North Bend Central Boys finish 2nd in EHC Conference Tournament, beat Tekamah-Herman; Girls 2-0 in last two games

The North Bend Central Boys Basketball Team is 2-1 in their last three games, defeating Howells-Dodge 66-32 at home Friday night in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals before losing 65-56 to BRLD in Saturday's Championship Game at CCC in Columbus. NBC then knocked off Tekamah-Herman 82-36 on the road Tuesday night.

North Bend Central got out to a fast start and raced past Howells-Dodge, leading 34-8 at halftime.

Tanner Wietfeld led the Tigers with 19 points. John Emanuel added 15 points, and also achieved the 1,000 career points milestone during the game.

NBC scored 17 in the first quarter against the Wolverines and took a 28-23 lead into the intermission.

But the Wolverines came out strong after halftime, scored 42 points in the second half, including 26 in the fourth quarter and 12 in the last two minutes, while pulling away late for the win.

Jaxon Wietfeld led the way with 14 points, Tanner Wietfeld had 13 and Chase Ruzicka added 12 off the bench.

North Bend Central led Tekamah-Herman 24-4 at the end of one. NBC won the 2nd quarter 23-20 to go up 47-24 at halftime.

North Bend Central outscored Tekamah-Herman 26-8 in the 3rd quarter to lead 73-32 at the end of three.

NBC won the 4th quarter 9-4.

Very strong performances on Friday and Tuesday from North Bend Central. BRLD just must be that good.

The Tigers (18-2) host Howells-Dodge (15-6) Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Jaguars beat Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 53-48 for 3rd place on Saturday in the EHC Tournament at CCC in Columbus.

Of course North Bend Central just beat Howells-Dodge pretty good, and will be looking for a similar result I'm sure.

I think Thursday night's game will be closer and more competitive than Friday's game was, but I think the Tigers stand a good chance to win again.

North Bend Central is tough, especially at home.

Howells-Dodge beat BRLD once though, and the Wolverines downed the Tigers, so anything can certainly happen.

North Bend Central also has a big game on Saturday at the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island against GICC.

That's a big stage and a big time opportunity for the Tigers no doubt, but North Bend Central has to be focused on and must take care of business against the Jaguars first.

The Tigers figure to have a good chance to win out the rest of the regular season and make a big postseason run.

There's been a couple bumps and hiccups in the road so far this season, but for the most part North Bend Central has been the poster child for consistency.

The Tigers have been pretty consistent throughout the entire course of the season.

North Bend Central's body of work is very impressive to me, and I think this is a championship team without a doubt.

The Tigers have to be excited about what lies ahead here at the end of the regular season and heading into postseason play.

North Bend Central has to take it all in stride and take things one game at a time though.

The Tigers can't get too ahead of themselves and think too much about big picture and postseason type things.

North Bend Central has to take care of business against Howells-Dodge and then go from there.

The "Join Up with Joel" Broadcast can be heard on the Bull following the girls game at 6:15 p.m.

The North Bend Central Girls won 52-31 over Twin River in an East Husker Conference Tournament Consolation Game at BRLD Thursday night before downing Tekamah-Herman 53-33 on the road Tuesday night.

The Tigers got up 11-6 on the Titans at the end of one before winning the 2nd quarter 13-9 to take a 24-15 lead into the locker room.

Twin River won the 3rd quarter 12-10 to make it a 34-27 game at the end of three.

North Bend Central outscored the Titans 18-4 in the 4th quarter.

Tekamah-Herman led 12-10 at the end of the 1st quarter before North Bend Central outscored Tekamah-Herman 12-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-17 lead into the locker room.

NBC opened things up in the 3rd quarter, tripling up Tekamah-Herman 21-7 to go up 43-24 at the end of three.

North Bend Central won the 4th quarter 10-9.

Great play from North Bend Central in both games.

The Tigers (15-7) round out the regular season Thursday night at home against Howells-Dodge (8-12).

The Jaguars lost 59-57 at Pender to Pender in an EHC Consolation Game on Thursday.

North Bend Central defeated Howells-Dodge 56-40 last Friday in the first round of the Conference Tournament.

The Tigers were playing great basketball then, and are playing great basketball now.

North Bend Central could potentially get a Sub-State game, so there's a lot to play for still even if the Tigers can't win the Sub-District next week.

This is a big game for the Tigers for power point purposes.

North Bend Central needs to come out and play the way they did the first time against Howells-Dodge.

The Tigers have to be strong at the rim and efficient scoring the ball at the basket.

North Bend Central has to come out and play the way they have been for much of the second half and part of the season.

The Tigers have to send the seniors out winners too.

It would be a big deal for these seniors to win their last ever home game, and for North Bend Central to win their last game at home.

This team has come a long ways given how young they are, and is in prime position to do something in the postseason it appears.

The Tigers have to come out and be ready to play a great game from the opening tip.

North Bend Central has to play a complete game like they did against the Jaguars the first time around.

The Tigers simply need to have a repeat performance of the first game between these two teams.

North Bend Central's offense has to be on target like it was the first time around, and the defense has to be on point as well.

The "Join Up with Joel" Broadcast will tip-off at 6:15 p.m. on the Bull.
