West Point-Beemer Boys off to 1-2 start; Girls 2-1

The West Point-Beemer Boys are off to a 1-2 start, losing 49-46 at home to Arlington in Thursday night's season opener aired on 107.9 the Bull. The Cadets also lost 63-41 at Omaha Roncalli on Saturday before downing Stanton 44-43 at home Tuesday night.

West Point-Beemer made a trio of three pointers in the first quarter, but Arlington led 12-9 after the first frame.

The Cadets were held to just four points in the second quarter, and Arlington led 22-13 at halftime.

The Eagles started to pull away in the second half, leading 36-24 after three quarters.

West Point-Beemer got hot in the fourth quarter, and pulled within six points in the final two minutes. Despite erupting for 24 points in the fourth, Arlington was able to make free throws, and hang on for the win.

Keegan Doggett had 11 points for the Cadets, while Drake Repschlaeger added 10.

The Crimson Pride led 19-6 after one, and outscored the Cadets 18-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-10 lead into the locker room.

Roncalli won the 3rd quarter 19-17 to go up 56-27 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer doubled up the Crimson Pride 14-7 in the 4th quarter.

The Cadets led the Mustangs 7-6 at the end of one. Stanton outscored West Point-Beemer 14-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-15 lead into the locker room.

The Mustangs outscored the Cadets 19-11 in the 3rd quarter to go up 39-26 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer outscored Stanton 18-4 in the 4th quarter to rally for the win.

Great comeback for the Cadets against the Mustangs.

West Point-Beemer (1-2) hosts North Bend Central (3-0) Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Tigers won 66-45 at home over Schuyler Tuesday night.

One would think North Bend Central would beat West Point-Beemer in similar fashion, but if the Cadets play the way they did in the 4th quarter against the Mustangs for four quarters then I feel like they have a chance to make things interesting at the very least.

The Tigers are older and probably bigger and maybe even more athletic and quicker than West Point-Beemer so the Cadets have to play with lots of heart.

West Point-Beemer also has to play smart and heady and hard against North Bend Central.

The Cadets have to try and slow things down as well.

West Point-Beemer has to try and keep this game in the 40's as opposed to letting the Tigers get in the 50's or 60's.

Much easier said than done though.

The Cadets have to come out and play inspired, and must give it their all for four quarters.

West Point-Beemer has to expect to compete and do well against North Bend Central.

Hopefully the 4th quarter the Cadets turned in the other night carries over to Thursday night's game.

West Point-Beemer has to use the momentum from that game to their advantage in this one.

The Cadets have to come out and challenge the Tigers, and give them all they can handle.

West Point-Beemer has to contest shots, follow shots, make layups and free throws, and knock down open jumpers.

The Cadets have to make the plays they can make, and cut down on turnovers and mistakes and not beat themselves.

West Point-Beemer has to turn in a flawless game and play out of their minds to be able to win this one.

Anything can happen too so the Cadets just have to believe and make it happen.

Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m. on the Bull.

The West Point-Beemer Girls are off to a 2-1 start as the Cadets lost 43-37 at home to Arlington in Thursday night's season opener before winning 48-46 at Omaha Roncalli on Saturday, and 49-30 at home over Stanton Tuesday night.

West Point-Beemer led the Eagles 13-8 at the end of the first quarter, and got out to a 20-10 lead about midway through the second.

Arlington closed the second quarter on a 10-2 scoring run, and the Cadets held a 22-20 advantage at halftime.

West Point-Beemer scored just five points in the third quarter and the Eagles led 30-27 after three.

The Cadets hit a couple of key three pointers in the fourth quarter, but Arlington made free throws down the stretch, scoring seven of their 13 fourth quarter points from the line, and the Eagles were able to claim the win.

With the win, Arlington beat West Point-Beemer in the season opener for the first time since 2013.

Sidney Swanson led the Cadets with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Jadyn Meiergerd added 9 points while Rachel Groth had 9 rebounds.

West Point-Beemer led Roncalli 19-18 at the end of one. The Crimson Pride won the 2nd quarter 7-5 to go up 25-24 at halftime.

The Cadets outscored Roncalli 14-6 in the 3rd quarter to pull in front 38-31 at the end of three.

The Crimson Pride won the 4th quarter 15-10.

Swanson had 15 points and 9 rebounds while Meiergerd and Brooklyn Weddle totaled 10 points each. Groth notched 8.

The Cadets went up 16-2 on the Mustangs at the end of one. West Point-Beemer outscored Stanton 11-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-6 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets doubled up the Mustangs 14-7 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 41-13 at the end of three.

Stanton won the 4th quarter 17-8.

Swanson had 14 points while Weddle registered 11 points and 7 rebounds. Meiergerd chipped in 7 points.

I really think West Point-Beemer has done a nice job of improving with each game.

The Cadets (2-1) host North Bend Central (3-0) Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Tigers won 69-7 at home over Schuyler Tuesday night.

North Bend Central has been very dominant this season having also beaten Twin River 62-18 and Class B Seward 78-37.

So the Tigers appear to be the better team on paper coming in.

With that said, West Point-Beemer was better on paper coming into Sub-Districts last year when North Bend Central pulled the upset.

Granted that was the 3rd time the two teams met that season, but the potential for an upset definitely lies out there.

I think the Cadets have to try and slow the game down and control pace.

It's crazy we're talking about West Point-Beemer trying to slow pace down in a game against North Bend Central given how the Tigers always used to play more half court and the Cadets would run and gun, but NBC has been unstoppable on offense this year.

I just don't think West Point-Beemer wants to get in a track meet with the Tigers, not right now at least.

It should be a heck of a battle and game, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things turn out Thursday night.

I'm not saying the Cadets will win because North Bend Central is a very good team, but I think West Point-Beemer's loss to Arlington is deceiving as to how good a team they really are.

Swanson, Weddle, and Meiergerd need to have big games for the Cadets.

If West Point-Beemer can get big contributions from those three then they may be able to win.

I think defense will be big in this one as well.

The Cadets have to try and deal and contend with the Tigers' size down low, and try and win the rebounding and turnover battles.

West Point-Beemer has to take care of the ball and set good, hard screens.

The Cadets need to hit layups and free throws, and convert on open jump shots from the outside as well.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on the Bull.
