Tekamah-Herman Boys 1-4 in last five games; Girls 4-1
The Tekamah-Herman Boys Basketball Team is 1-4 in their last five games, falling 78-33 at home to Wisner-Pilger on Friday, December 13th before losing 80-41 at home to Twin River on Saturday, December 14th. The Tigers then won 73-27 at Whiting, IA last Tuesday night before falling 69-43 at home to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull, and 56-38 at Arlington on Saturday.
Leading scorers against Whiting, IA were Cole Friedel (16) and Clay Beaumont (13). Other Tiger boys in the scoring column were Brock Rogers (8), Jed Hoover & Kaleb Quick (7 apiece).
The Raiders led 11-10 after one, and outscored the Tigers 18-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-18 lead into the locker room.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder outscored Tekamah-Herman 22-7 in the 3rd quarter to go up 51-25 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 18 points in the 4th quarter.
Rogers made five three-pointers and scored 19 points for the Tigers.
The Eagles led 15-12 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 10-8 to take a 25-20 lead into the locker room.
Arlington also won the 3rd quarter 16-10 to go up 41-30 at the end of three.
The Eagles outscored Tekamah-Herman 15-8 in the 4th quarter.
I think the win over Whiting, IA allowed the Tigers to play better against LVSS and Arlington compared to the way Tekamah-Herman played against Wisner-Pilger and Twin River.
The Tigers (1-4) take on Elgin Public/Pope John (2-5) at the Madison Holiday Tournament on Friday.
The Wolfpack lost 51-42 at Boyd County on Saturday.
I think Tekamah-Herman has an excellent chance to pick up a win in this one.
Of course we are in the middle of the five-day moratorium, but hopefully the Tigers are working out and getting into the gym on their own.
The players should take the time to relax and enjoy the holidays, but also stay active and not just sit around for five days.
This Holiday Tournament is very winnable for Tekamah-Herman, in my opinion.
The Tigers will either play the host Dragons or Emerson-Hubbard on Day Two.
I think it's a good thing Tekamah-Herman got out of the Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday Tournament.
This Holiday Tournament is closer to home, and more Tiger friendly if you will.
I think this is the type of tournament that can build Tekamah-Herman's confidence, and allow them to compete better against some of the tougher teams on their schedule, like we saw after the win over Whiting, IA.
The Tigers have to come out aggressive and confident on Friday.
Tekamah-Herman is playing a a team that I feel they are better than, and should go out there and show and prove it.
I think the key for the Tigers will be scoring points.
I don't think defense will be much of an issue for Tekamah-Herman, it will just be putting the ball in the basket that needs to happen.
The Tigers have to play hard and smart from the start, and take the fight to the Wolfpack for four quarters.
Tekamah-Herman has to do everything in their power to go out there and get a win.
I look for the Tigers to not only win, but to win big.
Tekamah-Herman has much larger enrollment than Elgin Public/Pope John does, and should go out there and show it on Friday.
Tip-off is set for 12:45 p.m. in Madison.
The Tekamah-Herman Girls continue to roll, winning 35-33 at home over Wisner-Pilger on Friday, December 13th before winning 57-36 at home over Twin River on Saturday, December 14th. The Tigers then won 56-13 at Whiting, IA last Tuesday before winning 53-30 at home over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Thursday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull. Tekamah-Herman then fell 39-35 at Arlington on Saturday.
The Gators led 6-4 at the end of one. The Tigers won the 2nd quarter 8-6 to tie the game at 12 at halftime.
Tekamah-Herman outscored Wisner-Pilger 9-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 21-18 at the end of three.
The Gators won the 4th quarter 15-14, a quarter highlighted by a late shot by Maggie Sheets.
Jadyn Fleischman had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.
The Titans got out to a 10-4 lead at the end of one before Tekamah-Herman outscored them 20-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 24-18 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 16-11 to go up 40-29 at the end of three.
Tekamah-Herman outscored Twin River 17-7 in the 4th quarter.
Leading scorers against Whiting, IA were Fleischman (14), Elena Jetensky (9), Anna Wakehouse & Kaitlyn Quick (8 apiece).
The Tigers and Raiders were tied at 11 at the end of one Tekamah-Herman outscored LVSS 11-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-15 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers outscored the Raiders 16-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 38-21 at the end of three.
Tekamah-Herman won the 4th quarter 15-9.
Sheets led the Tigers with 15 points, while Fleischman scored 14 and Greta Lindberg added 10.
The Eagles led 15-7 at the end of one before Tekamah-Herman outscored them 11-2 in the 2nd quarter to go up 18-17 at halftime.
The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 9-8 to lead 26-24 at the end of three.
Arlington outscored Tekamah-Herman 14-8 in the 4th quarter to pull off the come from behind win.
Really good play from the Tigers, especially in the last four games.
Tekamah-Herman (6-2) faces Elgin Public/Pope John (4-3) at the Madison Holiday Tournament on Friday.
The Wolfpack fell 54-38 at Boyd County on Saturday.
Elgin Public/Pope John is a decent team, but I look for the Tigers to win based on how they've played so far this season and based on the fact Tekamah-Herman has the higher enrollment.
The Tigers have already equaled their win total from last year, and that is very impressive to me.
Tekamah-Herman should feel very good about how they have played so far this season.
The Tigers have to remain hungry and want more though.
Tekamah-Herman can't be complacent or satisfied with what they have done so far this year.
The Tigers have done a lot of great things and accomplished a lot so far, but Tekamah-Herman has to keep pushing.
Hopefully the Tigers are getting in the gym and working out on their own during this five-day moratorium.
The last thing you want is for the team to sit around and do nothing for five days.
I think it's important for Tekamah-Herman to continue to have the type of offense they had for three games last week.
The defense has been a staple and been there all season long for the Tigers, now the offense has to become a consistent, reliable force.
I feel Tekamah-Herman is going to win a lot of games when they score in the 50's.
When the Tigers score in the 30's or lower that's when things become a little dicey.
Hopefully Tekamah-Herman is shooting a lot during this moratorium.
The girls should enjoy their time off and time with family for Christmas and all, but stay active and not just do nothing for five days.
An hour or two in the gym every day or even every other day would be sufficient in my mind.
Anything the girls can do to stay sharp and fresh the better off they will be come Friday.
Tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m. in Madison.
