GACC Boys 1-1 in last two games; Girls 3-1 in last four

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys Basketball Team lost 47-37 at home to Wynot last Thursday night before winning 64-46 at Crofton on Saturday.

The Blue Devils led 17-9 at the end of one and won the 2nd quarter 9-6 to take a 26-15 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 10 third quarter points, and the score was 36-25 at the end of three in favor of Wynot.

The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 12-11.

Jared Minnick paced the Bluejays with 16 points.

GACC got out to a 19-7 lead on the Warriors at the end of one, and outscored Crofton 15-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-16 lead into the locker room.

The Warriors won the 3rd quarter 15-13 to make it a 47-31 game at the end of three in favor of the Bluejays.

GACC won the 4th quarter 17-15.

Minnick led the way with 20 points while Matthew Rolf had 11. Casey Doernemann totaled 9 points and 7 rebounds while Adam Reeson had 9 points. Ben Ulrich chipped in 7.

Nice win for the Bluejays on Saturday. I think GACC figured some things out from halftime on in the Wynot game perhaps.

The Bluejays (1-4) take on Ponca (3-0) on the road Saturday.

The Indians won 70-56 at home over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Tuesday night.

I think GACC has a great and excellent opportunity in front of them.

The Bluejays have had the entire week off and so GACC should be well prepared and ready to go.

I fully expect the Bluejays to come out fresh and relaxed and prepared.

I look for GACC to take the momentum they gained against Crofton and carry it over into Saturday's game.

Ponca is a great team, being the defending Class C-2 State Champs and all, but the Bluejays are a good and proud program themselves.

GACC can't back down from the Indians whatsoever.

The Bluejays have to take on Ponca head on, and turn in another stellar performance.

I think starting well and playing a complete game are keys to the game for GACC.

The Bluejays played a great half against Crofton and a good half against Wynot now GACC has to play well for four quarters.

That's honestly what it's going to take to knock off a team like Ponca too.

The Bluejays have to be excited and fired up for this one.

GACC has to look at the game as an opportunity to make a statement and get things headed in the right direction.

I think the Bluejays have improved since last year and over the course of this season so far and are going to keep getting better as this season progresses.

GACC has to go into Ponca fearless and ready to go hard for four quarters.

The Bluejays have to play up to their capability and potential on Saturday.

Minnick needs to have a big game offensively again and needs help from his teammates.

Minnick having a big game and/or GACC having multiple players score a lot of points is going to be the key to the Bluejays being able to win and having a chance in this one.

The GACC Girls are 3-1 in their last four games, winning 57-32 at home over Wynot last Thursday night, and then falling 53-42 at Crofton on Saturday before downing Fremont Bergan 55-49 at home Tuesday night, and Winnebago 53-40 on the road Thursday night.

The Bluejays led the Blue Devils 9-4 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 15-11 to take a 24-15 lead into the locker room.

GACC won the 3rd quarter 20-15 to go up 44-30 at the end of three.

The Bluejays outscored Wynot 13-2 in the 4th quarter.

Sophia Hass had 19 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Angela Jansen notched 8 points while Brandi Doernemann compiled 8 points and 8 rebounds. Marissa Hunke added 7 points.

The Warriors led 11-9 after one, and outscored GACC 13-5 in the 2nd quarter to go up 24-14 at halftime.

The Bluejays won the 3rd quarter 18-13 to cut the lead in half at 37-32 at the end of three.

Crofton won the 4th quarter 16-10.

Brenna Rief tallied 15 points and 7 rebounds while Jansen registered 10 points.

GACC led the Knights 16-12 after one before Bergan doubled up the Bluejays 16-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-24 lead into the locker room.

GACC outscored the Knights 15-7 in the 3rd quarter to go back in front 39-35 at the end of three.

The Bluejays won the 4th quarter 16-14.

Hass had 11 points and 8 rebounds for the Bluejays while Jansen contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds. Hunke added 7 points while Maddie Bracht and Hannah Knobbe pitched in 7 points apiece.

The Indians went up 15-11 at the end of one before GACC won the 2nd quarter 9-4 to go up 20-19 at halftime.

The Bluejays outscored Winnebago 19-12 in the 3rd quarter to lead 39-31 at the end of three.

GACC won the 4th quarter 14-9 to make up the final score.

Hass recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Rief added 11 points while Jansen posted 10 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Hunke chipped in 9 points.

The Bluejays continue to play very good basketball.

GACC (6-1) takes on Norfolk Catholic (2-4) on the road Saturday.

The Knights knocked off Lutheran High Northeast 49-34 at home Thursday night.

Norfolk Catholic may be 2-4, but they've lost to some really good teams like Bishop Neumann, Lincoln Lutheran, Omaha Gross, and Hartington Cedar Catholic.

The Knights also beat Pierce so the Bluejays definitely have their work cut out for them in this one.

GACC is a really good, solid, and great team though, and I fully expect the Bluejays to do well.

I look for the Bluejays to have a great game plan and to execute it well.

GACC has to come out inspired, pumped up, and ready to go.

The Bluejays have to weather any storms Norfolk Catholic throws their way, and make a run or two themselves.

GACC has to come out and play authoritative and aggressive basketball.

The Bluejays have to get after it defensively with their press, and get out in transition and run and be up tempo.

GACC has to do the things that got them to where they are right now.

The Bluejays have been very good offensively and defensively, and dominant when they need to be.

GACC has to bring their A game and play with a sense of urgency and purpose on Saturday.

The Bluejays have to execute the offense and be relentless with their defensive attack.

GACC has to make easy layups and get to the free throw line and knock down open jumpers.

The Bluejays have to be motivated and ready to go.

GACC has to play with pride, toughness, grit, tenacity, passion, and fire.

The Bluejays have to come out and smack the Knights in the mouth, and assert themselves.

GACC has to play their game and not worry about what Norfolk Catholic does or the antics of the crowd for that matter.

The Bluejays have to take care of business in a type of game they've won for many years now.
