Tekamah Boys and Girls lose to Stanton and Pender; Girls beat DC West
The Tekamah-Herman Boys Basketball Team lost 58-34 at Stanton last Thursday night and 70-42 at home to Pender Friday night.
The Mustangs led 12-3 after one and won the 2nd quarter 16-13 to take a 28-16 lead into the locker room.
Stanton won the 3rd quarter 15-9 to go up 43-25 at the end of three.
The Mustangs outscored the Tigers 15-9 in the 4th quarter.
Slow start to the season for Tekamah-Herman, but there's a lot of season left.
The Tigers (0-2) take on Wisner-Pilger (1-1) on the road Friday night.
The Gators won 66-41 at home over GACC Friday night.
Wisner-Pilger is a talented, good, and lethal team, but Tekamah-Herman has to go in there with belief and confidence.
The Tigers have to take that next step and keep improving their game and fine tuning their craft.
Tekamah-Herman has to go into Wisner expecting to do well, compete, and win.
The Tigers have to give the Gators all they can want and handle.
Tekamah-Herman has to be poised, and must shoot and defend aggressively, smartly, and with confidence.
The Tigers have to get their hands in the passing lane and create havoc.
Tekamah-Herman has to be a thorn in Wisner-Pilger's backside, and guard tightly and create turnovers and get out in transition.
Rebounding and boxing out will be big too I feel.
Offensively, the Tigers need good shot selection, and have to get to the free throw line and make free throws.
Moving without the ball and setting good, hard screens will be big as well, in my opinion.
Tekamah-Herman has to play fearless and with nothing to lose.
The Tigers can't be scared of or intimidated by the Gators.
Tekamah-Herman is capable of doing anything they put their minds to, and that includes winning on the road in a tough place.
The Tigers have to take pride in their play and want to do well.
The kids have to work as hard as they can and play their hardest and do their best to win.
Tekamah-Herman has to put forth a great effort, but be gracious in defeat should they lose.
The Tigers are at Twin River on Saturday so there's potential for a win there regardless of how Friday turns out.
The Tekamah-Herman Girls are off to a 1-2 start, losing 51-28 at Stanton last Thursday night before falling 51-36 at home to Pender Friday night. The Tigers beat DC West 54-29 at home Tuesday night.
Stanton got out to an 8-3 lead on the Tigers after one before outscoring Tekamah-Herman 18-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-13 lead into the locker room.
The Mustangs won the 3rd quarter 13-7 to go up 39-20 at the end of three.
Stanton notched 12 points in the 4th quarter compared to 8 for the Tigers.
Pender went up 10-9 on the Tigers after one before outscoring Tekamah-Herman 17-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-16 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers won the 3rd quarter 12-10 to make it a 37-28 game at the end of three.
The Pendragons outscored Tekamah-Herman 14-8 in the 4th quarter.
The Tigers shutout the Falcons 19-0 in the 1st quarter and led 28-9 at halftime after both teams scored 9 points in the 2nd quarter.
Tekamah-Herman won the 3rd quarter 12-9 to lead 40-18 at the end of three.
The Tigers won the 4th quarter 14-11.
Anna Wakehouse had 13 points while Jadyn Fleischman had 9. Greta Lindberg chipped in 8.
Good win for Tekamah-Herman, who atoned for a one-point loss to the Falcons a year ago.
The Tigers (1-2) take on Wisner-Pilger (0-2) on the road Friday night.
The Gators lost 57-26 at home to GACC Friday night.
Wisner-Pilger has had their issues offensively, but are a solid defensive team.
Tekamah-Herman appeared to play their best game of the year so far Tuesday night, but it's hard to tell a ton by that game.
The Tigers really struggled on offense their first two games, and the defense may have even not been where Tekamah-Herman would like it to be.
With that said, the Tigers have a great chance and opportunity in front of them Friday night.
Tekamah-Herman has Twin River on the road Saturday as well so a chance to compete hard and win this weekend.
The Tigers can't back down from either team, and must up their level of play and propel themselves to victory.
Tekamah-Herman has to play their hearts out Friday night, and leave everything they have out on the court.
If the Tigers could even up their record at 2-2 it would be a big step in the right direction.
A win on Friday would help going into Saturday I don't think there's any doubt about that.
Tekamah-Herman has to expect to win, and has to play to win, and not not to lose.
The Tigers have to control the boards and pace of the game, and find their groove offensively and defensively like they did Tuesday night.
I really think playing Tuesday night and picking up a win helps with confidence and things of that sort heading into this one.
The Gators have yet to pick up a win this year, and I think having won a game already really helps and benefits Tekamah-Herman.
The Tigers have to come out and play hard, smart, and physical.
Tekamah-Herman has to play with mental as well as physical toughness, and must get good position down low on offensive and defensive plays.
The Tigers have to go out there and have fun and give it all they got.
