North Bend Central hosted Howells-Dodge on 107.9 the Bull Thursday night, with Join Up With Joel contest winner Taya VanLengen of H-D assisting on the call.
The game was high scoring right away, with NBC grabbing an early 18-15 lead after the first quarter, and a 40-37 lead at halftime.
H-D outscored the Tigers in the third quarter, and the game was tied 51-51 heading into the fourth.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Tigers, however, as NBC went off for 28 points, and they pulled away for a 79-65 win over the Jaguars.
Blake Sindelar led the way with 24 points including four three pointers, and Josh Brester added 15 for Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars then hosted Wakefield Friday night.
The Trojans went up 16-9 on the Jaguars after one. Howells-Dodge won the 2nd quarter 13-8 to make it a 24-22 game at halftime in favor of Wakefield.
The Trojans outscored Howells-Dodge 14-8 in the 3rd quarter to increase their lead to 38-30 at the end of three.
The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 13-10, making up the final score of 48-43 with Wakefield winning.
I thought Howells-Dodge did a really nice job playing the Tigers tough. The Jaguars also didn't play too bad against the Trojans, in my opinion, but had to be disappointed they didn't pick up the win.
Howells-Dodge (15-8) hosts Lutheran High Northeast (13-7) Friday night to close out the regular season.
The two teams also meet at 7:45 p.m. next Tuesday in the C2-6 Sub-District Semifinals at Norfolk Catholic.
The Eagles lost 72-63 at Hartington Cedar Catholic on Saturday.
This first matchup is important for the Jaguars, but the Sub-District game is what really matters.
However Howells-Dodge plays things on Friday has to benefit and help them on Tuesday.
The Jaguars definitely want to win the game with it being their final home game and all, but I'm sure Howells-Dodge has high postseason aspirations.
I'm willing to bet the Jaguars would like another crack and shot at the Trojans.
Howells-Dodge is definitely capable of beating Lutheran High Northeast twice, and knocking off Wakefield in a rematch, in my opinion.
The Jaguars just have to be on top of their game and play their best on Friday and next week.
Howells-Dodge has lost two in a row and three out of their last four so I think a win would help the Jaguars more than a loss heading into Sub-Districts.
It's never easy beating a team twice in a season back-to-back, but Howells-Dodge should still give things their all and try and win on Friday.
Lose Friday and the Jaguars could very well win on Tuesday, but I would still try and win both if I am Howells-Dodge.
A win heading into Sub-Districts is a lot better than a loss, in my opinion.
Jaxson Kant, Ben Gebhart, and Brady Jackson are players to watch out for for the Eagles.
Howells-Dodge has to have a good game plan and get after things defensively.
I feel these two teams are pretty equal so feel both games could truly go either way.
The Jaguars have to come out and play great games both nights, and maximize their potential.
Howells-Dodge has to have the drive and determination to play their best basketball both times out.
North Bend Central hosted Howells-Dodge on 107.9 the Bull Thursday night, with Join Up With Joel contest winner Taya VanLengen of H-D assisting on the call.
Points were hard to come by in the first half, with NBC leading 17-14 at the intermission.
The Jaguars had a strong third quarter, outscoring NBC 15-8, and took a 29-25 lead into the fourth.
The Tigers made 14 free throws in the fourth quarter and were able to create separation late, defeating H-D 49-43.
Erin Prusa had 18 points for H-D.
Good strong effort from the Jaguars. I thought Howells-Dodge did a good job making things close with the Tigers, and playing them closer than they did the first time around.
The Jaguars (8-13) take on Fullerton (13-8) in the D1-5 Sub-District Semifinals on Wednesday at Shelby-Rising City.
The Warriors defeated St. Edward 71-42 at home last Tuesday night.
The game was supposed to be played on Tuesday, but was moved back a day due to other teams in the Sub-District not being able to play at the original scheduled time.
I don't know if playing a day later hurts or benefits Howells-Dodge.
I think it helps them in that they have had an extra day to prepare and get ready, but hurts them from the standpoint of the team is probably anxious to get out there and play.
Also playing a team like Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family without a full day to practice should the two teams meet in the Sub-District Final on Thursday is a tall task, in my opinion.
The Jaguars could definitely beat the Bulldogs if they play as Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family has really been struggling lately, but it wouldn't be easy.
Howells-Dodge just has to be focused on beating Fullerton right now though.
I feel playing a tough schedule really helps and benefits the Jaguars this time of year.
I think Prusa and others will play big for Howells-Dodge, and think the Jaguars will be a tough out.
You can bet Howells-Dodge will bring their best effort and be a tough team to beat Wednesday night.
It's probably different and weird for the Jaguars to be playing on a Wednesday, but it is what it is.
Howells-Dodge has to adjust and adapt, and make the best of things.
This is it for the Jaguars....the season is on the line.
Win and Howells-Dodge lives to see another day. Lose and the season is over.
Jessi Brester also has to have a big game for the Jaguars, and help the seniors prolong their high school careers.
Howells-Dodge can definitely find postseason success as I feel playing a tough schedule really benefits the Jaguars so we will see what happens.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
