Tekamah-Herman Boys start season 1-1; Girls 2-1 so far
The Tekamah-Herman Boys are off to a 1-1 start as the Tigers lost 79-56 at home to Stanton last Thursday night before beating Pender 72-67 in triple overtime on the road Friday night.
The Mustangs led Tekamah-Herman 29-13 at the end of one. Stanton won the second quarter 19-11 to go up 48-24 at halftime.
The Mustangs outscored the Tigers 25-15 in the third quarter to lead 73-39 at the end of three.
Tekamah-Herman won the fourth quarter 17-6.
Derek Haber had a team-high 17 points. Gus Langley notched 14 while Matt Gross totaled 11.
The Tigers led the Pendragons 15-10 after one. Pender won the second quarter 7-6 to make it a 21-17 game at halftime.
Tekamah-Herman outscored the Pendragons 17-7 in the third quarter to lead 38-24 at the end of three.
Pender tripled up the Tigers 21-7 in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 45 and send the game into overtime.
Both teams scored 10 points in the first overtime, and the game was tied at 55 heading into the second overtime.
Both teams notched 6 points in the second overtime, and the game was nodded up at 61 heading into the third overtime.
Tekamah-Herman outlasted the Pendragons 11-6 in the third overtime period.
Haber led the way with 35 points. Langley chipped in 15 while Bailey Fleischman totaled 9 rebounds.
The Tigers have played decent basketball to this point. Tekamah-Herman did a good job outlasting Pender and coming away with the victory.
The Tigers (1-1) host Wisner-Pilger (1-2) Friday night.
The Gators lost 57-45 to Lutheran High Northeast on Friday in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic before downing Emerson-Hubbard 60-47 on Saturday, also in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.
Wisner-Pilger fell 59-55 to Stanton Thursday night.
Wisner-Pilger is historically a very good team although the Gators appear to be down this year.
I think this will be a pretty evenly matched game.
What helps Tekamah-Herman is the game being on their home floor and the fact the Tigers have had the entire week to prepare for the Gators.
I think this game has the potential to be close and entertaining. If the Pender game is any indication of how Tekamah-Herman's games are going to be this year then fans are in for a real treat.
It will be interesting to see how the Tigers fare. I could see this game going a number of different ways.
Haber, Langley, and Gross have to continue to put up big numbers, and other players have to step up and help.
If Tekamah-Herman could get 4-5 players in double figures it could make a huge difference.
Haber, Langley, and Gross are great players, but they can't necessarily be relied upon to carry the load all season.
I think others are going to have to step up at some point, and perhaps that will be Friday night.
The Tekamah-Herman Girls are off to a good start as the Tigers are 2-1 so far this season.
The Tigers started the season last Thursday night with a 49-34 home win over Stanton.
Tekamah-Herman fell 75-65 to Pender on the road Friday night before defeating Douglas County West 72-16 on the road Tuesday night.
The Tigers went up 17-2 on Stanton at the end of one. Tekamah-Herman won the second quarter 11-4 to make it a 28-6 game at halftime.
The Mustangs outscored the Tigers 13-9 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 37-19 at the end of three.
Stanton won the fourth quarter 15-12.
Hannah Tobin had a team-high 13 points. Allie Snow recorded 10 while Jess Fleischman totaled 8. Sammi Surber added 7.
Pender led the Tigers 15-11 after one. The Pendragons won the second quarter 23-18 to take a 38-29 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers outscored Pender 14-11 in the third quarter to make it a 49-43 game at the end of three.
The Pendragons notched 26 fourth quarter points compared to 22 for Tekamah-Herman.
The Tigers led the Falcons 25-2 after one. Tekamah-Herman outscored Douglas County West 20-7 in the second quarter to lead 45-9 at halftime.
The Tigers won the third quarter 13-2 to go up 58-11 at the end of three.
Tekamah-Herman put up 14 fourth quarter points compared to 5 for the Falcons.
The Tigers are off to a very solid start. Tekamah-Herman appears to be a team to be reckoned with this season.
The Tigers (2-1) square off with Wisner-Pilger (2-1) at home Friday night.
The Gators upset Stanton 53-50 in double overtime on the road Thursday night.
That was a bit of a surprise to me, but it just goes to show that anything can happen.
It also means Tekamah-Herman has to bring their "A" game.
Tobin, Snow, Fleischman, and Surber all need to have big games for the Tigers. Tekamah-Herman needs balanced scoring to come out on top.
This is going to be a difficult game for the Tigers, in my opinion. However, Tekamah-Herman is a tough team and I fully expect them to come out and play well.
The Tigers' offense has been really good this year, and I look for Tekamah-Herman to have another solid offensive outing against the Gators.
Both teams most likely have a good amount of confidence heading into this game so that should make things all the more interesting.
This is a big weekend for the Tigers. Tekamah-Herman has a chance to make a statement with a win over Wisner-Pilger Friday night and a victory over Twin River on Saturday.
I think the Tigers have a very good chance to be 4-1 heading into next week's games if they can take care of business against the Gators and Titans this weekend.
