Team: Oakland-Craig
Mascot: Knights
Colors: Orange and White
Class: C-2
Conference: East Husker
Head Coach: Aaron Meyer (143-126 career record)
2014-2015 record: 10-15 (lost to Homer in Sub Districts)
Returning Starters: 4
Overview:
The Oakland-Craig Boys look to be successful this year as they return four players with starting experience.
Head Coach Aaron Meyer says who they are. "The
guys we return that have starting experience are Cole Mitchell, Cody
Mace, Carter Thiele, and Garrett Seagren."
Meyer says there are a couple of post players who are key losses. "Cameron
Kiner and Ted Maline both started for us in the post last year."
Meyer says team play has to be good this year. "We
need to play better team basketball, taking high percentage shots,
which means setting up teammates."
When asked what his team's strengths are, Meyer said his squad should be successful in playing tight defense and running the floor. "We
should be good at pressuring the ball and getting up and down in
transition."
When asked what his weaknesses are, Meyer said rebounding. "We
will have to rebound as a team this year, including our guards."
It's going to be very important for the Knights to play together and execute well this season. Everyone has to get along and understand their roles on the team.
I could see Oakland-Craig struggling early given the long football season, but look for the Knights to get better as the season progresses.
Season Outlook:
The Oakland-Craig Boys hope to be better than they were a year ago when the Knights went 10-15.
Meyer doesn't know what to expect at this time. "I’m
not sure at this point. We have some very good guards but need to
develop some experience in the post."
Meyer says a team first attitude is important for his team. "If
our team can put “we” in front of “me”, we’ll be just fine."
Oakland-Craig figures to get challenged by Boys Town, Clarkson/Leigh, Howells-Dodge, Wisner-Pilger, Stanton, Winnebago, Bancroft-Rosalie, and Fremont Bergan.
There are a lot of winnable games on the schedule for the Knights this season, and I look for Oakland-Craig to win their fair share of games.
The Knights open up the season on Thursday at home against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder. That's a contest you can hear on 107.9 the Bull.
