Pender Boys lose to Oakland-Craig; Girls lose to Knights, beat Bancroft-Rosalie

The Pender Boys fell 78-36 at Oakland-Craig Friday night.

The Knights led the Pendragons 26-9 after one. Oakland-Craig doubled up Pender 24-12 in the second quarter to lead 50-21 at halftime.

The Knights outscored the Pendragons 22-10 in the third quarter to go up 72-31 at the end of three.

Oakland-Craig won the fourth quarter 6-5.

It was a difficult game for Pender. I thought the Pendragons would make things closer than they did, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Pender (0-3) hosts Clarkson/Leigh (1-4) Thursday night.

The Patriots lost 51-47 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday.

The Patriots haven't had the hardest time scoring this year, they just haven't been able to slow anybody down.

Pender's had their own issues on offense and defense too though.

The Pendragons certainly need to play a lot better than they have to start the season if they want to compete, hang with, and ultimately beat Clarkson/Leigh.

Pender has to come out and play with tenacity, toughness, fire, heart, grit, and determination.

The Pendragons have to give 100% effort on everything they do.

The biggest thing for Pender is believing and playing with a positive attitude.

There can't be any quit or pouting from this team whatsoever.

The Pendragons have to execute at a high level, and do the small things well.

Things like getting to the free throw line, being in position to shoot, boxing out, and making free throws are all important for Pender.

This team has a lot of ground to make up, but I think the Pendragons are capable of improving and playing better from here on out.

We will find out what Pender is made of Thursday night.

Catch the game on 107.9 the Bull following the Girls game at 6:15.

The Pender Girls went 1-1 last week, losing 54-49 at Oakland-Craig Friday night before beating Bancroft-Rosalie 50-39 at home on Saturday.

The Knights led the Pendragons 15-12 after one. Oakland-Craig outscored Pender 15-9 in the second quarter to take a 30-21 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons won the second half 28-24.

Justice Sorenson had a team-high 14 points. Cecelie Jacobsen added 9 points and 7 rebounds while Hallie Ballinger totaled 8 points and 7 rebounds. Kam Anderson notched 7 points.

Bancroft-Rosalie led the Pendragons 13-10 after one. Pender won the second quarter 12-7 to take a 22-20 lead into the locker room.

The Pendragons outscored the Panthers 16-6 in the third quarter to go up 38-26 at the end of three.

Bancroft-Rosalie put up 13 fourth quarter points compared to 12 for Pender.

The Pendragons did a nice job picking up the win over the Panthers after suffering a tough defeat the night before.

Pender (3-1) battles Clarkson/Leigh at home Thursday night.

The Patriots lost 43-29 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday.

Clarkson/Leigh was taking on Guardian Angels Central Catholic Tuesday night.

Regardless of how the Patriots fared against the Bluejays, the Pendragons should have a good chance to win Thursday night.

Sorenson, Ballinger, Jacobsen, and Anderson all have to play well for Pender as does Rylee Lehmkuhl and Makrae Kelly.

It has to be a complete team effort from Pender.

A win would sort of set the tone for the rest of the week with tough games against North Bend Central and Stanton Friday night and Saturday.

The last thing the Pendragons can afford though is to be looking ahead.

Pender has to be focused on Clarkson/Leigh, and determined to beat the Patriots.

The Pendragons need to build a big lead and maintain it so bench players can get some playing time and starters and those first off the bench can rest.

Pender needs to save themselves for Friday and Saturday, and so the last thing the Pendragons want Thursday night is a dog fight.

I don't expect things to be easy for Pender, but I look for the Pendragons to pick up their fourth win of the season.

Thursday night's game will be carried on 107.9 the Bull. Tip-off is set for 6:15.
