Wisner-Pilger Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls 0-3 in last three
The Wisner-Pilger Boys won 78-33 at Tekamah-Herman on Friday, December 13th before losing 55-44 at home to Oakland-Craig last Thursday night, and 63-46 at Wayne last Friday night.
The game with the Knights was tied at 14 after one. Oakland-Craig won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to go up 25-23 at halftime.
The Knights won the 3rd quarter 10-8 to lead 35-31 at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig outscored Wisner-Pilger 20-13 in the 4th quarter.
The Blue Devils led 20-9 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 14-9 to take a 34-18 lead into the locker room.
Wayne outscored the Gators 17-11 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 51-29 at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 17-12.
Tough last couple of games for the Gators.
Wisner-Pilger (3-2) takes on Pierce (4-1) in the first round of the Shootout on the Elkhorn Holiday Tournament in Wisner on Monday.
The tournament was supposed to start on Saturday, but things were pushed back to Monday due to the impending weather.
So the Gators will have to wait another couple of days before getting back on the court.
I think Wisner-Pilger is probably pretty anxious to get back out there after losing their last two ball games.
I feel the Gators are a better team than their last two games would indicate.
Wisner-Pilger has to come out and play extremely well against the Bluejays.
Pierce is a very good team as always as they knocked off Columbus Scotus 49-27 at home last Friday night.
The Bluejays haven't really beaten anyone good so far though so I think the Gators have a good chance to win this one.
Wisner-Pilger has to come out and be ferocious and play hard.
The Gators have to come out and play like there's no tomorrow.
Wisner-Pilger has to push the ball and try and play with the lead as much as possible against Pierce.
The Gators also need to play well on the defensive end of the floor as well.
But I think getting back to where they need to be offensively is going to be big for Wisner-Pilger.
The Gators have struggled to put the ball in the basket the last two games, and hopefully they're getting some shooting in with this long layoff.
You know what you're going to get from the Bluejays, and that is a great effort and hard nosed, physicality.
Pierce always plays hard and is always ready to play so you have to be ready to go against them as well.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Wisner-Pilger.
The Wisner-Pilger Girls lost 35-33 at Tekamah-Herman on Friday, December 13th before falling 54-18 at home to Oakland-Craig last Thursday night, and 54-26 at Wayne last Friday night.
The Gators led Tekamah-Herman 6-4 at the end of one. The Tigers won the 2nd quarter 8-6 to tie the game at 12 at halftime.
Tekamah-Herman outscored Wisner-Pilger 9-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 21-18 at the end of three.
The Gators won the 4th quarter 15-14, a quarter highlighted by a late shot by Maggie Sheets.
The Knights quadrupled up the Gators 16-4 in the 1st quarter. Oakland-Craig outscored Wisner-Pilger 21-1 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-5 lead into the locker room.
The Knights won the 3rd quarter 12-7 to go up 49-12 at the end of three.
The Gators won the 4th quarter 6-5.
The Blue Devils got out to a 19-5 lead after one before doubling up Wisner-Pilger 16-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 35-13 lead into the locker room.
Wayne outscored the Gators 14-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 49-18 at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger won the 4th quarter 8-5.
It has been tough sledding for the Gators so far.
Wisner-Pilger (0-5) takes on Lutheran High Northeast (2-4) in the first round of the Shootout on the Elkhorn on Monday.
The Eagles lost 53-52 at home to Homer last Friday night.
LHNE won 43-28 at Wisner-Pilger on December 5th.
I think the Gators can definitely compete and keep things close with the Eagles, and ultimately win.
I feel the window of opportunity in this game is huge for Wisner-Pilger.
I think the Gators have a chance to do very well in this one and get their season headed in the right direction.
The season hasn't gone how Wisner-Pilger wanted so far, but there's a long ways to go.
Putting the ball in the basket and scoring has to be the focal point for the Gators right now though.
Wisner-Pilger has really struggled offensively.
I feel like the team's defense has been fairly respectable, but the Gators have to put the ball in the hole more to win games.
I think shooting has to be the focus in practices right now, and working on free throws and knocking down shots and things of that sort.
I think the biggest thing for Wisner-Pilger right now though is developing and gaining confidence.
The Gators have to create their own energy and spark to get things headed in the right direction.
The only people who can change the outlook of the season for Wisner-Pilger is Wisner-Pilger themselves.
Nobody is going to change the Gators' fortunes but themselves.
I don't know if it means working harder in practice or staying after and coming in before to shoot, but regardless the team has to do whatever they can to be successful.
Wisner-Pilger has to have that drive and determination and passion to be great and amazing.
The Gators have to be better than this, and I know they can and will be.
Tip-off is set for noon at Wisner-Pilger.
