In girls high school basketball aired on 107.9 The Bull Tuesday night, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family handed Pender its first loss of the season, as the Bulldogs defeated the Pendragons 58-49.
The Bulldogs hit a couple of early three pointers, as they took a 15-9 first quarter lead.
Pender went 8-10 from the free throw line in the second quarter, and got a key three pointer from Ashley Ostrand, as the Pendragons cut their halftime deficit to 26-24.
H/LHF outscored Pender 14-7 in the third quarter, taking a 40-31 lead into the fourth.
The Bulldogs would extend their lead to double digits, before Pender clawed back to within seven points. However the Bulldogs made free throws down the stretch, going 12-17 from the line in the fourth, and H/LHF was able to preserve the win.
Ashley Ostrand led all scorers with 19 points, and Zoey Lemkuhl added 13.
The Pender girls are now 5-1 and travel to Stanton (1-4) on Saturday.
I look for the Pendragons to bounce back in a big way on Saturday.
Pender suffered a loss to a really good team on Tuesday, and I look for the Pendragons to come out motivated and ready to go on Saturday.
It might be weird playing just the Girls game on Saturday as the Boys game was cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
It shouldn't affect Pender and how they approach things though.
I look for the Pendragons to come out and play well and play their game on Saturday.
Pender has to play a complete game from start to finish.
The Pendragons have to play the way they did in each of their 5 wins so far this season.
Every team loses games, but how Pender bounces back from Tuesday night's loss will go a long ways in deciding how the Pendragons do moving forward.
Pender has to come out and play great, and play a clean game on Saturday.
If the Pendragons do that they should win going away.
