Clarkson/Leigh Boys 1-1 in last two games; Girls 3-0 in last three
The Clarkson/Leigh Boys Basketball won and lost by an identical score Thursday and Friday nights, winning 60-17 at home over Winside Thursday night before falling 60-17 at home to BRLD Friday night.
The Patriots led the Wildcats 21-5 at the end of one, and outscored Winside 22-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 43-8 lead into the locker room.
Clarkson/Leigh won the 3rd quarter 13-7 to go up 56-15 at the end of three.
The Patriots doubled up the Wildcats 4-2 in the 4th quarter.
Tommy McEvoy had 12 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, while Isaak Wiese chipped in 12 points. Jarred Novotny and Lance Paprocki added 9 points each while Daniel Beller totaled 8.
The Wolverines got out to a 28-6 lead after one, and outscored Clarkson/Leigh 18-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 46-9 lead into the locker room.
BRLD doubled up the Patriots 10-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 56-14 at the end of three.
The Wolverines won the 4th quarter 4-3.
Great performance from Clarkson/Leigh Thursday night. BRLD is a whole different animal though.
The Patriots (1-3) host Madison (4-0) Thursday night.
The Dragons won 62-60 at home over Plainview Tuesday night.
Madison may not be playing the toughest competition, but they are still 4-0.
Clarkson/Leigh definitely has their hands full in this one without a doubt.
The Patriots can definitely win and get the job done though I feel.
Clarkson/Leigh played very well against Winside, and if they can play like that against the Dragons as well then a victory could very well be the outcome for the Patriots.
If Clarkson/Leigh has games like they did against BRLD and Oakland-Craig though then it might be pretty difficult to win.
The Patriots have to come into this one with lots of confidence and a belief that they can get the job done.
McEvoy, Wiese, and Beller all need to have big games for Clarkson/Leigh.
The Patriots also have to be sound defensively.
Clarkson/Leigh has to take care of the ball, create turnovers, and get out in transition for easy scoring opportunities.
The Patriots have to play their hearts out and leave it all out on the floor.
Madison has put up over 50 points in every game so far this year so Clarkson/Leigh has to really dedicate themselves on the defensive end of the floor.
The Patriots have to grab every rebound and loose ball in sight, and want it more than the Dragons.
Offensive rebounds, easy lay ups, free throws, and good shots are all important for Clarkson/Leigh to get and make Thursday night.
I feel the Patriots have a great opportunity in front of them Thursday night, and then again on Saturday against Howells-Dodge, and on Tuesday night at Columbus Lakeview.
Clarkson/Leigh has to take things one game at a time of course, but be encouraged and energized in these next three games knowing they have a chance to turn the corner and do something special.
The Clarkson/Leigh Girls won 64-5 at home over Winside Thursday night before rallying from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat BRLD 52-49 in overtime at home Friday night, and then won 64-23 at home over David City Tuesday night.
The Patriots led the Wildcats 17-0 after one, and outscored Winside 19-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-3 lead into the locker room.
Clarkson/Leigh shutout the Wildcats 15-0 in the 3rd quarter to go up 51-3 at the end of three.
The Patriots outscored Winside 13-2 in the 4th quarter.
Kaegan Held had 11 points and 7 assists while Hannah Kasik totaled 10 points. Alissa Kasik and Paige Moore recorded 9 points each while Cassidy Hoffman totaled 8. Ashylnn Novotny registered 8 points and 7 rebounds.
The Wolverines led 13-9 after one, and outscored Clarkson/Leigh 13-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-15 lead into the locker room.
The Patriots won the 3rd quarter 19-13 to make it a 39-34 game at the end of three.
Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 12-7 to tie the game at 46 at the end of regulation.
The Patriots doubled up the Wolverines 6-3 in the extra session.
Hannah Kasik had 14 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, while Held totaled 12 points. Halee Steffensmeier added 9 while Beth Wiese registered 7 rebounds.
Clarkson/Leigh led the Scouts 18-4 after one, and tripled up David City 24-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 42-12 lead into the locker room.
The Patriots outscored the Scouts 15-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 57-20 at the end of three.
Clarkson/Leigh won the 4th quarter 7-3.
Hannah Kasik totaled 19 points while Held notched 15. Hoffman added 10 while Novotny contributed 8.
Great job by Clarkson/Leigh coming off the Oakland-Craig loss.
The Patriots (4-1) host Madison (1-3) Thursday night.
The Dragons lost 47-33 at home to Plainview Tuesday night.
The Patriots should be able to win this one relatively easily I would think.
This game should be a lot like the Winside and David City games I would think.
Clarkson/Leigh has been so impressive this year, and should be very happy with and proud of what they've accomplished so far this season.
The work is not even close to being done yet though, and the Patriots have golden opportunities in front of them Thursday and Saturday.
Clarkson/Leigh has Howells-Dodge at home on Saturday, and that should be a heck of an opportunity for the Patriots to pick up a win, as should Thursday against Madison.
Clarkson/Leigh has to focus on the Dragons and the journey and the process right now though.
The Patriots can't get caught looking ahead to the Jaguars as easy as it would be to do so.
Clarkson/Leigh has to get pumped, jacked, fired, and psyched up for both Thursday and Saturday nights though.
Both teams are coming into the Patriots' house, and Clarkson/Leigh has to defend their home floor.
The Patriots have to take it to both teams, and be relentless against both.
Clarkson/Leigh has to attack and press both squads to death, and maximize their abilities and potential.
The Patriots have to keep scoring the ball the way they have lately.
Honestly I think scoring has been the biggest difference for Clarkson/Leigh this year, along with great defense.
If the Patriots can keep putting the ball through the hoop and watch their opponents' shots clank off the iron then they should be in really good shape.
Clarkson/Leigh has to come out with a sense of urgency, purpose, and pride Thursday and Saturday, and must be tenacious, tough, and gritty against both Madison and Howells-Dodge.
If the Patriots can be 6-1 heading into the Columbus Lakeview game next week then they should put themselves in a position to win that game too.
