Emerson-Hubbard Boys go 1-1 in Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament; Girls go 0-2
The Emerson-Hubbard Boys Basketball Team lost 76-36 to Ponca at Ponca in the first round of Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament Monday night before beating Homer 60-59 in a consolation game at Winnebago Friday night.
The Indians led 9-7 after one before outscoring the Pirates 23-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-18 lead into the locker room.
Ponca outscored Emerson-Hubbard 28-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 60-22 at the end of three.
The Indians won the 4th quarter 16-14.
Hunter Schock had 10 points while Spencer Burcham totaled 8. Nolan Belt added 10 rebounds while Jacob Kneifl notched 7.
The Pirates led 13-11 after one against the Knights. Homer outscored Emerson-Hubbard 25-16 in the 2nd quarter to take a 36-29 lead into the locker room.
The Pirates won the 3rd quarter 12-11 to make it a 47-41 game at the end of three.
Emerson-Hubbard outlasted the Knights 19-12 in the 4th quarter to win it.
Quite the comeback and turnaround for the Pirates Friday night.
Emerson-Hubbard (6-13) takes on Randolph (6-11) on the road Tuesday night.
The Cardinals lost 46-42 to Bloomfield in a Conference Tournament Consolation game Friday night.
This should be a heck of a game and a real barn burner.
I feel the Pirates have come a long ways this season and are playing much better basketball than they have the past couple of years.
Perhaps the 4th quarter rally against the Knights will spark something for Emerson-Hubbard and allow them to make a good push as we wind down the regular season and get ready for Sub-Districts.
I fully expect the Pirates to play well and confident Tuesday night, and give Randolph all they can want and handle and then some.
It should be a heck of a game, and it wouldn't surprise me if Emerson-Hubbard won.
The Pirates have three regular season games left so Emerson-Hubbard has to make the most of them.
The Pirates have to be sky high with confidence right now given their comeback and the fact the Sub-District is wide open.
The Sub-District could very well come down to Pender and Emerson-Hubbard.
And if that matchup happens and the Pirates are on top of their game and Pender has an off game or just plays okay Emerson-Hubbard could win.
I guess what I'm trying to say is a lot can happen yet this season, and the Pirates should be feeling good about themselves after Friday's comeback.
The win should be out of their system by now though, and Emerson-Hubbard should be fully focused on and ready for the Cardinals.
The Pirates have to get all hyped up and motivated prior to Tuesday night's contest.
There's no better time than right now to do something spectacular if you are Emerson-Hubbard.
We're at the point in the season where everything really counts and matters, and crazy things happen.
The Pirates have to do the extraordinary, and play great basketball next week and the following week to end the regular season leading up to Sub-Districts.
The Emerson-Hubbard Girls lost 61-44 to Wakefield-Allen last Saturday in the first round of the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament at Randolph before falling 53-11 to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at Ponca in a Consolation game Thursday night.
Wakefield-Allen doubled up the Pirates 20-10 in the 1st quarter before outscoring Emerson-Hubbard 18-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 38-17 lead into the locker room.
The Pirates won the 3rd quarter 13-12 to make it a 50-30 game at the end of three.
Emerson-Hubbard won the 4th quarter 14-11.
Melanie Gentrup had 15 points while Addison Mackling totaled 9. Taylor Daum added 8 points and 10 rebounds while Stephanie Ferrusca totaled 7 points. Brynn Schock registered 20 rebounds.
The Bears led 19-2 after one, and outscored the Pirates 17-2 in the 2nd quarter to go up 36-4 at halftime.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored Emerson-Hubbard 14-4 in the 3rd quarter to lead 50-8 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 3 points in the 4th quarter.
It appears the Pirates simply struggled to score against the Bears.
Emerson-Hubbard (6-12) take on Randolph (11-8) on the road Tuesday night.
The Cardinals lost 53-33 to Ponca in the Conference Tournament Semifinals Saturday afternoon.
You can bet Randolph will be pumped, ready, and anxious to go given their most recent loss.
The Pirates need to respond well and in a big way following Thursday night's loss.
It has to be back to the drawing board for Emerson-Hubbard.
The Pirates have to work on shooting drills during practice if at all possible.
I'm not quite sure what happened and took place against the Bears, but Emerson-Hubbard is better than that.
Of course one has to keep in mind that the Pirates only have 8 girls out for the team, and a lack of numbers played some sort of role in Thursday night's game I'm sure.
Emerson-Hubbard has to make due the best they can and try and bounce back Tuesday night.
Randolph is a good, solid team, and beating them on their home court doesn't figure to be easy.
I fully expect the Pirates to go in there and compete and play very hard though.
I think Emerson-Hubbard can keep the game respectable.
I feel the Pirates would be a much better team if they had more girls out for the team.
As it is, Emerson-Hubbard has what they have, and has to make do the best they can like they have all season.
The Pirates have to go out there and scrap, fight, and claw as hard as they can.
Emerson-Hubbard has a lot to play for yet this year, and could very well win their regular season finale over Omaha Nation on Friday.
There are no moral victories at this point.
It's about to be win or go home for the Pirates.
So knowing that, Emerson-Hubbard has to play great basketball the next couple of games to give themselves the best chance of success in Sub-Districts.
