Bancroft-Rosalie Boys open season with a pair of wins; Girls drop opener
The Bancroft-Rosalie Boys picked up two season opening wins over Omaha Christian Academy and Lyons-Decatur Northeast last week.
The Panthers defeated the Eagles 64-46 at home on Friday and the Cougars 61-44 at home on Saturday.
Bancroft-Rosalie tripled up Omaha Christian Academy 30-10 in the first quarter. The Eagles won the second quarter 17-13 to make it a 43-27 game at halftime.
Both teams scored four third quarter points. The Panthers outscored Omaha Christian Academy 17-15 in the fourth quarter.
Mario Aldrich had a team-high 17 points while Aaron Ras added 16. Kenyan Lovejoy, Dayne Wortman, and Jacob Zuhlke totaled 10, 9, and 8 respectively.
Bancroft-Rosalie led Lyons-Decatur Northeast 15-6 at the end of one. The Cougars won the second quarter 12-11 to make it a 26-18 game at halftime.
The Panthers won the second quarter 15-13 to lead 41-31 at the end of three.
Bancroft-Rosalie outscored Lyons-Decatur Northeast 20-13 in the fourth quarter.
Aldrich notched 22 points to lead the team while Wortman added 10. Ras and Lovejoy notched 8 apiece.
The Panthers picked up right where they left off last year. There wasn't any doubt as to what Bancroft-Rosalie needed to do to get done the opening week of the season, and they got it done.
The Panthers (2-0) square off with Emerson-Hubbard (0-2) on the road Tuesday night.
The Pirates lost 64-38 to Guardian Angels Central Catholic and 60-47 to Wisner-Pilger in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic last week to open the season.
Bancroft-Rosalie is certainly off to a favorable start while Emerson-Hubbard appears to still be trying to find their way.
I imagine the Pirates will be pretty fired up with the game being their first home game of the season though.
You can bet Emerson-Hubbard will come ready to play against the Panthers, meaning Bancroft-Rosalie can't take the Pirates lightly.
The Panthers have to get off to a strong start like they did against both opponents last week, and must finish strong the way they did against Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
This is the only game of the week for Bancroft-Rosalie so the Panthers have to make the most of their opportunity, and pick up a win.
Bancroft-Rosalie wants to keep the ball rolling, no doubt. The Panthers have gotten off to too strong a start to falter against Emerson-Hubbard.
I look for Bancroft-Rosalie to move to 3-0 with a convincing win over the Pirates. I also look for multiple players to be in double figures like they were the first two games of the season.
The Panthers are a good team, and if they play up to their capability, should have no trouble with Emerson-Hubbard.
The Bancroft-Rosalie Girls lost a close game to their rivals from Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday, falling 48-44 at home.
The Cougars led 13-12 at the end of one. The Panthers won the second quarter 13-12 to tie the game at 25 at halftime.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast outscored Bancroft-Rosalie 15-9 in the third quarter to lead 40-34 at the end of three.
The Panthers put up 10 fourth quarter points compared to 8 for the Cougars, but it wasn't enough to comeback.
Vicki Gatzmeyer led the way with a team-high 13 points. Paige Peters totaled 11 while Tess Nottleman had 7 points and 9 rebounds.
It was a tough, close, bitter loss to start the season for Bancroft-Rosalie. With that said though, the Panthers made things close and played a good game, in my opinion.
Bancroft-Rosalie (0-1) takes on Emerson-Hubbard (1-1) on the road Tuesday night.
The Pirates defeated Wisner-Pilger 55-31 in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic on Thursday before losing 59-30 to Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Saturday, also in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.
Emerson-Hubbard may be 1-1, but they lost to a tremendously talented team in the Bluejays. The Pirates are a very good team as they showed against the Gators.
The Panthers are going to have to step up their game if they want to compete with and ultimately beat Emerson-Hubbard.
As good as Bancroft-Rosalie played against Lyons-Decatur Northeast, they're going to need to play ten times better against the Pirates.
Nottleman has to be a beast on the boards, and Gatzmeyer and Peters have to score the way they did against the Cougars.
The environment will no doubt be tough and hostile for the Panthers as I'm sure a lot of fans will show up for this game.
Bancroft-Rosalie has to try and do what they can to take the crowd out of the game early, and stake claim to an early lead.
If the Panthers can do that, and hang around until the fourth quarter, they may have a chance to pull off the shocker.
The biggest thing for Bancroft-Rosalie is believing. The Panthers have to believe in themselves and one another that they can go on the road and knock off a tough team.
