West Point-Beemer Boys fall to North Bend Central; Girls win

The West Point-Beemer Boys lost 49-46 at home to North Bend Central Thursday night.

The Cadets led 10-2 after one. The Tigers won the second quarter 17-11 to cut the deficit to 2 at 21-19 at halftime.

North Bend Central outscored West Point-Beemer 13-7 in the third quarter to go ahead 32-28 at the end of three.

The Cadets notched 18 fourth quarter points compared to 17 for the Tigers.

Chase Streeter finished with a team-high 11 points. Adam Niewohner totaled 9 points while Austin Streeter added 8 points and 9 rebounds.

West Point-Beemer got ahead of North Bend Central, but like their first three games, was unable to play a complete game and get the job done.

The Cadets (0-4) look to change their fortune Tuesday night when they take on Howells-Dodge (1-4) on the road.

The Jaguars defeated Oakland-Craig 57-56 on the road Saturday night.

Howells-Dodge, like West Point-Beemer, has struggled to start the season. However, the Jaguars have played a difficult schedule and appear to have things headed in the right direction.

The Cadets haven't had the easiest schedule either, and the game against Howells-Dodge appears to be another difficult matchup for West Point-Beemer.

The Cadets simply have to rise up and rise above all the odds stacked against them.

West Point-Beemer will no doubt get a hungry and very determined Jaguars' team, but the Cadets have a lot of pride and fight in them too I'm sure, and need to show it Tuesday night.

Austin and Chase Streeter, Niewohner, Tate Toelle, and others need to step up and score plus defend well for West Point-Beemer.

The Cadets have to get things done on both ends of the floor. West Point-Beemer has played good defense the last two games, the offense just hasn't been there.

That simply means things have to be clicking on all cylinders and on both ends of the floor for the Cadets. Things need to come together for West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.

The Cadets could really use a win heading into the Holiday Break.

The West Point-Beemer Girls rebounded from Tuesday's setback to Stanton by defeating North Bend Central 48-41 at home Thursday night.

The Cadets jumped all over the Tigers, leading 19-2 after one. West Point-Beemer won the second quarter 7-6 to take a 26-8 lead into the locker room.

North Bend Central doubled up the Cadets 14-7 in the third quarter to make it a 33-22 game at the end of three.

The Tigers notched 19 fourth quarter points compared to 15 for West Point-Beemer.

Amanda Hansen led the way with 23 points. McKenzie Bruce added 12 points and 7 rebounds while Taylor Weddle notched 8 points. Jade Duhsmann added 7 rebounds.

The Cadets appeared to have come out very determined given the loss to the Mustangs. West Point-Beemer played a great first quarter, and the lead proved to bee too much for North Bend Central to overcome.

The Cadets (3-1) battle Howells-Dodge (4-1) on the road Tuesday night.

The Jaguars knocked off Oakland-Craig 43-35 on the road Saturday night.

Howells-Dodge has played very good basketball so far this season, and West Point-Beemer is going to have to be on top of their game to knock off a very hungry and determined Jaguars' squad.

Sam Brester is the real deal, and the Cadets are going to have to slow her down if they want to get the job done.

Hansen, Bruce, and Weddle also have to have big games for West Point-Beemer.

Those three, along with Makenna Weddle and Duhsmann, have been the Cadets' most consistent performers this season.

West Point-Beemer has to come out with the same fire, passion, and intensity they played with to start the game against North Bend Central. The only difference is the Cadets need to keep up that kind of play for four quarters.

Howells-Dodge is a good team, and must have West Point-Beemer's attention.

The Cadets have to execute at a high level, play hard, play smart, and most importantly, have fun.

A win heading into the Wayne Holiday Tournament would be nice. A loss would not be a good thing for West Point-Beemer. The Cadets don't want to be 3-2 heading into the Holiday Break.

This is basically a must win for West Point-Beemer to keep their season headed in the right direction.
