Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys and Girls beat Crofton
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Boys defeated Crofton 52-26 at home Saturday night.
The Bluejays led 12-10 after one. Both teams scored 7 second quarter points, and the halftime score was 19-17 in favor of GACC.
Both teams notched 12 third quarter points, and the score was 31-29 at the end of three in favor of the Bluejays.
GACC tripled up the Warriors 21-7 in the fourth quarter.
Tanner Ortmeier led all scorers with 23 points. Andrew Guenther added 10 while Nolan Plagge and Brandon Hass scored 7 each.
The Bluejays really turned things up in the fourth quarter. GACC came through when it mattered most.
The Bluejays (3-1) are at Clarkson/Leigh (1-4) Tuesday night.
The Patriots lost 51-47 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday.
This should be a win for GACC. The Bluejays still have to come ready to play though. GACC has to keep their eye on the prize.
The Bluejays have a huge matchup with Fremont Bergan on Saturday, but can't be looking forward to that game.
GACC has to D things up, and work their offense in an efficient manner.
The Bluejays have to slow down Colby Becker, Ben McMullin, Kobe Paprocki, Dominik Harper, Tony Bruhn, and Brandon Steffensmeier.
GACC has to get physical, and must play tight, in your face defense.
In other words, the Bluejays' defense has to be suffocating.
Clarkson/Leigh has struggled on defense this season, although they were a little better on Saturday on that end of the floor.
That means Ortmeier, Guenther, Hass, Plagge, and others have to crank up the intensity and tenacity on offense.
GACC needs to turn in a complete performance heading into Saturday's home game against the Knights.
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Girls handed four-time defending Class C-2 state champion Crofton their first loss of the season Saturday night, winning 39-35 at home.
The Bluejays grabbed a 14-10 lead at the end of one. The Warriors won the second quarter 8-6 to make it a 20-18 game at halftime.
GACC outscored Crofton 8-7 in the third quarter to lead 28-25 at the end of three.
The Bluejays notched 11 fourth quarter points compared to 10 for the Warriors.
Maddie Knobbe and Katey Brown totaled 10 points each to pace GACC. Lexis Haase recorded 9.
This was a humongous win for the Bluejays. Anytime you knock off a team like Crofton it's something special.
GACC (4-0) looks to keep things rolling Tuesday night when they take on Clarkson/Leigh (2-3) on the road.
The Patriots lost 43-29 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday.
This should be a relatively easy victory for the Bluejays. I don't see GACC having a letdown whatsoever.
The only way I could see the Bluejays stumbling is if they don't come ready to play, and are still hungover from the win over the Warriors.
Knowing this team, that won't be the case though.
I'm sure Head Coach Jerry Stracke will have his girls focused and ready to play.
GACC has to really get after things defensively like they have all season. The Bluejays also have to be efficient on the offensive end, and need to look to push tempo some, in my opinion.
This might be a good game for GACC to work on some things, and get a lot of girls playing time.
The Bluejays don't want to mess around with or take Clarkson/Leigh lightly, but GACC can probably afford to try and work out some kinks offensively and gain some confidence against the Patriots.
The Bluejays need a big win heading into next Monday's game at Wayne. That figures to be a difficult game for GACC. It's also a game the Bluejays can't be looking ahead to right now either.
GACC's sole focus has to be on Clarkson/Leigh.
