Wisner-Pilger Boys beat Lutheran High Northeast and GACC; Girls lose to both
The Wisner-Pilger Boys Basketball Team defeated Lutheran High Northeast 56-47 at home in last Thursday night's season opener before downing GACC 69-47 on the road Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Gators and Eagles were tied at 11 at the end of the 1st quarter. Wisner-Pilger won the 2nd quarter 11-6 to take a 22-17 lead into the locker room.
The Gators won the 3rd quarter 14-12 to extend their lead to 36-29 at the end of three.
Wisner-Pilger outscored LHNE 20-18 in the 4th quarter.
The Gators led the Bluejays 19-11 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 18-16 to go up 37-27 at halftime.
Wisner-Pilger outscored GACC 17-8 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 54-35 at the end of three.
The Gators won the 4th quarter 15-12.
Colby Heller had 18 points while Dylan Kneifl totaled 17. Cole Jacobsen was also in double figures with 16 while Caden Schweers chipped in 7.
Very impressive start to the season for Wisner-Pilger.
The Gators (2-0) take on Tekamah-Herman (0-2) on the road Friday night.
The Tigers lost 40-37 at home to Stanton on a buzzer beater Saturday night.
I look for Wisner-Pilger to pick up their 3rd win of the season on Friday and remain undefeated.
Tekamah-Herman is a young team that had some kids not go out for the team this year, and the Gators are very experienced.
You can bet the Tigers will put forth a great effort, but as long as Wisner-Pilger plays the way they did last week they should do well in this game too.
Both teams have had the entire week to prepare for one another so both should be amped and pumped and ready to rock and roll.
The Gators have to be wary of Tekamah-Herman being fired up after the tough loss to the Mustangs.
Wisner-Pilger has to come out and play hard, smart, and well.
The Gators can't take the Tigers lightly or for granted.
Wisner-Pilger has to respect Tekamah-Herman and what they can do and are capable of.
The Gators have to use this game with the Tigers as build up to the Oakland-Craig and Wayne games next week.
Those two games figure to be very tough, and if Wisner-Pilger can finish the pre-Christmas schedule unbeaten that will really be saying something.
The Gators can definitely do it too, but Wisner-Pilger has to first and foremost worry about beating Tekamah-Herman first.
Anyone can be beaten on any given night, and the Gators have to know that they need to bring it each and every night.
Wisner-Pilger has to bring it Friday night, especially with this being their only game of the week.
The Gators need to play well to stay sharp and fresh.
This is a game that Wisner-Pilger has to win, and win going away to keep their run of good play going into next week.
A big win would continue some old and create some new momentum for the Gators next week I feel.
The Wisner-Pilger Girls Basketball Team fell 43-28 at home to Lutheran High Northeast in last Thursday night's season opener before losing 61-11 at GACC Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Eagles went up 11-10 at the end of one, and quadrupled up the Gators 8-2 in the 2nd quarter to build a 19-12 halftime advantage.
LHNE doubled up Wisner-Pilger 10-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 29-17 at the end of three.
The Eagles won the 4th quarter 14-11.
The Bluejays went up 16-3 after one, and outscored the Gators 18-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-5 lead into the locker room.
GACC outscored Wisner-Pilger 13-1 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-6 at the end of three.
The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 14-5.
Tough game for the Gators on Friday.
Wisner-Pilger (0-2) takes on Tekamah-Herman (2-1) on the road Friday night.
The Tigers won 28-25 at DC West Tuesday night.
This game figures to be low scoring and defensive like both of Tekamah-Herman's wins have been.
I think the Gators' defense will be just fine, but Wisner-Pilger has to get their offense figured out.
You can bet the Gators worked on a lot of shooting drills in practice this week.
I think Wisner-Pilger not playing a game yet this week and having the whole week to prepare will really help them.
The Gators have had more time to get ready for the Tigers than Tekamah-Herman has had for them.
That should help the Tigers, but Tekamah-Herman has a lot of momentum on their side right now.
The Tigers figure to play on some adrenaline Friday night.
I fully expect Tekamah-Herman to be amped and fired up and ready to go Friday night.
Wisner-Pilger has to match their intensity and enthusiasm, and must play with great and fantastic effort.
The Gators have to play hard, and execute at a high level.
Getting and taking high percentage shots, making free throws, and making layups are all very important for Wisner-Pilger I feel.
The Gators also have to limit turnovers and box out and rebound well as well as create turnovers.
Wisner-Pilger has to create some positive energy and momentum and play with toughness, fire, tenacity, heart, grit, passion, and pride.
The Gators have to expect to win and play to win as opposed to not to lose.
Wisner-Pilger has to hold themselves accountable to high expectations, and must expect to succeed and do well.
The Gators have to look to improve upon the season they are having so far, and clean up mistakes made and reach their full potential.
Picking up a win would be a really big positive step in the right direction, and it can definitely happen for Wisner-Pilger Friday night.
