Stanton Boys lose to Wakefield and Wisner-Pilger; Girls fall to Trojans, Gators, and Pender

The Stanton Boys lost 60-40 at Wakefield Friday night before falling 67-46 at Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.

The Trojans doubled up the Mustangs 16-8 in the 1st quarter. Stanton won the 2nd quarter 14-13 to make it a 29-22 game at halftime.

Wakefield outscored the Mustangs 31-18 in the second half.

Parker Krusemark and Adam Arens had 9 points apiece for Stanton.

The Mustangs went up 12-11 at the end of one. The Gators won the 2nd quarter 14-9 to pull ahead 25-21 at halftime.

Wisner-Pilger won the 3rd quarter 20-17 to increase their advantage to 45-38 at the end of three.

The Gators outscored Stanton 22-8 in the 4th quarter.

Strong first halfs for the Mustangs in both games, but things got away from Stanton in the second half both games.

The Mustangs finished their pre-Christmas Holiday Schedule at 1-6.

Stanton is not anywhere near where they want to be I'm sure, but there have been some bright spots for the Mustangs so far this season.

Stanton faces Hartington-Newcastle (1-6) at the Stanton Holiday Tournament Monday night.

The Wildcats lost 60-28 at Wakefield Tuesday night.

Hartington-Newscastle is a lot like the Mustangs in that there have been lots of struggles, but a couple of good games in there as well.

This game is pretty even on paper.

I give Stanton the advantage since they are at home.

It should be a good, close game that comes down to the wire.

On the other side of the bracket is Lutheran High Northeast (4-2) and West Holt (3-4).

Either of those teams figure to be tough for the Mustangs in their second game.

I would think LHNE would win this Holiday Tournament, but you never know.

I look for Stanton to play them in the championship at the very least.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. in Stanton.

The Stanton Girls lost 55-36 at Wakefield Friday night before falling 64-22 at home to Pender on Saturday. The Mustangs then fell 48-45 at Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night.

The Trojans got out to a 16-5 lead after one. Stanton outscored Wakefield 17-8 in the 2nd quarter to make it a 24-22 game at halftime.

Wakefield won the 3rd quarter 13-7 to go up 37-29 at the end of three.

The Trojans outscored Stanton 18-7 in the 4th quarter.

Kinley Polhman had a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds while Sylvia Cunningham notched 9 rebounds.

The Pendragons led the Mustangs 17-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. Pender doubled up Stanton 16-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-17 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons outscored the Mustangs 17-2 in the 3rd quarter to go up 50-19 at the end of three.

Pender outscored Stanton 14-3 in the 4th quarter.

Bridgett Jensen had 7 rebounds for the Mustangs.

Three difficult losses for Stanton.

The Mustangs conclude the pre-Christmas Holiday Schedule with a 1-7 record.

Stanton hasn't had the success they were hoping for so far this year, but there's a lot of season left.

The Mustangs take on Hartington-Newcastle (3-4) in the first round of the Stanton Holiday Tournament on Monday.

The Wildcats lost 74-38 at Wakefield Tuesday night.

Other teams in this tournament are Lutheran High Northeast and West Holt.

I think the championship will be LHNE and Hartington-Newcastle.

I do think Stanton can beat West Holt if they play in the consolation game though.

But Mustangs have to shoot and aim for the championship and can't settle for 3rd place.

Stanton may very well play for 3rd place, but the Mustangs have to strive for 1st.

Game time on Monday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Stanton.
