Oakland-Craig has played pretty good basketball so far this season. The Knights started off well against Boys Town, but were unable to sustain their play from the first quarter throughout the game.
Oakland-Craig (2-1) hosts Pender (0-2) Friday night.
The Pendragons lost 55-41 at Wakefield last Thursday night before losing 72-65 in triple overtime at home to Tekamah-Herman Friday night.
Pender has proven to be a better team than they were last year, and should have the Knights' attention.
Oakland-Craig can't afford to take the Pendragons lightly. The Knights have to put together a complete game like they did against Clarkson/Leigh on Tuesday.
Oakland-Craig has to perform at a high level on both ends of the floor, and has to be focused.
The Knights can't play uninspired or unprepared against Pender.
With that said, Oakland-Craig should win. The balanced scoring the Knights are getting from Thiele, Seagren, Mace, and Mitchell has really bolstered this team, and allowed them to get off to a respectable start.
Oakland-Craig has a chance to be 4-1 after this weekend, they just have to take care of business against the Pendragons and Howells-Dodge on Saturday.
This team has already proven they are a force to be reckoned with, and have had a good season up to this point.
It's now simply a matter of going out there and continuing to improve on what has happened thus far. The Knights are off to a good, start but they have to keep getting better.
The Oakland-Craig Girls are off to a 3-0 start as the Knights defeated Logan View-Scribner-Snyder 71-23 at home last Thursday, Boys Town 63-21 at home on Saturday, and Clarkson/Leigh 65-29 on the road Tuesday night.
The Knights led the Raiders 19-6 at the end of one. Oakland-Craig outscored Logan View-Scribner-Snyder 23-6 in the second quarter to lead 42-12 at halftime.
The Knights won the third quarter 20-9 to extend their lead to 41 at 62-21 at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig put up 9 fourth quarter points compared to just 2 for the Raiders.
Head Coach Joe Anderson says his team has a lot of weapons. "We're shooting the ball really well in practice. And it's one of those things where our leading scorer might change nightly. It could be 5 or 6 different girls that could lead us in the scoring. And I like that we play really unselfish. Our girls don't care who scores. And that's going to really pay off as we get into the stretch run here."
Dacey Nelson led the way with 17 points. Emma Reinert and Brynn Charling totaled 14 points apiece. Charling added 8 rebounds. Olivia Bures chipped in 8 points.
The Knights jumped on the Cowboys 22-2 after one. Oakland-Craig won the second quarter 14-9 to lead 36-11 at halftime.
The Knights outscored Boys Town 19-6 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 55-17 at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig doubled up the Cowboys 8-4 in the fourth quarter.
Nelson had a game-high 15 points. Charling added 14 while Reinert notched 11.
The Knights got out to a 19-6 lead on the Patriots at the end of one. Oakland-Craig outscored Clarkson/Leigh 20-4 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 29 at 39-10 at halftime.
The Knights won the third quarter 11-6 to make it a 50-16 game at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig scored 15 fourth quarter points compared to 11 for the Patriots.
Charling had a game-high 16 points and 8 rebounds. Bures added 10 points while Melanie Snader and Bailey Charling totaled 9 and 7, respectively.
The Knights are playing at a very high level right now. Not only is Oakland-Craig winning, they are winning big.
The Knights (3-0) square off with Pender (2-0) Friday night at home.
The Pendragons won 72-33 at Wakefield last Thursday, and defeated Tekamah-Herman 75-65 at home Friday night.
Pender is off to a very good start, and is certainly capable of beating Oakland-Craig.
The Knights haven't really been tested yet, and this is their first real test of the season.
We will find out a lot about this Oakland-Craig team and how good they really are.
Kam Anderson, Justice Sorenson, and Hallie Ballinger are really good players for the Pendragons.
Both teams can score the ball really well and that should make for an excellent match up. I would say Pender may be a little ahead of the Knights in scoring points, but the difference should offset with the game being in Oakland.
The Knights have a real chance to make a statement in this game. A win would prove to the conference and other teams in the area that Oakland-Craig is for real.
They already are the real deal, in my opinion, but this game will really test their talent.
It should be a great game and an all out battle between two very good teams. Every possession is important so the Knights have to make the most of their opportunities each time they have the ball.
I think the game could very well be decided by five points or less. I believe these two teams are that close.
