Emerson-Hubbard Boys lose to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Walthill; Girls defeat both

The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team lost 69-23 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Friday night and 90-58 at home to Walthill Tuesday night.

The Bears led 23-1 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 18-12 to take a 41-13 lead into the locker room.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored the Pirates 20-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 61-17 at the end of three.

The Bears won the 4th quarter 8-6.

The Pirates and Blujays were tied at 15 after one before Walthill outscored Emerson-Hubbard 30-8 in the 2nd quarter to go up 45-23 at halftime.

The Blujays won the 3rd quarter 23-14 to extend their lead to 68-37 at the end of three.

Walthill also won the 4th quarter 22-21.

Tough going offensively for the Pirates against the Bears, but a better offensive showing Tuesday night.

Emerson-Hubbard (0-4) takes on Ponca (3-0) on the road Friday night.

The defending C-2 Champs beat Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 70-56 at home Tuesday night.

A definite challenge for the Pirates, but Emerson-Hubbard has to approach this game with no fear and a belief that they can win.

The Pirates have to look at this game as an opportunity to grow and improve and get better.

Emerson-Hubbard has to come out and play with nothing to lose.

All the pressure is the Indians, no one expects the Pirates to win.

Emerson-Hubbard can definitely get things turned around though and do well in this game, in my opinion.

The Pirates started to figure out their offense this week, now let's see if Emerson-Hubbard can pick things up defensively.

I think it's matter of time before things all come together for the Pirates, and Emerson-Hubbard has to go into Ponca expecting to win.

The Pirates can't go up there thinking oh it's Ponca we're going to lose. Instead, Emerson-Hubbard has to be thinking let's go up there and shock the defending champs.

The Pirates have to be upbeat and positive and do whatever it takes to be successful.

Emerson-Hubbard has to get to work and make progress in this game.

Every game is an opportunity to grow and get better, and that's exactly what the Pirates must do in this one.

Emerson-Hubbard has to close the gap on the Indians, and continue to make progress and get better.

The Pirates are a work in progress, trying to get back on track as a program and everything, and this game against Ponca has to be a building block for better things in the future.

I don't know if Emerson-Hubbard will go into Ponca and win, but it's the kind of attitude the Pirates must have, and their effort and play has to reflect that.

Emerson-Hubbard has to believe they can win, and must play to win and not not to lose.

The Emerson-Hubbard Girls have picked up their play quite a bit from the first couple of games of the season, winning 49-42 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Friday night and 50-43 at home over Walthill Tuesday night.

The Pirates led 9-4 after one before the Bears won the 2nd quarter 18-14 to make it a 23-22 game at halftime in favor of Emerson-Hubbard.

The Pirates won the 3rd quarter 9-8 to lead 32-30 at the end of three.

Emerson-Hubbard outscored Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 17-12 in the 4th quarter.

Melanie Gentrup had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds while Addison Mackling had 14 points. Taylor Daum added 8 points and 10 rebounds while Brynn Schock and Stephanie Ferrusca registered 13 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

A pair of really encouraging wins for the Pirates given their limited roster size.

Emerson-Hubbard (2-2) takes on Ponca (4-0) on the road Friday night.

The Indians won 53-40 at home over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Tuesday night.

I think there's a lot of potential for the Pirates to go into Ponca and win.

Emerson-Hubbard has been playing good basketball as of late, and has to be confident and must believe that they can go up there and win.

The Indians have been up and down so it's hard to know what to expect from them.

If Ponca brings their "A" game they're going to be very difficult to beat.

But if the Indians struggle and things are close and tight then it could be a Pirate win.

Emerson-Hubbard has to go up there with absolutely nothing to lose.

The Pirates shouldn't feel the pressure whatsoever.

Emerson-Hubbard has to go up there and play with reckless abandonment and a positive, winning attitude.

The Pirates have already done some nice things in their last couple of games, and need to build upon them.

Emerson-Hubbard has to feel very good about what they've accomplished so far this season, and has to want more.

The Pirates have to be feeling the positive vibes and momentum right now.

Emerson-Hubbard has to build off what they've done the past couple of games, and turn it into more success Friday night.

The Pirates are starting to find their way, and it's very nice and encouraging to see.

I think there's a real potential for an upset, or at least a near upset, in this game.

Ponca is a great team, but Emerson-Hubbard has played well and held their own the past two games after a couple of tough games to start the season so we'll see what happens Friday night.

Win or lose, the Pirates have to find positives to take away from the game...things that they can build on for the Winside game next Thursday night.

Emerson-Hubbard is definitely headed in the right direction so keep it up ladies!!!!
