North Bend Central Boys off to 1-1 start; Girls 3-0 so far

The North Bend Central Boys are off to a 1-1 start as they lost 59-46 at Twin River to open the season on Friday before beating David City 70-27 at home on Saturday.

North Bend Central led the Scouts 20-3 at the end of one. The Tigers won the second quarter 12-7 to make it a 32-10 game at halftime.

North Bend Central outscored David City 20-9 in the third quarter to lead 52-19 at the end of three.

The Tigers put up 18 fourth quarter points compared to 8 for the Scouts.

Jake Wieftfield had a team-high 23 points while Jake Cleveringa scored 10. Dylan Emanuel added 7.

North Bend Central played a very good game against David City following the tough loss to the Titans.

The Tigers (1-1) take on West Point-Beemer (0-3) on the road Thursday evening.

The Cadets lost 49-43 to Stanton at home on Tuesday, and have been unable to play a complete game so far this season.

West Point-Beemer is young, and unfortunately for the Cadets, youth may not translate into a win against North Bend Central.

This Tigers' team has a mixture of upperclassmen and underclassmen, and seem to be playing well as a team so far.

North Bend Central has to build off the David City win, and play even better Thursday night against West Point-Beemer.

The game figures to pose its challenges for the Tigers with it being in West Point, but I don't see it phasing North Bend Central whatsoever.

The Tigers played well at home the first time they had a home game, but struggled on the road.

We will find out if North Bend Central can change their fortune on the road and win for once.

I think the Tigers will win, but you can be willing to bet the Cadets will have payback on their minds given what happened in football.

That game just goes to show that anyone can beat anyone on any given night, and that certainly will be the case on Thursday.

The North Bend Central Girls are off to a 3-0 start as the Tigers defeated Twin River 38-30 on the road on Friday, David City 53-41 at home on Saturday, and Schuyler 44-26 at home on Tuesday.

North Bend Central led the Titans 13-6 at the end of one. Both teams scored 4 second quarter points, and the score as 17-10 at halftime in favor of the Tigers.

North Bend Central won the third quarter 8-6 to extend their lead to 9 at 25-16 at the end of three.

Twin River outscored the Tigers 14-13 in the fourth quarter.

North Bend Central led David City 21-5 at the end of one. The Scouts won the second quarter 12-11 to make it a 32-17 game at halftime.

David City outscored the Tigers 11-10 in the third quarter and 13-11 in the fourth quarter to make up the final margin of victory for North Bend Central.

Alexandria Humlicek and Brooke Frederickson led the way with 13 points apiece while Sabrina Adams and Kaitlyn Bjorklund registered 7 each.

The Tigers led the Warriors 16-6 at the end of one. North Bend Central blanked Schuyler 10-0 in the second quarter to make it a 26-6 game at halftime.

The Tigers won the third quarter 11-5 to go up 37-11 at the end of three.

The Warriors outscored North Bend Central 15-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers are off to a great start. I think it's the kind of start North Bend Central envisioned getting off to.

The Tigers (3-0) travel to West Point-Beemer (2-1) on Thursday.

The Cadets lost 41-39 at home to Stanton on Tuesday.

The biggest thing for North Bend Central, in my opinion, is slowing down Amanda Hansen.

The more points Hansen scores, the better off West Point-Beemer is.

The Tigers have to do everything in their power to slow her down.

Doubling and triple teaming her might not be a bad idea, or there's always the box and one.

Slowing her down is easier said than done, but given the way North Bend Central has played defense this year, I wouldn't put it past them to make her earn her points the hard way.

The biggest question mark I have is can the Tigers score enough points to beat the Cadets?

I think the first team to 45 or 50 could win this game.

I think it's going to be a slow paced, grudge match. And that certainly would favor North Bend Central.

If the Tigers can play at their pace and limit West Point-Beemer's transition opportunities, there's no doubt they can win.

It will be interesting to see how North Bend Central fares on Thursday. I think the game has all the makings of being a great one.
