Emerson-Hubbard Boys and Girls lose at Ponca
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team fell 63-31 at Ponca Friday night.
The Indians got out to an 18-8 lead after one, and outscored the Pirates 21-4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 39-12 lead into the locker room.
Ponca won the 3rd quarter 8-7 to build a 47-19 lead at the end of three.
The Indians won the 4th quarter 16-12.
Spencer Burcham had 13 points while Jacob Kneifl totaled 8 points and 10 rebounds. Nolan Belt added 8 rebounds.
I'm sure the Pirates were hoping and feel like things could have gone better, but Ponca is the defending Class C-2 State Champs for a reason.
Emerson-Hubbard (0-5) takes on Winside (0-5) on the road Thursday night.
The Wildcats lost 49-34 at home to St. Edward last Tuesday night.
This should be the Pirates' first win of the year.
Emerson-Hubbard has to come out and play well and dominate from beginning to end.
The Pirates have to play their best game of the year leading up to the Holiday Tournament.
Emerson-Hubbard battles Elgin Public/Pope John at 4:15 p.m. next Friday at the Madison Holiday Tournament.
The Wolfpack are also winless on the season.
So a couple of opportunities for the Pirates to pick up wins over the course of the next couple of games.
Perhaps a couple of wins will spark and ignite this Emerson-Hubbard squad.
The Pirates need to kickstart things offensively, and I feel that could happen against Winside Thursday night.
Emerson-Hubbard has to come out hungry and aggressive, and must play the Wildcats tough as nails.
The Pirates have to win big, and take the momentum into the Holiday Tournament.
Emerson-Hubbard needs to have good practices leading up to Thursday's game and after the five-day Holiday moratorium.
This is an important time in the season for the Pirates as a couple of wins could perhaps get this team going I would say.
These next two games are must wins for Emerson-Hubbard...program building victories that are a must.
There is no other option for the Pirates....these next two games need to be wins.
The winner of the Emerson-Hubbard/Elgin Public/Pope John game gets the winner of Madison and Burwell in the Championship next Saturday so a Holiday Tournament Championship isn't out of the question for the Pirates.
Emerson-Hubbard has to step up their game and play well to finish the rest of the 2018 portion of the schedule out strong.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls lost 57-30 at Ponca Friday night.
The Indians tripled up the Pirates 21-7 in the 1st quarter, and outscored Emerson-Hubbard 13-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-13 lead into the locker room.
Ponca quadrupled up the Pirates 16-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 50-17 at the end of three.
Emerson-Hubbard won the 4th quarter 13-7.
Melanie Gentrup had 12 points while Addison Mackling registered 11.
The Indians played exceptional basketball in this one, and the Pirates struggled on both ends of the floor.
Emerson-Hubbard (2-3) battles Winside (1-4) on the road Thursday night.
The Wildcats beat St. Edward 34-31 at home last Tuesday night.
Winside has scored less than 30 points in every loss, including 10 or fewer in two of those games so the Pirates should be able to win going away.
Emerson-Hubbard has to come out and play great basketball Thursday night.
It's the last game before the Holiday Moratorium hits, and the last time to shine before the Holidays.
The Pirates face Elgin Public/Pope John next Friday at 2:30 at the Madison Holiday Tournament, and need all the momentum they can get heading into that game with the Wolfpack.
EPPJ is 6-1 on the season so they figure to be tough for sure.
Emerson-Hubbard just has to focus on playing well on Thursday and building momentum for the Holiday Tournament.
Even if the Pirates don't beat the Wolfpack they should have a chance against either Madison or Burwell in the consolation round.
Emerson-Hubbard just has to worry about and focus on Winside right now though.
The Pirates need big contributions across the board, and need another feel good win.
I thought Emerson-Hubbard was more equipped to give Ponca a game than they were, but nothing can be done about that game now.
The Pirates have to put the loss to the Indians behind them and move on.
The Wildcats are a team Emerson-Hubbard should beat.
There's no reason or excuse as to why the Pirates can't or shouldn't win.
Emerson-Hubbard has to come out and play and execute at a high level, and take the fight to Winside for four quarters.
The Pirates have to build a big lead and never look back in this one.
This could be one of those games where the bench players get even more playing time than they already do.
Emerson-Hubbard has to get contributions from everywhere and turn in their most complete performance of the season.
