Stanton Boys lose to West Point-Beemer and North Bend Central; Girls beat Tigers, fall to Cadets

The Stanton Boys Basketball Team is 0-2 in their last two games, falling 51-41 at home to West Point-Beemer last Tuesday night, and 73-37 at home to North Bend Central Tuesday night.

The Mustangs led West Point-Beemer 13-11 after one and won the 2nd quarter 13-9 to take a 26-20 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets outscored Stanton 20-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 40-32 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer won the 4th quarter 11-9.

Nathan Arens had 15 points while TJ Larson and Sam Bates notched 8 apiece.

The Tigers led the Mustangs 22-12 after one, and outscored Stanton 20-7 in the 2nd quarter to go up 42-19 at halftime.

North Bend Central won the 3rd quarter 17-10 to go up 59-29 at the end of three.

The Tigers won the 4th quarter 14-8.

Arens recorded 14 points while Marcus Spotanski totaled 8.

A solid effort from the Mustangs against the Cadets, and a good effort against North Bend Central too, but the Tigers showed they are an exceptional team.

Stanton (1-3) takes on Wakefield (4-0) on the road Friday night.

The Trojans won 44-18 at home over Randolph Tuesday night.

Tall order for the Mustangs in this one so we'll see how they do.

Wakefield is good, but they haven't really dominated many teams except for the Cardinals.

I think Stanton can definitely go in there and compete and give the Trojans a heck of a battle and game.

I think the Mustangs can win too, but it won't be easy.

Stanton has to go into the game with positive energy and momentum though.

The Mustangs have to be all about positivity and a winning attitude Friday night.

Stanton has to expect to do well and win, and their play has to reflect that.

Arens has been a great scoring source for the Mustangs so far this year, and Spotanski, Bates, and Larson have stepped up nicely too.

Stanton has struggled on both ends of the floor in their losses though so the Mustangs could really benefit from overall improvement on offense and defense.

Doing the little things well like making good passes, working the ball around for good open shots and easy lay ups, getting to and converting at the free throw line, playing the passing lane, and generating turnovers and getting out in transition are all going to be big for Stanton, in my opinion.

The Mustangs also have to be confident when they shoot, and I will add Stanton has to box and rebound well also.

Stanton has been good in the past, and there's no reason to think the Mustangs can't get back to that level.

A win over the Trojans would certainly be a positive step in the right direction.

It won't be easy, it's going to be tough, but Stanton can definitely go up there and win, there's no doubt about it in my mind.

The Mustangs have to shake off the loss to the Tigers Tuesday night, and bounce back and regroup Friday night.

Nothing can be done about outcomes of past games, but Stanton has the power to dictate how future games are going to go.

The Stanton Girls are 1-1 in their last two games, falling 38-26 at home to West Point-Beemer last Tuesday night before winning 49-35 at home against North Bend Central Tuesday night.

The Mustangs led the Cadets 18-13 at halftime before West Point-Beemer cranked things up in the 2nd half, outscoring Stanton 14-5 in the 3rd quarter to go up 27-23 at the end of three, and then outscoring the Mustangs 11-3 in the 4th quarter to make up the final score.

Jaiden Hartl had a team-high 9 points.

Stanton led the Tigers 10-9 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 10-9 also to lead 20-18 at halftime.

The Mustangs outscored North Bend Central 10-3 in the 3rd quarter to go up 30-21 at the end of three.

Stanton won the 4th quarter 19-14.

Jessie Brandl posted 18 points and 9 rebounds while Liz Christensen recorded 16 points. Hartl chipped in 9.

Great bounce back effort from the Mustangs Tuesday night. That was by far Stanton's best game of the year.

The Mustangs (2-2) take on Wakefield-Allen (0-3) on the road Friday night.

Wakefield-Allen lost 46-37 at home to Randolph Tuesday night.

I look for Stanton to come out and dominate from start to finish.

The Mustangs need to use this game as a springboard to the Pender game on Saturday.

Stanton has a couple of tough games coming up after this one against the Pendragons and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family so the Mustangs need to build off the win over the Tigers and play well again Friday night.

Stanton has to carry over their good play from Tuesday night and use this game as a game to get even better to prepare themselves for what lies ahead.

The Mustangs started the season slow as I kind of thought they might with the long Volleyball season, but Stanton appears to be starting to hit its stride.

I look for a big win from the Mustangs Friday night, and another stellar performance on Saturday.

It's important for Stanton to keep playing well and finish out the schedule strong before the Holiday break.

The Mustangs can't really afford any more early season losses with the way the Sub-District and Sub-State format is set up.

Every game matters, and Stanton can't take anyone or anything lightly or for granted.

The Mustangs have to come out and play their best basketball against Wakefield-Allen.

Stanton has to be relentless with their press, and has to create turnovers into easy layups at the basket.

The Mustangs have to play aggressive, smart, hard, and most importantly must have fun.

Stanton has to play with passion, pride, toughness, tenacity, grit, fight, and determination.

The Mustangs have to refuse to lose, and must play with a winning attitude and a killer instinct.

Stanton has to turn in a big performance Friday night to get themselves geared and fired up for Saturday.

It's go time for the Mustangs if it wasn't before Tuesday already so I'm very interested to see how Stanton does this weekend.
