Stanton Boys 1-2 so far this season; Girls 0-3

The Stanton Boys Basketball Team lost 49-35 at home to Howells-Dodge in Friday's season opener before winning 40-37 at Tekamah-Herman on Saturday on a TJ Larson buzzer beating three-pointer in action aired on 107.9 the Bull, and then fell 44-43 at West Point-Beemer Tuesday night on a last second shot.

The Jaguars and Mustangs were tied at 13 at the end of one before Howells-Dodge outscored Stanton 15-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-22 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars won the 3rd quarter 9-7 to go up 37-29 at the end of three.

Howells-Dodge doubled up the Mustangs 12-6 in the 4th quarter.

Larson had 14 points while Parker Krusemark totaled 8.

Stanton tripled up Tekamah-Herman 12-4 in the first quarter. The Mustangs went scoreless in the 2nd quarter, but still led the Tigers 12-10 at halftime.

Stanton went on a 13-0 run in the 3rd quarter to go up 28-15, and led 28-18 at the end of three.

The Mustangs led 36-27 in the 4th quarter before Tekamah-Herman went on a 9-0 run to tie the game in the final stanza.

The game was tied at 37 with 4.1 seconds left when Larson threw up his desperation heave that went in at the buzzer.

Larson led Stanton with a game-high 24 points and totaled 13 rebounds to post a double-double while Mason Bruggeman added 9 points and 14 rebounds.

The Cadets led the Mustangs 7-6 at the end of one. Stanton outscored West Point-Beemer 14-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-15 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs outscored the Cadets 19-11 in the 3rd quarter to go up 39-26 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer outscored Stanton 18-4 in the 4th quarter to rally for the win.

Larson and Krusemark each had 17 points.

Larson, Krusemark, and Bruggeman are playing well for the Mustangs right now.

Stanton (1-2) takes on Battle Creek (2-1) on the road Friday night.

The Braves defeated Central Valley 66-51 on the road Tuesday night.

Battle Creek is definitely beatable.

I think the Mustangs can hang in there and battle with the Braves.

Battle Creek hasn't been super dominant so far this year, and I think Stanton can do well against them.

Wayne is a solid team who the Braves beat in their season opener though.

Battle Creek's only loss is a 3-pointer to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

So the Braves are solid, but not great.

If Stanton can figure some things out offensively they should be good to go Friday night.

Larson, Krusemark, and Bruggeman have to keep doing great things offensively for the Mustangs.

Those three all have to simply get it going on the same night.

I feel this team could be in business if that happens.

Stanton is really close to being 2-1 this season, and easily could be at that mark.

These next three games will really test the Mustangs I feel.

Stanton has Wakefield and North Bend Central next week, and then plays Pender on December 21st.

The Mustangs have to do their best to compete with the Braves, Trojans, and Tigers.

The game against the Pendragons is a must win heading into the Holidays, in my opinion.

Stanton has to keep working hard and improving, and must bounce back from the loss to the Cadets.

The Mustangs have to be resilient and must play with and show the heart of a champion Friday night.

Stanton needs to go into the Battle Creek game with a nothing to lose attitude.

The Mustangs have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain, and need to simply play fearless.

The Stanton Girls lost 39-26 at home to Howells-Dodge in Friday night's season opener before falling 30-24 at Tekamah-Herman on Saturday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull, and then losing 49-30 at West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.

The Mustangs led the Jaguars 18-16 at halftime.

Howells-Dodge outscored Stanton 11-4 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 27-22 at the end of three.

The Jaguars tripled up the Mustangs 12-4 in the 4th quarter.

Savannah Siebrandt had 7 points.

The Tigers led Saturday's game 8-7 at the end of one before the game was tied at 13 at halftime.

Stanton went up 19-15 in the 3rd quarter and eventually led 21-20 at the end of three.

Tekamah-Herman saved their best for last though, outscoring the Mustangs 10-3 in the 4th quarter to earn their first win of the season.

Stanton was led by Sylvia Cunningham, who led all scorers with 10 points had 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double.

The Cadets went up 16-2 on the Mustangs at the end of one. West Point-Beemer outscored Stanton 11-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-6 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets doubled up the Mustangs 14-7 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 41-13 at the end of three.

Stanton won the 4th quarter 17-8.

Cunningham had 9 points and 7 rebounds.

It has been a slow start to the season for the Mustangs.

Stanton (0-3) takes on Battle Creek (2-1) on the road Friday night.

The Bravettes won 63-16 at Central Valley Tuesday night.

Battle Creek also lost by 18 to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

I think the Mustangs can do well in this game if they can manufacture some offense.

So far Stanton has been held to 30 points or less in all three games.

It's just tough to win games when being held down offensively.

The Bravettes can score, and they're not too bad defensively either.

The game is in Battle Creek, and figures to be tough and difficult for the Mustangs.

These two are kind of rivals you could say being on opposite sides of Norfolk.

I look for Stanton to go in there and play one of their better games of the year Friday night.

I think just competing and keeping things close against a quality team would be a big step in the right direction for the Mustangs.

Stanton has struggled so far this season, and has yet to play their best basketball.

I look for the Mustangs to play better and give an inspired effort Friday night.

Someone besides Cunningham and Siebrandt have to step up on offense.

Stanton needs someone to step up and be a team leader on the floor.

Someone who will lead by example with their play scoring and rebounding and hustling.

The Mustangs have to pick up their play and hold themselves and each other more accountable.

Stanton has the ability to get things headed in the right direction, they just need something to bring it all together for them.

The team has to be loose and relaxed and must laugh and kid around prior to Friday night's game just to lighten up the mood.

The Mustangs have to shoot with confidence and get fired up and be passionate about the game Friday night.
