West Point-Beemer Boys fall to Oakland-Craig and Pierce; Girls down Knights for 2nd time, beat Tekamah-Herman in Sub-Districts

The West Point-Beemer Boys Basketball Team lost 77-57 at Oakland-Craig Friday night before falling 47-35 at home to Pierce Monday night.

The Knights went up 18-7 after one before the Cadets won the 2nd quarter 16-14 to make it a 32-23 game at halftime in favor of Oakland-Craig.

The Knights won the 3rd quarter 19-17 to extend their lead to 51-40 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig outscored West Point-Beemer 26-17 in the 4th quarter.

Blake Anderson led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double, while Jesus Barragan had 10 points. Keegan Doggett added 8 points while Zach Vander Griend totaled 7 points and 7 rebounds.

The Bluejays got out to a 14-8 lead at the end of one. The Cadets won the 2nd quarter 7-6 to make it a 20-15 game at halftime in favor of Pierce.

The Bluejays outscored West Point-Beemer 14-5 in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead to 34-20 at the end of three.

The Cadets won the 4th quarter 15-13.

Anderson had 13 points and 9 rebounds while Doggett notched 7 points.

Two quarters in each game was the difference for both Oakland-Craig and Pierce.

West Point-Beemer (10-11) wraps up the regular season at Fremont Bergan (13-8) Friday night.

The Knights routed GACC 81-56 at home on Saturday.

The Cadets have really struggled lately, losing two in a row and five out of their last six.

West Point-Beemer could really use a good and strong performance heading into Sub-Districts.

The Cadets take on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in C1-6 action at Oakland-Craig.

West Point-Beemer definitely has their work cut out for them the rest of the regular season.

The Cadets ran into a Pierce team that is playing real well right now and an Oakland-Craig squad that has beaten some good teams this year also.

West Point-Beemer has struggled down the stretch, and I don't know if the Cadets are the same team they were prior to the latter part of the East Husker Conference Tournament.

West Point-Beemer's struggling point just happens to come at the end of the regular season.

The Cadets need to find a way to get back on track, and I feel a win or a close loss to Bergan would allow them to do so.

West Point-Beemer lost to the Raiders by 11 in the regular season, and I think that Sub-District game could be very tight.

Going into Fremont and beating Bergan on their home floor is never an easy or small task.

The Knights really played well against the Bluejays on Saturday, and will look to do the same against the Cadets.

West Point-Beemer has to regroup and put their recent struggles behind them.

The Cadets have and will have had all week to prepare for Bergan so I totally expect West Point-Beemer to come out and play a good game.

The Cadets need to find things to take away from this game that will help them in Sub-Districts.

This game is irrelevant for West Point-Beemer other than it helping the Cadets prepare for the postseason, in my opinion.

The West Point-Beemer Girls went into Oakland Friday night and defeated Oakland-Craig for the second time this season, 51-41. The Cadets then defeated Tekamah-Herman 67-23 in the C1-6 Sub-District Semifinals at Oakland-Craig Tuesday night, a game in which Andrea Hoffman had a school record 8 three pointers.

The Knights led 9-4 after one before the Cadets outscored Oakland-Craig 18-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-16 lead into the locker room.

The Knights won the 3rd quarter 11-9 to make it a 31-27 game at the end of three in favor of the Cadets.

West Point-Beemer won the 4th quarter 20-14.

Sidney Swanson had a game-high 19 points while Sierra Kile and Hoffman totaled 18 and 12, respectively. Brooke Haase added 8 rebounds.

The Cadets led the Tigers 13-4 after one, and won the 2nd quarter 21-13 to take a 34-17 lead into the locker room.

West Point-Beemer outscored Tekamah-Herman 29-4 in the 3rd quarter to go up 63-21 at the end of three.

The Cadets doubled up the Tigers 4-2 in the 4th quarter.

Great win for West Point-Beemer Friday night, and a dominant win on Tuesday.

The Cadets (22-1) take on North Bend Central (17-7) in the C1-6 Sub-District Final at Oakland-Craig Thursday night.

The Tigers won 39-36 over Arlington in Tuesday night's Semifinals.

West Point-Beemer beat North Bend Central 46-37 on the road the first time the two teams met and 46-40 at home in the East Husker Conference Tournament Quarterfinals later on in the regular season.

The Tigers boast a really good inside game with Lauren Emanuel, Faith Taylor, and others.

Rebounding, close shots at the basket, and getting to the free throw line and making free throws are all North Bend Central specialties.

The Tigers are a very patient team offensively, and will wait for a good shot or an open look before shooting the basketball.

The first two games were very close and decided by single digits, and I feel Thursday night's game could be a similar type game to the first two.

West Point-Beemer will make Sub-State win or lose, and it appears North Bend Central very well could also.

This game is big for seeding though as the Cadets definitely want to win to maintain their position in the wildcard point standings.

It's never easy to beat a team three times in a season, but I think West Point-Beemer has a shot to do just that.

You know the Tigers will bring their best game and effort though, and try and grind things out against the Cadets.

North Bend Central will maximize their abilities and potential in this one, that you can count on.

West Point-Beemer is a very good and explosive team this year though.

This finally appears to be the Cadets' year, and what West Point-Beemer is doing this year is very special and remarkable.

The Cadets have to keep it up and keep their eye on the prize.

There's two more games to go before making state, and West Point-Beemer has to stay focused and on point this week and next.

Tip-off between the Cadets and Tigers is set for 7:00 p.m.
