Stanton Boys and Girls begin seasons 1-2

The Stanton Boys fell 71-28 at Howells-Dodge in Friday night's season opener before winning 67-62 at home over Tekamah-Herman on Saturday. The Mustangs then fell 48-30 at home to West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.

The Jaguars led 19-3 after one before winning the 2nd quarter 14-9 to take a 33-12 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge outscored the Mustangs 25-9 in the 3rd quarter to go up 58-21 at the end of three.

The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 13-7.

The Cadets doubled up the Mustangs 16-8 in the 1st quarter, and tripled up Stanton 9-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-11 lead into the locker room.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 12-10 to cut the lead to 35-23 at the end of three.

West Point-Beemer outscored the Mustangs 13-7 in the 4th quarter.

Good win on Saturday for Stanton, and a better performance on Tuesday against the Cadets than on Friday night against the Jaguars.

The Mustangs (1-2) take on Battle Creek (0-2) on the road Friday night.

The Braves lost 60-33 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday.

Battle Creek has struggled to score so far.

This one could be a low scoring affair.

If it is perhaps the Braves squeak out a close one, but if Stanton can muster some offense then perhaps they will win.

It's hard saying what is going to happen for sure Friday night, but one thing is for sure...Stanton has to be feeling optimistic about their chances.

Battle Creek lost a lot of kids from last year due to graduation so the Mustangs have to rise and step up and take advantage of that.

Stanton has to feel as if it is their time, and must go out there and put a big dent in the scoreboard and come away with a huge win Friday night.

The Stanton Girls lost 64-32 at Howells-Dodge Friday night in the season opener before winning 56-35 at home on Saturday over Tekamah-Herman, and then falling 66-24 at home to West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.

The Jaguars led 19-12 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 12-10 to take a 31-22 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge outscored the Mustangs 12-2 in the 3rd quarter to extend their cushion to 43-24 at the end of three.

The Jaguars outscored Stanton 21-8 in the 4th quarter.

Sylvia Cunningham led the way with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

The Mustangs led 7-6 at the end of the 1st quarter, and outscored the Tigers 17-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 24-13 lead into the locker room.

Stanton won the 3rd quarter 10-7 to go up 34-20 at the end of three.

The Mustangs outscored Tekamah-Herman 22-15 in the 4th quarter.

Kinley Pohlman led the way with 15 points and 14 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Olivia Cunningham added 11 points while Sylvia Cunningham notched 10. Ellie Locke chipped in 7.

West Point-Beemer led the Mustangs 20-5 at the end of the 1st quarter before winning the 2nd quarter 17-12 to go up 37-17 at halftime.

The Cadets outscored Stanton 29-4 in the 3rd quarter to lead 66-21 at the end of three.

The Mustangs blanked West Point-Beemer 3-0 in the 4th quarter.

Sylvia Cunningham had a team-high 9 points.

Good performance from Stanton on Saturday, but a couple of tough setbacks on Friday and Tuesday.

The Mustangs (1-2) take on Battle Creek (0-2) on the road Friday night.

The Bravettes lost 60-51 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday.

Defense has been a struggling point for Battle Creek so far this year.

Stanton has had their issues on defense against strong, quick, and athletic teams as well.

The Bravettes to this point have been a little bit better offensively I would say.

The Mustangs have to go into this one thinking they can take it though.

Battle Creek lost some players from last year, but still have some key pieces on their team.

So the Bravettes might not be as strong as they have been the past few years, but they're still respectable.

Stanton can't care about any of that though, and has to go in there and play hard and play to win come Friday night.

The Mustangs need the same type of performance they got against the Tigers with multiple kids scoring and a defense that's suffocating.

If Stanton gets that same kind of effort Friday night then they could very well be victorious.
