Howells-Dodge Boys finish 3rd in East Husker Conference Tournament; Girls drop Consolation game to Pender

The Howells-Dodge Boys took 3rd place in the East Husker Conference Tournament as North Bend Central got out to a fast start and raced past Howells-Dodge 66-32, leading 34-8 at halftime in the Semifinals in North Bend Friday night.

Josh Brester led the Jaguars with 9 points, while Blake Sindelar added 8.

Howells-Dodge met Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the third place game of the Tournament on Saturday at Central Community College in Columbus.

The game was close early, with the Jaguars holding a slim 29-27 advantage at halftime.

Howells-Dodge outscored the Bulldogs 14-9 in the third quarter, and took a 43-36 lead into the fourth.

H/LHF outscored the Jaguars in the fourth quarter, but the Jaguars were able to create some late separation, and would win 53-48.

Sindelar led Howells-Dodge with 19 points, and RJ Bayer added 18.

Howells-Dodge improved to 14-6 with the win.

Great response by the Jaguars on Saturday after a rough game the night before.

Howells-Dodge takes on North Bend Central (17-2) again on the road Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Tigers lost 65-56 to BRLD in the EHC Championship game on Saturday at CCC in Columbus.

I'm sure the Jaguars want to keep things much closer than they did the first time around against North Bend Central.

I thought the win over the Bulldogs was a true character win for the Jaguars.

I think the win can also inspire great things and for Howells-Dodge to do better against the Tigers this time around.

I think based on Saturday's results for both teams this game will be closer than it was the first time around.

This is a key time in the season for the Jaguars with Wakefield on Friday and Lutheran High Northeast next Friday to round out the regular season.

The games against the Trojans and Eagles are big in particular with those two squads being Sub-District opponents.

The Jaguars need to be on top of their game this week and next.

I think Saturday's win gives Howells-Dodge the ability and potential to bounce back from a tough loss quickly, which is what the Jaguars might need to do again.

If Howells-Dodge loses to North Bend Central again they have to forget about it quickly for a second time.

The Wakefield game is huge, and the Jaguars have to be super geared up for that game with the Trojans being a Sub-District opponent and it being a home game for Howells-Dodge.

I feel the Sub-District could very well come down to those two so we'll see who can win the first of potentially two matchups between the two squads.

I don't want to undermine the importance of Thursday's game though.

The Jaguars need to play well and better than they did against the Tigers the first time out.

Howells-Dodge has to go at it hard and be ready to put together two great and outstanding performances this week.

The Howells-Dodge Girls lost 59-57 at Pender to Pender in an East Husker Conference Consolation Game Thursday night.

The Pendragons led 18-15 after one before outscoring the Jaguars 16-9 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-24 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge won the 3rd quarter 17-14 to make it a 48-41 game at the end of three.

The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 16-11.

Erin Prusa had 18 points and 10 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Jessi Brester added 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double of her own. Cassie Pieper added 8 points.

Outstanding effort in the second half by Howells-Dodge, but it wasn't enough to overcome the team's first half play.

The Jaguars (8-12) take on North Bend Central (15-7) on the road Thursday night to close out the regular season and in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

North Bend Central won 53-33 at Tekamah-Herman Tuesday night.

The two teams met in the first round of the Conference Tournament in North Bend with the Tigers winning 56-40.

Like they did against the Pendragons, the Jaguars will need to play much better against North Bend Central the second time around.

This is the final regular season game, the final time Howells-Dodge will take the floor prior to Sub-Districts.

The Jaguars have a tough Sub-District so they need to play well in this one to give themselves some confidence and momentum heading into the postseason.

I think a close game could give Howells-Dodge the belief that they can and the confidence to hang with and beat a team like Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

The Sub-District probably goes through the Bulldogs, and the Jaguars have to come prepared and ready to play come the postseason.

You can bet Howells-Dodge will be a tough out in the postseason, but right now the North Bend Central game is all that matters.

I'm sure these girls want to do a lot better against the Tigers this time around than they did the first time the two teams met.

The Jaguars have to play better on both ends of the floor to make things closer with North Bend Central, in my opinion.

Howells-Dodge has to play the way they did against Pender on Thursday offensively, and try and solve the Tigers' offense.

Prusa has to have a big game and try and slow down Lauren Emanuel, and the same goes for Brester.

It should be a night to remember on the Bull with Taya VanLengen helping out Sports Director Joel Janecek as part of the "Join Up with Joel" Broadcast.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
