Oakland-Craig Boys and Girls beat Pender, lose to Howells-Dodge

The Oakland-Craig Boys are 1-1 in their last two games, blowing out Pender 78-36 at home Friday night before losing 57-56 at home to Howells-Dodge Saturday night.

The Knights led the Pendragons 26-9 after one. Oakland-Craig doubled up Pender 24-12 in the second quarter to lead 50-21 at halftime.

The Knights outscored the Pendragons 22-10 in the third quarter to go up 72-31 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig won the fourth quarter 6-5.

Carter Thiele and Garrett Seagren each had 20 points. Cole Mitchell added 12 points and 7 rebounds while Cody Mace notched 9 points.

The Knights jumped on the Jaguars 22-10 at the end of one. Oakland-Craig won the second quarter 13-11 to take a 35-21 lead into the locker room.

Howells-Dodge outscored the Knights 22-12 in the third quarter to make it a 47-43 game at the end of three.

The Jaguars totaled 14 fourth quarter points compared to 9 for Oakland-Craig.

Seagren finished with 21 points and 8 rebounds while Thiele totaled 17 points. Mace added 10 points and 9 rebounds.

The Knights played outstanding basketball against Pender, but let one get away against Howells-Dodge.

Oakland-Craig (3-2) takes on Wisner-Pilger (2-2) on the road Thursday night.

The Gators lost 59-55 at Stanton Thursday night before winning 79-33 at Tekamah-Herman Friday night.

Wisner-Pilger appears to be getting better, and took a step forward Friday night while the Knights took a step back with the loss to the Jaguars.

Often times I think it makes a big difference coming off a win, and based on the fact the game is in Wisner and the Gators are coming off a win, one would have to give the advantage to Wisner-Pilger.

The Gators certainly have more momentum coming into this game I would say although it can be argued that Oakland-Craig has had the better season so far.

I think the Knights may have more talent than Wisner-Pilger, but the Gators are just tough.

Wisner-Pilger comes to play every night and you always know you're going to get their best effort.

Oakland-Craig has to play a complete game, and close out the Gators if they have the chance.

The Knights didn't finish in the second half against Howells-Dodge, and so finishing is certainly something Oakland-Craig needs to work on and get better at.

It's going to be a tough game with it being on the road and all, there's no doubt about it. But the Knights are no doubt capable of coming away with the win.

I think Thursday night's game will be a close barn burner.

The Oakland-Craig Girls are 1-1 in their last two games, beating Pender 54-49 at home Friday night before losing 43-35 at home to Howells-Dodge Friday night.

The Knights led the Pendragons 15-12 after one. Oakland-Craig outscored Pender 15-9 in the second quarter to take a 30-21 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons won the second half 28-24.

Dacey Nelson finished with a game-high 18 points while Brynn Charling added 11 points and 11 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Melanie Snader had 8 points while Olivia Bures notched 7.

The Jaguars led Oakland-Craig 12-5 after one. The Knights won the second quarter 12-9 to make it a 21-17 game at halftime.

Howells-Dodge outscored Oakland-Craig 12-5 in the third quarter to lead 33-22 at the end of three.

The Knights recorded 13 fourth quarter points compared to 10 for the Jaguars.

Charling had a team-high 10 points while Nelson totaled 8.

Oakland-Craig played some good basketball so far this season although the Knights met their match against the Jaguars.

Oakland-Craig (4-1) squares off with Wisner-Pilger (3-1) on the road Thursday night.

The Gators defeated Stanton 53-50 on the road in double overtime Thursday night before defeating Tekamah-Herman 45-29 Friday night.

Wisner-Pilger has been a surprise of sorts this season. I'm not sure a lot of people saw their early season success coming.

The same could be said for the Knights too. Oakland-Craig has played some good basketball this year, and is certainly worthy of credit as well.

This should be a good game between two teams who are definitely headed in the right direction.

The edge has to go to the Gators with the game being on their home floor and the fact they are coming off two wins last week.

However, don't count out Oakland-Craig. The Knights have a good number of girls who can score.

So does Wisner-Pilger, which should make for a very entertaining ball game.

Oakland-Craig has to try and slow down Bailey Batenhorst, Maci Batenhorst, Alexis Heller, and Sydney Bradfield.

All four of those players played key scoring roles in the team's win over the Mustangs, and have proven to be forces to be reckoned with.
