North Bend Central Boys beat West Point-Beemer and Stanton; Girls lose to Cadets, beat Mustangs
The North Bend Central Boys have played impressive basketball as of late, winning 49-46 at West Point-Beemer Thursday night before downing Stanton 59-39 at home Tuesday night.
The Cadets led 10-2 after one. The Tigers won the second quarter 17-11 to cut the deficit to 2 at 21-19 at halftime.
North Bend Central outscored West Point-Beemer 13-7 in the third quarter to go ahead 32-28 at the end of three.
The Cadets notched 18 fourth quarter points compared to 17 for the Tigers.
North Bend Central took an 11-8 lead over the Mustangs at the end of one. The Tigers won the second quarter 17-11 to take a 28-19 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central outscored Stanton 15-11 in the third quarter to make it a 43-30 game at the end of three.
The Tigers notched 16 fourth quarter points compared to 9 for the Mustangs.
Jake Wieftfeld notched 25 points to lead North Bend Central. Jake Cleveringa added 11 while Matt Ortmeier registered 7.
The Tigers really stepped up their play from last week and the week before. I would say the Stanton game is the best game North Bend Central has played all year.
The Tigers (3-1) host Pender (0-3) Friday night.
The Pendragons lost 78-36 at Oakland-Craig last time out.
Pender played decent in their first two games of the season so the Pendragons certainly can't be taken lightly.
North Bend Central needs to come out and dominate from start to finish just like they did against the Mustangs.
The Tigers shouldn't really change much from what they did Tuesday night.
North Bend Central has been a pretty strong defensive team this year, and that has to continue Friday night.
The Tigers' offense has been pretty respectable as well, and I look for North Bend Central to have their biggest scoring output of the season Friday night.
The Tigers have a very good chance to be 5-1 heading into the Holiday Tournament.
That would be quite a feat for this team, who has come on nicely as of late.
North Bend Central needs to keep the momentum going, and has to continue to play hard and stay focused.
The Tigers can't be satisfied or complacent with their progress. North Bend Central has to remain hungry, and keep wanting more.
The Tigers have to continue to get better every time they take the court.
The North Bend Central Girls are 1-1 in their last two games, losing 48-41 at West Point-Beemer Thursday night before downing Stanton 56-35 at home Tuesday night.
The Cadets jumped all over the Tigers, leading 19-2 after one. West Point-Beemer won the second quarter 7-6 to take a 26-8 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central doubled up the Cadets 14-7 in the third quarter to make it a 33-22 game at the end of three.
The Tigers notched 19 fourth quarter points compared to 15 for West Point-Beemer.
The Mustangs led North Bend Central 11-7 after one. The Tigers outscored Stanton 14-5 in the second quarter to take a 21-16 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central won the third quarter 24-10 to go up 45-26 at the end of three.
The Tigers put up 11 fourth quarter points compared to 9 for the Mustangs.
North Bend Central did a great job bouncing back and blowing out Stanton after losing to the Cadets. I think the Tigers have shown they are the real deal this season.
North Bend Central (4-1) hosts Pender (3-1) Friday night.
The Pendragons defeated Bancroft-Rosalie 50-39 on Saturday after losing 54-49 at Oakland-Craig Friday night.
Pender has been good so far this year, and the Tigers have to watch out for Justice Sorenson, Hallie Ballinger, Kam Anderson, Makrae Kelly, Rylee Lehmkuhl, Cecelie Jacobsen, and Amber English.
The Pendragons can light it up, which means North Bend Central has to be on their toes defensively.
The Tigers also need to be sharp offensively like they were against Stanton.
A win would give North Bend Central a lot of momentum heading into the Holiday Tournament.
A 5-1 record before the five-day moratorium would be a big deal for this team given the fact they went 12-12 a year ago.
4-2 wouldn't be bad either, but the Tigers need to take care of business against Pender.
North Bend Central is a C-1 school and the Pendragons are D-1. This is not a team the Tigers should lose to.
Pender is good, but these are the type of games you don't want to lose if you are North Bend Central.
A loss to the Pendragons would look bad so the Tigers simply have to step things up and play their tails off and let their play take care of the winning.
