tuesday night.
That loss has to give Stanton a lot of confidence and hope.
If the Mustangs can play better offense they should have a chance to knock off Wakefield.
Scoring has definitely been an issue for Stanton though.
The Mustangs have to be better scoring the ball and has to defend better as well.
Stanton has to play with a lot of pride, heart, passion, desire, grit, fire, tenacity, and physical and mental toughness.
The Mustangs have to want it more than the Trojans, and have to outhustle and outwork Wakefield.
Stanton has to keep working hard and make sure they do everything in their power to get better.
There's a lot of season left, and the Mustangs have to keep putting in the time and work at practice and in games.
Stanton is very young this year, and it has been a difficult season for the Mustangs thus far, but that doesn't mean that brighter things aren't ahead yet for this ball club.
Stanton has to keep grinding and finding ways to improve their craft and skill every time they take to the floor.
The Mustangs have to play their hearts out and leave everything out on the floor against Wakefield.
Stanton has to give 110% on every play, and must get to the loose balls and 50/50 balls.
The Mustangs have to put everything they've got into this game, and do their best to rebound and bounce back from the loss to the Tigers.
I'm sure it can't be easy to just forget about what happened Tuesday night, but Stanton has to have a quick memory and must simply move on.
The Mustangs can't control the past. All Stanton can do is dictate the future.
The Stanton Girls Basketball Team picked up a big win Tuesday night, winning 35-30 at North Bend Central.
The Tigers led 5-2 after one. Stanton outscored North Bend Central 9-5 in the 2nd quarter to lead 11-10 at halftime.
The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 11-9 to regain the lead at 21-20 at the end of three.
The Mustangs put up 15 points in the 4th quarter compared to 9 for North Bend Central.
Hannah Heppner had 14 points while Jessie Brandl registered 10.
Great win for Stanton. Biggest win of the season so far for the Mustangs without a doubt.
Stanton (4-0) hosts Wakefield (2-3) Friday night.
The Trojans lost 48-17 at Randolph Tuesday night.
This should be an easy win for the Mustangs.
Stanton shouldn't have much trouble with Wakefield whatsoever.
This is a game where the starters and backups should be able to get some good work in.
It's important for the Mustangs to be fresh and get tuned up for the rest of their games before the Holiday Break.
Stanton has Pender on Saturday, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Tuesday, and Wisner-Pilger on Thursday so it's important for the Mustangs to be sharp in this game, and take care of business early so the starters can get rested and get ready for the stretch run before Christmas.
Heppner and Brandl have to have big games for Stanton as does Bree Burtwhistle.
This should be a good game for Burtwhistle to get back to form.
The Mustangs definitely need her to produce a lot over the next handful of ball games and for the rest of the season.
The North Bend Central win was great, but Stanton can't dwell and be hungover with it.
The Mustangs have to regather and refocus themselves on beating Wakefield.
Championship Teams are focused no matter who the opponent, and Stanton is definitely one of those teams, in my opinion.
I think the one thing you can say about this Mustangs squad is that they're always ready to play.
Stanton should turn in a great performance Friday night and win easily.
The Mustangs just have to take things one game at a time and be focused on beating the Trojans.
Stanton has to be ready to play a complete game, and must play well from start to finish, and get a lot of girls playing time.
