BRLD Boys upset at Howells-Dodge; Girls 3-0 in last three games
The BRLD Boys Basketball Team was upset 61-51 at Howells-Dodge Friday night.
The Wolverines got out to a 17-7 lead after one before the Jaguars outscored BRLD 21-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-21 lead into the locker room.
Both teams scored 16 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score after three was 44-37 in favor of Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 17-14.
I was very surprised and shocked that the Wolverines lost this game. Just goes to show anything can happen in the game of Basketball though.
BRLD (4-1) hosts Ponca (6-0) Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Indians won 60-46 at Crofton Tuesday night.
Ponca is a great team and has a great record, but the Indians haven't had the most difficult schedule.
Ponca has one win over a team with a winning record, and all the other wins are over teams with 1 or 0 wins.
So what I'm saying is if the Wolverines play a great game and get back to the way they were playing before the game with the Jaguars I think BRLD can definitely get the job done.
The Wolverines need this game in a big way too following the tough loss to Howells-Dodge.
BRLD doesn't want to head into the Holidays on a two-game losing skid.
The Wolverines want to bounce back and win no doubt.
I don't know if BRLD was overlooking the Jaguars or what happened in that game, but I think it's safe to say it just wasn't the Wolverines' night and they didn't play their best game.
Regardless of what happened in that one though, all BRLD can do now is move past it and focus on the Indians.
A win over Ponca would be a monumental program win.
You can bet the Wolverines will want to avenge last year's defeats to the Indians, both in the State Semifinals and in the regular season.
No better time than Friday night to get the job done either.
BRLD has a huge opportunity in front of them, and a chance to play a great game.
The Wolverines have to turn in an impressive and outstanding performance.
BRLD takes on GACC at 3:45 p.m. next Friday in their first game of the Holiday Tournament at Howells-Dodge.
You can bet the Wolverines would like another shot at the Jaguars, and a win over the Indians would go a long ways in making that happen should the two teams meet in the Championship next Saturday.
Anyways, the task at hand is Ponca, and the game will be aired on the Bull after the Girls Game, which is slated to start at 6:00 p.m.
The BRLD Girls won 63-45 at Howells-Dodge Friday night before downing Boys Town 85-31 on the road Saturday, and winning 72-62 at home over Pender Tuesday night.
The Wolverines led the Jaguars 16-8 after one before Howells-Dodge won the 2nd quarter 12-11 to make it a 27-20 game at halftime in favor of BRLD.
The Wolverines outscored the Jaguars 18-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 45-28 at the end of three.
BRLD won the 4th quarter 18-17.
The Wolverines led the Cowboys 27-4 after one, and outscored Boys Town 23-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 50-15 lead into the locker room.
BRLD outscored the Cowboys 22-10 in the 3rd quarter to go up 72-25 at the end of three.
The Wolverines won the 4th quarter 13-6.
Dominant wins for BRLD on Friday and Saturday, and another nice win Tuesday night.
The Wolverines (6-1) host Ponca (5-2) Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Indians lost 55-47 at Crofton Tuesday night.
Very difficult matchup and game for BRLD.
The Wolverines lost their one close game this year, blowing an 11-point halftime lead at Clarkson/Leigh.
BRLD can definitely make amends for that game with a win Friday night though.
This game is big for the Wolverine program.
BRLD has beaten Ponca before and I think they can definitely do it again this year.
The Wolverines can score with the best of them, and that makes them a very good and dynamic team, in my opinion.
BRLD has to be up to the task of playing good defense on Friday though.
I felt the Wolverines gave up too many points to the Pendragons.
BRLD's defense has been dominant for the most part this season, but there have been times of struggle, at least recently, for the Wolverines on that end of the floor.
The Indians have a good offense and defense, and have shown a lot of balance and consistency on both ends of the floor, so BRLD has to be ready to match that.
The Wolverines have to get out in transition and run the floor.
Run, run, run....press, press, press...that's what BRLD needs to do.
The Wolverines have to try and make this game a track meet and get out in transition and do their thing that way.
The more BRLD can score the better off I think they will be.
The lower the score, the more I think it favors Ponca.
The Wolverines have to shoot the ball well and get to the free throw line and knock down free throws.
Using the backboard on and making layups will be important for BRLD too I feel.
Friday night's game can be heard on the Bull starting at 6:00 p.m.
