Wisner-Pilger Boys and Girls begin seasons 1-1

The Wisner-Pilger Boys are off to a 1-1 start as the Gators lost 57-45 to Lutheran High Northeast on Friday in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic before downing Emerson-Hubbard 60-47, also in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.

The Eagles led Wisner-Pilger 18-7 at the end of one. The Gators won the second quarter 13-9 to make it a 27-20 game at halftime.

Lutheran High Northeast outscored Wisner-Pilger 17-2 in the third quarter to lead 44-22 at the end of three.

The Gators scored 23 fourth quarter points compared to 13 for the Eagles.

The Pirates jumped out to a 16-10 lead at the end of one. Wisner-Pilger won the second quarter 17-13 to cut the deficit to 29-27 at halftime.

The Gators outscored Emerson-Hubbard 17-11 in the third quarter to go up 44-40 at the end of three.

Wisner-Pilger notched 16 fourth quarter points compared to 7 for the Pirates.

The Gators are off to a decent start, and appeared to have put things together against Emerson-Hubbard.

Wisner-Pilger (1-1) travels to Stanton (3-0) on Thursday.

The Mustangs won 49-43 at West Point-Beemer on Tuesday.

Stanton has played good basketball so far, but this is a rivalry game and anything can happen.

The Gators have to play their tails off for four quarters and leave it all out on the line.

Wisner-Pilger has to play with heart, toughness, tenacity, grit, passion, fire, and desire.

The Gators have to want it more than the Mustangs, and have to really want to hand Stanton their first loss of the season.

I don't know if Wisner-Pilger will beat the Mustangs, but I think they have the potential to make things interesting.

I honestly see the Gators coming up short in this one, but I've been wrong before.

Anything can happen, and Wisner-Pilger has to play optimistic basketball.

The Gators have to do everything in their power to win, and have to do the little things correctly to come out on top.

Taking care of and pressuring the ball, getting to the free throw line, and making shots are all important for Wisner-Pilger.

The Wisner-Pilger Girls are also off to a 1-1 start as the Gators lost 55-31 to Emerson-Hubbard in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic on Thursday before downing Lutheran High Northeast 49-32 on Saturday, also in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.

The Pirates led 16-2 at the end of one. Emerson-Hubbard won the second quarter 12-9 to extend the lead to 17 at 28-11 at halftime.

The Pirates put up 9 third quarter points compared to 8 for Wisner-Pilger to make it a 37-19 game at the end of three.

Emerson-Hubbard outscored the Gators 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Sydney Bradfield led the way with 11 points while Bailey Batenhorst added 7.

Wisner-Pilger led 13-6 at the end of one over the Eagles. Lutheran High Northeast won the second quarter 11-10 to cut the deficit to 6 at 23-17 at halftime.

The Gators blanked the Eagles 16-0 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 22 at 39-17 at the end of three.

Lutheran High Northeast outscored Wisner-Pilger 15-10 in the fourth quarter.

The Gators did a nice job rebounding on Saturday. It would have been easy for Wisner-Pilger to play poorly following Thursday's loss, but they didn't let it happen. The Gators did something about their play and took care of business on Saturday.

Wisner-Pilger (1-1) squares off with Stanton (1-2) on the road Thursday.

The Mustangs won 41-39 at West Point-Beemer on Tuesday.

Stanton appears to have figured some things out following two losses the first weekend of the season, and that could spell doom for the Gators.

It might not though. It's really going to depend on how each team plays.

I'm really not sure how the game is going to go. I could see it going a number of different ways.

This is a big game for both teams. It's a rivalry game, and the winner will no doubt be feeling jubilant after the win.

The loser will probably have a sore taste in their mouth, which makes things like execution, taking care of and pressuring the ball, shooting free throws, and shooting from the field well all the more important.

Wisner-Pilger is definitely capable of winning, but it won't be easy. The Gators are going to have to play a very good game to come out on top, in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see how the game goes.

I don't know if the Gators can afford to have any real bad quarters or a bad half. It has to be a flawless performance from Wisner-Pilger in my mind.
