Stanton Boys 3-0, Girls 1-2
The Stanton Boys are off to an excellent start as the Mustangs are 3-0 after picking up victories over Tekamah-Herman, Howells-Dodge, and West Point-Beemer.
Stanton beat the Tigers 79-56 on the road Thursday, the Jaguars 54-40 at home on Friday, and the Cadets 49-43 on the road Tuesday.
The Mustangs led Tekamah-Herman 29-13 at the end of one. Stanton won the second quarter 19-11 to go up 48-24 at halftime.
The Mustangs outscored the Tigers 25-15 in the third quarter to lead 73-39 at the end of three.
Tekamah-Herman won the fourth quarter 17-6.
Myles Nickolite led all players with 22 points and had 7 rebounds. Kyle Sperl notched 19 points while Trey Erbst had 11. Brook Klinetobe added 9. Hunter Stallbaum totaled 7 rebounds.
Stanton led Howells-Dodge 15-10 at the end of one. The Mustangs won the second quarter 24-10 to make it a 39-20 lead at halftime.
The Jaguars outscored Stanton 10-4 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 43-30 at the end of three.
The Mustangs won the fourth quarter 11-10.
Sperl had a game-high 22 points. Nickolite chipped in 13 while Klinetobe registered 9.
The Mustangs led 15-10 at the end of one over West Point-Beemer. The Cadets won the second quarter 17-12 to tie the game at 27 at halftime.
Stanton outscored West Point-Beemer 19-8 in the third quarter to go up 46-35 at the end of three.
The Cadets notched 8 fourth quarter points while the Mustangs scored 3.
Stanton has played well so far this season. The Mustangs didn't have too difficult of a challenge in their first two games of the season, but still found ways to win big. Tuesday's game wasn't pretty, but it was a win for Stanton.
The Mustangs (3-0) take on Wisner-Pilger (1-1) at home on Thursday.
The Gators lost 57-45 to Lutheran High Northeast in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic on Friday before beating Emerson-Hubbard 60-47 on Saturday, also in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.
Wisner-Pilger isn't a bad team, but Stanton should be able to win fairly easily.
It's a rivalry game, and anything can happen, but I don't see the Mustangs getting denied at home.
Stanton has played too well this season to lose to the Gators.
As long as the Mustangs play up to their potential I don't think there's any doubt they'll win.
Sperl, Nickolite, and Klinetobe have been absolute studs for Stanton this season, and if they continue to score the ball the way they have, I don't think there's any way the Mustangs lose.
Wisner-Pilger is certainly capable of making the game interesting, but I don't see the Gators having enough in the tank to hang with Stanton.
Both teams have great tradition, and it should be a good coaching matchup between father and son.
However, I just think the Mustangs have too much firepower going right now, and are playing too well to lose.
I could be wrong, but I see Stanton improving to 4-0 on the season. This team is playing good basketball to start, and I look for their hot play to continue on Thursday.

The Stanton Girls got off to a slow start last week, losing 49-34 at Tekamah-Herman on Thursday, and 44-28 at home to Howells-Dodge on Friday.
However, the Mustangs picked up a much needed 41-39 win over West Point-Beemer on the road Tuesday.
The Tigers went up 17-2 on Stanton at the end of one. Tekamah-Herman won the second quarter 11-4 to make it a 28-6 game at halftime.
The Mustangs outscored the Tigers 13-9 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 37-19 at the end of three.
Stanton won the fourth quarter 15-12.
MacKenzie Brandl had 14 points and 7 rebounds while Hiliary Huss added 8 points. Leah Arens notched 7.
The Mustangs got out to a 12-11 lead on the Jaguars at the end of one. Howells-Dodge doubled up Stanton 16-8 in the second quarter to lead 27-20 at halftime.
The Jaguars won the third quarter 7-5 to lead 34-25 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge outscored the Mustangs 10-3 in the fourth quarter.
Huss paced Stanton with 8 points.
The Mustangs led West Point-Beemer 23-18 at halftime.
The Cadets won the third quarter 14-8 to go up 32-31 at the end of three.
Stanton outscored West Point-Beemer 10-7 in the fourth quarter.
Brandl notched a team-high 12 points and had 7 rebounds while Jessie Brandl had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Arens totaled 9 points while Huss recorded 7.
The Mustangs played a great game against the Cadets. I think it's safe to say Stanton figured some things out following their two losses.
The Mustangs (1-2) host Wisner-Pilger (1-1) on Thursday.
The Gators lost 55-31 to Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic, but beat Lutheran High Northeast on Saturday, also in the Northeast Nebraska Tip-Off Classic.
Wisner-Pilger is a decent team, but if Stanton plays the way they did against West Point-Beemer, I think they will win.
However, if the Mustangs play the way they did last week, they could easily lose.
It's hard saying which Stanton team is going to show up. I'm leaning towards saying the Mustangs will be 2-2 after Thursday, but you never know with the way things go sometimes.
MacKenzie Brandl, Jessie Brandl, Huss, Arens, and others all have to step up and play well for Stanton.
The Mustangs have had consistent scoring so far this season, and that has to continue if Stanton wants to win again on Thursday.
The Mustangs are aided by the fact they are at home, and I look for Stanton to use that to their advantage.
The Mustangs lost their home opener though so a win is no guarantee by any means.
Stanton has to want it more than the Gators, and has to outhustle, outplay, and outwork them.
Thursday's game will be carried on 107.9 the Bull. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The game can also be heard online at kticradio.com.
