Emerson-Hubbard Boys and Girls lose to Bloomfield
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team lost 52-25 at home to Bloomfield Friday night.
The Bees led 17-5 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 11-6 to take a 28-11 lead into the locker room.
Bloomfield outscored the Pirates 14-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 42-15 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 10 points in the 4th quarter.
Nolan Belt finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Tough start to the season for Emerson-Hubbard.
The Pirates (0-1) host Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (2-0) Friday night.
The Bears beat Homer 77-53 at home Tuesday night.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is a good team, and the schedule is tough for Emerson-Hubbard, but somehow, someway the Pirates have to find a way to persevere.
Emerson-Hubbard has to find a way to overcome their tough break in the opener.
The Pirates have to find their scoring touch and solidify their defense.
It's only the first game of the season so Emerson-Hubbard shouldn't worry too much right now, but the pre-Christmas Holiday Schedule is extremely difficult.
The Pirates have to narrow the scoring gap from game one to game two and perform better against the Bears.
Emerson-Hubbard shouldn't concede anything, but a 1-4 start prior to Christmas is a very realistic possibility for the Pirates.
What you hope to see this coming Friday though is improvement and for Emerson-Hubbard to compete hard and play well.
I don't think the Bloomfield game was a good indicator of just how good the Pirates really are though.
I feel Emerson-Hubbard is a better team than what they showed Friday night, and will show that against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
The Pirates need to have a good strong effort against the Bears, and continue to improve and get better all while trying to win.
Emerson-Hubbard can't accept losing, and losing by 27 like they did in their opener.
The Pirates can and should be better, and I'm sure they realize that.
I fully expect Emerson-Hubbard to make the proper changes and adjustments prior to Friday night's game.
Having had an entire week to practice and prepare for the Bears should help the Pirates out as well.
I look for Emerson-Hubbard to go out there and have a strong showing, and compete hard and well Friday night.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls Basketball Team lost 63-21 at home to Bloomfield Friday night.
The Bees went up 22-8 at the end of one, and outscored the Pirates 11-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-11 lead into the locker room.
Bloomfield won the 3rd quarter 11-4 to increase their lead to 44-15 at the end of three.
The Bees outscored Emerson-Hubbard 19-6 in the 4th quarter.
Addison Mackling led all scorers with 17 points.
Good individual performance from her.
The Pirates (0-1) play host to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (1-1) Friday night.
The Bears beat Homer 50-46 at home Tuesday night.
Emerson-Hubbard is very young and low on numbers once again with only 11 girls out for the team so the Pirates could have an uphill battle and challenge on their hands once again.
Mackling needs to have another strong individual performance, and her teammates have to step up and help her.
Emerson-Hubbard also needs to turn in a strong defensive performance, and make life difficult on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
I think the Pirates have a chance to do well and compete in this game.
Winning doesn't figure to come easy, but I wouldn't put it past Emerson-Hubbard to find a way to win.
It may or may not happen, but the most important thing is for these girls to learn, have fun, grow, and get better.
A lot of these girls are freshmen and sophomores, and not very experienced.
That means players like Mackling and Isabella Parker-Diaz have to really step up and lead this team and put it on their shoulders.
Mackling did that in the first game of the year, but she needs help.
Those two along with Clara Harvey have to try and mold the freshmen and sophomores into solid, key contributors.
The Pirates have to play with intensity, toughness, pride, passion, grit, fire, and tenacity.
Emerson-Hubbard has to show a lot of fight and must be poised to go out there and play good basketball.
This team is capable of doing anything they put their minds to if proper leadership is applied and improvements are made and shown.
It's going to take a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice for the Pirates to do well and win this season, but it can definitely happen with the right work ethic and attitude.
