Winnebago Boys start season 1-2; Girls 3-0
The Winnebago Boys are off to a 1-2 start, downing Homer 54-52 at home last Thursday night in the season opener before losing 60-51 at Walthill Tuesday night and 64-57 at Omaha Nation Thursday night.
The Indians led the Knights 14-11 after one. Homer outscored Winnebago 19-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room.
The Indians won the 3rd quarter 13-12 to make it a 42-37 game at the end of three.
Winnebago outscored the Knights 17-10 in the 4th quarter.
Probably not the kind of start to the season the Indians had in mind.
Winnebago (1-2) travels to Adams Central to take on the Patriots (3-0) on Saturday.
Adams Central won 64-33 at Wood River Tuesday night.
The Patriots have been lights out so far this year as all three of their wins have been by over 20 points.
Adams Central appears to be the real deal this year, and the Indians are going to need to come out and play very well to beat them.
Defense has kind of let Winnebago down so far I feel.
The offense hasn't been too bad, but the defense has struggled some.
The Indians have to find a way to score even more points than they have been averaging per game though and figure out a way to be solid and stout defensively.
The environment figures to be hostile with the Patriot fans cheering loud, but I fully expect Winnebago to bring a huge contingent of fans.
The Indians have to bring it, and be ready to run and gun.
Winnebago has to bring their "A" game and be ready to run, run, run.
The Indians have to look to get out in transition as much as possible.
Winnebago also has to defend shots and the post well.
The Indians have to go in there and expect to come away with a win.
Winnebago has to take the frustrations of losing the last two games out on Adams Central.
The Patriots are a very good team and the Indians are going to have to play very well to come out on top.
Winnebago can definitely win though as long as they play well and put forth a fantastic effort.
The Indians have to go in there and expect to do well and win.
Winnebago has to have the drive, determination, and will to do and be great.
The Indians can't accept losing or moral victories.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The Winnebago Girls are off to a 3-0 start as the Indians won 50-43 at home over Homer in last Thursday night's season opener before downing Walthill 92-19 on the road Tuesday night, and Omaha Nation 78-60 on the road Thursday night.
The Indians led the Knights 9-8 after one. Winnebago won the 2nd quarter 11-7 to go up 20-15 at halftime.
Homer outscored the Indians 21-14 in the 3rd quarter to go in front 36-34 at the end of three.
Winnebago outscored the Knights 16-7 in the 4th quarter.
Maddy Cleveland had 20 points and 9 rebounds while Keisha Snyder totaled 9 points and 9 rebounds. Jayla Price added 7 rebounds.
The Indians led the Blujays 32-1 at the end of one, and outscored Walthill 25-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 57-11 lead into the locker room.
Winnebago outscored the Blujays 19-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 76-16 at the end of three.
The Indians outscored Walthill 16-3 in the 4th quarter.
Price registered 23 points while Natasha Deal had 18. Cleveland chipped in 11 while Miyayiah Loera added 10. Snyder added 9 points and 7 rebounds while Jaidan Payer and Lakaylah Kearnes totaled 8 and 7 points, respectively. Auriah Means compiled 7 rebounds.

The Indians outscored Omaha Nation 30-11 in the 3rd quarter to go up 62-36 at the end of three.
The Chiefs won the 4th quarter 24-16.
Snyder had 25 points to lead the way while Cleveland totaled 18 points and 8 rebounds. Price chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds good, enough for a double-double while Deal notched 9 points.
Great start to the season for Winnebago!!!
The Indians (3-0) take on Adams Central (3-0) on the road Saturday.
The Patriots won 80-39 at Wood River Tuesday night.
This should be a heck of a game.
I think Winnebago can definitely win it, especially if they get the scoring contributions they've gotten from everyone so far.
The Indians should be very happy with and excited about where they're at right now.
Winnebago has done some very nice things so far this season, and should feel good about where they are at
The Indians have to remain hungry though and realize how big an opportunity this game with Adams Central is.
Winnebago can't be content or complacent with where they are at right now by any means.
The Indians have to keep working hard and must keep their eye on the prize and remember what got them to where they are currently at.
Winnebago has to keep building on what they've already built and continue to improve upon it and make it better.
I don't think the Indians are quite where they want to be yet, but it appears they are headed for great things.
You can't complain with a 3-0 start to any season, that's for sure.
Winnebago has a golden opportunity in front of them on Saturday, and has to take advantage of it.
The Indians have to be focused solely on Saturday's game, and Saturday's game only.
Winnebago has to embrace the long road trip out to Central Nebraska, and must be ready to go as soon as they get off the bus.
The Indians have to play their tails off, and do everything in their power to win the game.
All that matters when you win is that you win, and if Winnebago can find a way to win on Saturday it will be a really big deal.
The next three games are all on the road and will really test the Indians so we will see what Winnebago is made of.
