Clarkson/Leigh Boys and Girls lose to Lyons-Decatur Northeast and Guardian Angels Central Catholic
The Clarkson/Leigh Boys have lost two close games the last two times out, falling 51-47 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday and 61-50 at home to Guardian Angels Central Catholic Tuesday night.
The Cougars led the Patriots 12-9 after one. Clarkson/Leigh won the second quarter 11-10 to make it a 22-20 game at halftime.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast outscored the Patriots 16-14 in the third quarter to lead 38-34 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 13 fourth quarter points.
Colby Becker notched a team-high 13 points. Ben McMullin added 12 while Tony Bruhn and Dominik Harper totaled 8 apiece. Harper chipped in 7 rebounds as well.
The Bluejays went up 18-15 at the end of one against Clarkson/Leigh. The Patriots won the second quarter 14-11 to tie the game at 29 at halftime.
Clarkson/Leigh outscored GACC 16-13 in the third quarter to take a 45-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Bluejays cranked up the intensity in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 fourth quarter points to the Patriots' 5.
McMullin and Kobe Paprocki scored 12 points apiece to lead the way. Harper notched 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Clarkson/Leigh played well for three quarters against GACC and came close to beating them and Lyons-Decatur Northeast. It's just the Patriots' inability to finish games that is proving to be costly right now.
Clarkson/Leigh (1-5) travels to Pender (0-3) Thursday night to take on the Pendragons.
Pender lost 78-36 at Oakland-Craig Friday night, their biggest defeat of the season so far.
The Pendragons may be a little better than they were last year so the Patriots definitely have to be ready to play.
Paprocki, McMullin, Bruhn, Harper, and Becker all have to go off the way they are capable of.
Clarkson/Leigh needs to be good offensively and even more solid defensively.
Things need to come together for the Patriots in this game. This is a game Clarkson/Leigh can ill afford to lose.
The last thing the Patriots can afford is to be distraught and down on themselves about the loss to the Bluejays.
Clarkson/Leigh let one get away against a good team Tuesday night, but has to simply forget about it and refocus themselves on Pender.
A win is much needed with the Patriots facing a surging Howells-Dodge team and Bancroft-Rosalie before the Holiday Tournament.
Clarkson/Leigh's next three games are on the road so the Patriots have to be road warriors and step up their game if they want to come out on top.

The Clarkson/Leigh Girls lost to a pair of rock solid teams Saturday and Tuesday night, falling 43-28 at Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday and 67-20 at home to Guardian Angels Central Catholic Tuesday night.
The Cougars jumped on the Patriots 14-2 after one. Clarkson/Leigh won the second quarter 9-6 to make it a 20-11 game at halftime.

The Cougars notched 14 fourth quarter points compared to 10 for Clarkson/Leigh.

The Bluejays led the Patriots 24-4 after one. GACC outscored Clarkson/Leigh 19-3 in the second quarter to take a 43-7 lead into the locker room.
The Bluejays won the third quarter 13-11 to make it a 56-18 game at the end of three.
GACC notched 11 fourth quarter points compared to just 2 for the Patriots.
Clarkson/Leigh really had a tough go of things against the Bluejays. Lyons-Decatur Northeast proved to be a difficult opponent as well.
The Patriots (2-4) travel to Pender (3-1) Thursday night.
The Pendragons defeated Bancroft-Rosalie 50-39 at home on Saturday after losing 54-49 at Oakland-Craig Friday night.
Pender is a good, and has a number of girls who can score in Justice Sorenson, Hallie Ballinger, Cecelie Jacobsen, Kam Anderson, Rylee Lehmkuhl, Amber English, and Makrae Kelly. All are capable of going off on any given night.
Clarkson/Leigh has to be tough and stout defensively, and really needs to get their offense going as well.
The Patriots have had a really difficult time scoring, and need to start making more shots and get to the free throw line more and convert easy shots from the line.
Handling pressure and taking care of the ball is also important for Clarkson/Leigh.
The Patriots have struggled some on the defensive end as well.
Things like pressuring the ball, boxing out, and contesting shots are super critical for this team.
The Pendragons are a team that can really score the ball so Clarkson/Leigh has to really focus in defensively and create turnovers into easy transition opportunities.
The Patriots have to play at their pace and not let Pender run too much.
Clarkson/Leigh has to play hard, smart, aggressive, and determined.
Thursday's game is set to tip-off at 6:15 p.m. It can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.
