Winnebago Boys 2-0 in last two games; Girls 2-1 in last three

The Winnebago Boys won 74-66 at Hartington-Newcastle Thursday night before defeating Creighton 71-50 in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament at Creighton Monday night.

The Indians led 14-12 at the end of one on the Wildcats. Hartington-Newcastle won the 2nd quarter 17-16 to make it a 30-29 game at halftime.

Winnebago outscored the Wildcats 25-17 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 55-46 at the end of three.

Hartington-Newcastle won the 4th quarter 20-19.

The Bulldogs went up 16-9 after one before the Indians outscored Creighton 24-15 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-31 lead into the locker room.

Winnebago outscored Creighton 25-15 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 58-46 at the end of three.

The Indians outscored the Bulldogs 13-4 in the 4th quarter.

Two very well played games for Winnebago.

The Indians (9-8) take on Walthill (13-2) in the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament Semifinals at Walthill Thursday night.

The Blujays beat Wynot 68-58 in the first round of the tournament at Creighton Monday night.

Winnebago beat Walthill 64-61 at home back on December 4th.

The rematch figures to be even tougher than the first game was, but the Indians can definitely come out on top if they play like they did on Monday.

Beating the Blujays on their home floor is no small task either, but I feel like Winnebago will be up to the challenge.

It will be interesting to see what happens in this game as it is always a battle when these two get together.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Walthill.

The Winnebago Girls doubled up Hartington-Newcastle 68-34 on the road Thursday night before winning 60-33 over Randolph in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament at Ponca on Saturday. Winnebago then lost 72-45 to Ponca in the Semifinals of the Tournament at Ponca Tuesday night.

Bago led the Wildcats 14-11 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 14-11 to take a 28-22 lead into the locker room.

The Indians outscored Hartington-Newcastle 26-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 54-27 at the end of three.

Winnebago doubled up the Wildcats 14-7 in the 4th quarter.

Keisha Snyder had a double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds while Natasha Deal notched 20 points and Maddy Cleveland totaled 13.

The Indians went up 21-8 on the Cardinals at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 12-7 to take a 33-15 lead into the locker room.

Winnebago outscored Randolph 15-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 48-24 at the end of three.

The Indians won the 4th quarter 12-9.

Deal had 21 points while Snyder registered 20 points and 14 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Sylvia Valentino added 9 points.

Winnebago led Ponca 12-10 after one before Ponca won the 2nd quarter 15-14 to make it a 26-25 game at halftime.

Ponca exploded in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Winnebago 40-14 to take a commanding 65-40 lead at the end of three.

Ponca won the 4th quarter 7-5.

Snyder had a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds while Cleveland notched 11 points. Ciarra Frenchman added 7.

Really strong play from Winnebago except for the 3rd quarter against Ponca.

Winnebago (9-10) takes on Wakefield (13-7) for 3rd place at Cedar Catholic Friday evening.

The Trojans lost 49-24 in the Semis to Wynot Tuesday night.

These two teams will play each other twice in a row.

It should be a good, close game that can truly go either way.

I feel like either team is capable of winning on Friday.

I feel it's important for both teams to bounce back and play well following losses on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, only one team can win, but hopefully it is Winnebago.

Two wins over the Trojans and a win over Omaha Nation next Thursday to conclude the regular season would be good for momentum purposes no doubt.

Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Hartington.
