Pender Boys 1-2 in last three games; Girls 1-1 in last two

The Pender Boys are 1-2 in their last three games, falling 62-57 at Lutheran High Northeast last Thursday night, and 56-38 at home to Oakland-Craig Friday night, before beating Allen 65-45 at home Monday night.

LHNE led 19-16 after one before the Pendragons won the 2nd quarter 12-10 to make it a 29-28 game at halftime.

Pender outscored Lutheran High Northeast 20-11 in the 3rd quarter to lead 48-40 at the end of three.

LHNE outscored the Pendragons 22-9 in the 4th quarter.

Sam Mailoux had 21 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Chris Rutar added 15 points while Eric Schopke and Jaxon Maise recorded 9 and 7, respectively.

Oakland-Craig got out to a 14-3 lead on the Pendragons after one before winning the 2nd quarter 24-10 lead into the locker room.

The Knights outscored Pender 23-13 in the 3rd quarter to go up 47-23 at the end of three.

The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 15-9.

Schopke notched 9 points while Mailoux had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Larry McManigal added 7 points while Jaydon Jump had 7 rebounds.

The Pendragons led the Eagles 20-7 after one, and outscored Allen 18-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-19 lead into the locker room.

Pender won the 3rd quarter 9-6 to go up 47-25 at the end of three.

The Eagles won the 4th quarter 20-18.

Mailoux finished with a double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds while Jump and Maise had 13 and 8 points, respectively.

The loss to the Knights was tough, but otherwise I thought the Pendragons played well in their last three contests.

Pender (2-3) takes on Stanton (1-3) on the road Saturday.

The Mustangs were dispatched of by North Bend Central 73-37 in Stanton Tuesday night.

Stanton plays Wakefield Friday night so we'll know a lot more about this matchup based on the result of Friday night's game between the Mustangs and Trojans.

I will say though I think the Pendragons have a good chance to win this one based on how they played on Monday and last Thursday.

I really felt Pender fought hard and gave a valiant effort against LHNE.

Mailoux figures to be challenged on the inside by the likes of Nathan Arens and Sam Bates so he has to be ready to go.

Other players have to be ready to step up and hit shots too like they have so far this season.

I'm sure Mailoux will draw some double teams and things of that nature on Saturday so he and everyone else have to adjust to whatever defenses Stanton throws their way.

I think this game will be close and competitive, but I look for the Pendragons to find a way to win.

Pender could really use another win and more momentum heading into the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family game next week.

The Pendragons have battled hard and played a tough schedule so far, and the battling hard part has to continue.

I think the one thing you can say about this team is that they're working hard and putting forth a great effort.

Some things to work on defensively, but if Pender can get those things worked out then they should be good to go.

The Pendragons have to work on being assertive on offense and proficient on defense on Saturday.

Pender has to really get after things on defense by slapping hands on the floor and that sort of thing.

The Pendragons have to show some Championship Pedigree and get over the hump.

Pender is off to an up and down start you can say, but there's plenty of time for the Pendragons to work things out and make a run.

A win over the Mustangs on Saturday would get things headed in the right direction for sure.

The Pender Girls won 70-61 in overtime at Lutheran High Northeast last Thursday night before falling 58-46 at home to Oakland-Craig Friday night.

The Pendragons led the Eagles 21-17 after one before LHNE outscored them 15-7 in the 2nd quarter to go up 32-28 at halftime.

Pender won the 3rd quarter 18-17 to make it a 49-46 game at the end of three in favor of the Eagles.

The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 13-10 to tie the game at 59 and send it into OT.

Pender outlasted Lutheran High Northeast 11-2 in the extra session.

Ashley Ostrand finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds while Zoey Lehmkuhl had 15 points. Faith Morris and Sarah Krueger added 14 and 11, respectively.

The Knights led the Pendragons 19-1 after one, and outscored them 18-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-13 lead into the locker room.

Pender won the 3rd quarter 15-14 to make it a 51-28 game at the end of three in favor of Oakland-Craig.

The Pendragons outscored the Knights 18-7 in the 4th quarter.

Ostrand had 15 points while Krueger was also in double figures with 13. Morris notched 8.

Great effort from Pender both nights. Two solid performances from the Pendragons in my book.

Pender (3-1) hosts North Bend Central (2-2) Friday night.

The Tigers lost 49-35 at Stanton Tuesday night.

The Pendragons are at Stanton on Saturday so big weekend for Pender.

I think we will really find out what the Pendragons are made of this weekend and next week, and see if they are for real or not.

Pender also has BRLD and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family next week so we'll find out if the Pendragons are a contender or a pretender.

Pender has a chance to garner some extra power points their next few games, and this one against North Bend Central in particular is big.

The Tigers are coming off a tough loss Tuesday night, and lost to West Point-Beemer the game before that so now might be the time to get North Bend Central if you are the Pendragons.

Pender has to come out and play the way they did last week.

If the Pendragons can do that then they should put themselves in a position to win.

I feel Pender is a stronger team offensively than the Tigers, but give North Bend Central the edge defensively.

The Tigers are the bigger school, but the Pendragons are at home so what gives?

I think there are advantages and disadvantages for both teams in this one, and that should make for a really good game Friday night.

It should be a really good game and I'm very interested to see how it turns out.

Pender has had ample practice and preparation time so that should be to their advantage I would think.

I think the start to this game could tell the tale.

The Pendragons started out good against the Eagles, but dug themselves a deep hole against the Knights.

If Pender can get off to a strong start and build a lead and force the Tigers to play from behind then I think it will be to their advantage.

Fall behind and things become difficult given the nature of North Bend Central's defense.
