Oakland-Craig Boys beat Howells-Dodge and Winnebago; Girls split

The Oakland-Craig Boys won 57-48 at Howells-Dodge on Saturday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before downing Winnebago 70-64 on the road Tuesday night.

The Jaguars came out strong, going up 16-8 after the 1st quarter, and held a 19-8 lead early in the 2nd quarter.

The Knights then battled back and kept chipping away, eventually cutting the deficit to 3 at halftime, which saw Howells-Dodge lead 26-23.

Oakland-Craig eventually came back and took the lead, and found themselves up 38-32 at the end of three after outscoring the Jaguars 15-6 in the 3rd quarter.

The Knights then won the 4th quarter 19-16 to seal the win.

Oakland-Craig had balanced scoring as three players were in double figures, including 17 from Gunnar Ray, 16 from Caden Nelson, and 10 from Jaron Meyer.

Oakland-Craig Head Coach Aaron Meyer on the win. "Those guys they play so well together. And we were able to put a bunch of athletes out on the floor, they got a bunch of athletes. We had to counter with a bunch of athletes. And just a matter of staying patient with the offense. Got to be strong cause they are very very physical. I thought Caden did a lot of really good things. He's a really undersized post, but he knows how to get to the basket and pump fake ya and try to get to the line, and that's what we need out of him."

Winnebago got out to a 20-19 lead at the end of one. The Knights won the 2nd quarter 17-13 to go up 36-33 at halftime.

Winnebago won the 3rd quarter 22-19 to tie the game at 55 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig outscored Winnebago 15-9 in the 4th quarter.

Ray finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds whileNelson had 15 points. Coulter Thiele was also in double figures with 14 while Jaden Harney notched 7.

Two really good wins for the Knights.

Oakland-Craig (4-2) plays host to Wisner-Pilger (2-1) Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Gators won 76-66 at home over Tekamah-Herman Friday night in action that was also aired on the Bull.

The Knights can't stop and slow down now.

Oakland-Craig has to keep the train rolling and mojo going Thursday night.

The Knights have won four in a row and are playing great basketball right now.

I look for Oakland-Craig to play well once again Thursday night and come away with a win.

Wisner-Pilger is a good team and figures to make things close and competitive though.

That and the Gators have had extra time to practice and prep for the Knights being off on Saturday and Tuesday.

Still though I look for Oakland-Craig to simply come out and ball and play off the momentum and adrenaline they've generated from the past week of ball games.

The Knights have a chance to do some real damage here before Christmas.

The Oakland-Craig Girls suffered a 48-29 setback at Howells-Dodge on Saturday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before bouncing back with a 56-50 win at Winnebago Tuesday night.

In the Howells-Dodge game, both teams struggled to get into an offensive rhythm early as both teams went about half the quarter without scoring a point. Howells-Dodge then hit a free throw and led 1-0 for a period of time in the 1st quarter. Eventually though Oakland-Craig's Sadie Nelson got the Knights going, scoring all 7 team points in the quarter to give the Knights a 7-6 advantage after one.

Both teams picked up the scoring in the 2nd quarter as the Jaguars put up 15 points, including 6 from Cassie Pieper, who had all 6 Howells-Dodge first quarter points, and scored 12 of her team-high 13 points in the 1st half.

Nelson hit a couple of baskets for Oakland-Craig in the 2nd quarter, scoring 12 of her game-high 14 points in the frame.

Howells-Dodge led 21-18 at halftime.

The Knights went cold in the 2nd half, only scoring 11 total points in the final 16 minutes, including just 4 in the 3rd quarter.

The Jaguars took advantage, outscoring Oakland-Craig 14-4 in the 3rd quarter to lead 35-22 after three, and 13-7 in the 4th quarter to make up the final score.

The Knights jumped out on Winnebago 17-9 after the 1st quarter, and won the 2nd quarter 11-9 to take a 28-18 lead into the locker room.

Winnebago won the 3rd quarter 14-12 to make it a 40-32 game at the end of three.

Winnebago won the 4th quarter 18-16.

Sydney Guzinski had 22 points to lead the way while Sadie Nelson totaled 18 points and 9 rebounds. Edie Anderson added 10 points. Shea Johnson chipped in 14 rebounds while Laryn Johnson totaled 7.

Great bounce back win for Oakland-Craig Tuesday night.

The Knights (2-3) host Wisner-Pilger (1-2) Thursday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Gators won 52-35 at home over Tekamah-Herman Friday night in action also aired on the Bull.

Both teams come into this game with some momentum on their side.

This game is important for both teams, but in particular for the Knights.

Oakland-Craig started the year 1-3 with some tough losses, but played well Tuesday night.

If the Knights can play like that again on Thursday and get to 3-3 that would be big.

It may not seem big and like a big deal given the expectations this team and program has, but given the injuries and early season adversity they've had to deal with it is.

Oakland-Craig finally got some girls going offensively Tuesday night and need to look to continue that Thursday night.

The Knights have a good chance to win their last three games prior to Christmas, and if Oakland-Craig can head into Christmas at 5-3 I think they will take it.

Thursday night's game is set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. on the Bull.
